Prayer is What We Need

This past week I wrote about Organizing your Prayer TimePrayer is such an important part of our relationship with Jesus.

I don’t take prayer lightly. I remember how much prayer meant to our family when Mom was diagnosed with cancer and then passed away. We could not have made it without prayer!

It seems my list of people to pray for is always growing. I have friends and family who are hurting. So many that are touched by cancer. (Have I said lately how much I hate cancer!) My heart hurts for them. I want to take away their pain and yet I know that’s not possible.

Many have family problems. Moms and Dads who can’t get along and they believe divorce is the answer. Children who are straying and making poor decisions.

I sometimes ask God, “Why?” “Why do we have to hurt? Why do we have to suffer?”

I’m reminded of 2 Corinthians 4:27,” For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

And Romans 8:18, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

Although our suffering may seem to last and last, it is only for a short time. Heaven is just around the corner!!

Today if you are weary from life, please know that Jesus cares. Keep praying and believing!

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5

Do you have something to share about prayer? Are you spending time with Him?

  1. Prayer is so very important. I can’t imagine not having our wonderful Lord and His Word to go to for comfort. My site encourages with Scripture and includes a Prayer Room. My own cancer story is included. I have been truly blessed!

  2. Woo Hoo!!!!

I am thrilled to be the recipient of your give away! Here’s the best part… I just bought a Bible study guide and now I will have a beautiful place to plan and journal my walk. Thank you so much!

  3. I think I may have already asked you this–Have you read PRAYER: Finding the Heart’s True Home by Richard J. Foster? Oh, my goodness. . . what a book. The title is so important–our hearts are truly at home when we’re in conversation and communion with God. 🙂

  4. I love the Scripture you used, they really say it all. I find myself asking many of the same questions you posed.

This stirred up a couple things in me. First, at dinnertime normally our baby faced 7 year old boy likes to pray. It’s a simple prayer “Dear Jesus, thank you for our meal, in Jesus’ name, Amen”. Sometimes he adds something like thank you for letting me have outdoor recess today, or whatever is on his mind. What never ceases to amaze me is as soon as he opens his mouth I feel the Holy Spirit alive in me like never before. If there was a barometer it would be reading it off the charts.

Second, through a friend who would read blessings over people, I started asking and praying that my spirit would be fully present to participate in and receive from the reading of the Word and my time in prayer. This has been a remarkable transformation for me.

Both of these have been on my heart and are truly a blessing to me. Thanks so much for the opportunity to share!

Hope you have a great weekend,
    Erin
