Wanda’s Kitchen….Blackberry Crisp

Wanda’s Kitchen is a weekly post dedicated to my Mom. She was a contibuting foods editor to our local newsapaper and to HomeLife Magazine. Mom went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2009.

Good Friday Morning!!

The sun is shining (finally) and we have a busy weekend planned.

I love this time of year and love having friends and family over for cookouts.

I found this recipe several years ago in a church cookbook,

and it’s become a family favorite.

We make this all the time in the spring and summer

for a delicious dessert and serve it with ice cream.

Blackberry Crisp

1 quart fresh blackberries

2/3 cup flour

1/2 cup sugar

1 stick butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup dry oats

Put berries in baking dish and sprinkle with sugar. I use an 11×7 dish.

Mix together oats, flour, brown sugar and butter.

Crumble over berries. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1/2 hour.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Food for thought

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.

Watch your words, for they become actions.

Watch your actions, for they become habits.

Watch your habits, for they become character.

Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

  1. This kind of dish reminds me of my mom. But I’ll definitely try it with the oats. Sounds yummy. Thanks for the food for thought.
