Baby Update and I Need Your Help!

Well, Courtney is at 33 weeks! Yeah!

I can hardly wait to hold that little guy.

I’m afraid I might kiss him to death!

I can already smell that new baby smell….it’s a heaven scent!

Courtney and Chris are headed to her doctor’s appointment this morning

to check how everything is moving along.

We are busy finishing her nursery and my nursery

Yes, Colt Allen will have a nursery at my house too and I’ll share pictures soon.

I do have a favor I’d like to ask you all……….

I’ve been thinking of a name I want Colt Allen to call me.

I know, some people say he’ll call me whatever he wants,

but I’m going to try to have a name picked out.

I have one I like but I thought you might have one

out there that I haven’t thought of yet.

Please don’t say Granny….if I get called that one more time I think I’ll scream! 🙂

Also I can’t use Nana because that was my Mom’s name.

We talk about Nana all the time so that is hers and always will be!

So………got any ideas???

  1. Hi, Cyndi – I like the idea of playing off of your first name, so “Cee-Cee” or “CiCi” sounds fun and fresh, and easy to learn when first speaking. I am Lori Jo, so I hope to be “JoJo” some day, way in the future. Congratulations, very exciting!

  2. When my first Grand pronounced Grandma, it somehow came out “Debba” (Deb-bah) so now all 5 of them call me “Debba”!!!!!

  3. I like Go Go, or Gigi. My girlfriend and I were the same age – 46, when her daughter had a baby. We were both mortified at the though of the little guy calling her Granny. However, after thinking about it, her last name is Go Go – and for some reason, I like that!

That was 2 years ago, but what he decided to call her is Mama.

But I also like Gigi too. 🙂

  4. I really like Nonie, can you imagine being called that? I’m new to your blog, now i must follow so I cam meet your new grandson.I’m Kim Smith from Barbados.

  5. Hey, Cyndi. I’m out of town, so I’m a little late, but here’s my two cents worth! I’m Granna. It is the name I picked out, but, it took a while for it to get to that. I was called Granga for a while ( still comes out that way sometimes). Granga would have been ok because of Gail being my name, but I just love Granna. I think you will be called Cici (which is sweet), but don’t be surprised if it takes on a little different pronunciation at first!

  6. Ooops, I didn’t mean you were kind of cute (you are MORE than kinda cute, you are adorable!) but the name Gigi was what I was referring too. Just realized how weird that looked. LOL!!!!

  7. What a beautiful soon to be Mama! My brother and sister-in-law are expecting and they’ve picked the name Colton. Colt Allen is adorable (my last name is Allen!). I think you may look like a Gigi. Kind of cute, still young and spunky. 🙂

  8. I like Cici, it’s just so you and the niece and nephews already call you that. It also sounds young and is easy to say. I changed my grandmother name about 5 times before we settled on Mimi and now it just seems like it was meant to be. You will be a great grandmother no matter what you are called and I am so happy for all of you! Love, Aunt Pat

  9. This is fun & interesting… I just read all of the suggestions, as I am about to be a grandmother for the 1st time… I too, really want to be called something other than grandma.. My friends are called Nana & Honey & Mimi…
Can’t wait to hear what you decide…. I have a few months to ponder.. 🙂

  10. My kids call my mom Baba (Ukrainian for grandmother) and my mil GiGi. I know someone call Be-be, Mimi and another is Honey! 🙂

  11. I heard one recently that I tucked away for the future, but I’m happy to share – – Mim. ‘Cause I’m with you – – I don’t EVER want to be called Granny or any version thereof. Hope you find one that suits you and Colt.

  12. I love “gammi”! It is a younger version of granny or gramma which you dont look like! I think that would fit you, Your hubby could be Poppi…Gammi & Poppie but you will luv whatever he calls you!

  13. Well, my Grandma has become Grammy which I like better. Had a friend who was called Nony which is cute and my SIL is Mam (think that’s how she spells it). Whatever it is, it sounds like music to one’s ear – grandkids are such a gift from God. Blessings!

  14. I did not read all the comments to see if this one was shared. My boys call their grandmother “mommee”. Mommee’ is common to south Louisiana. It is pronounced Mom-me. You just don’t hear this one every day. 🙂 Anyway, you lotion & powder him up – and enjoy the kisses!

  15. My kids called my Mother in law Grammy.
I know someone whose granddaughter called her sweet pea
Whatever you choose will be like music to your ears.

  16. Who knows if what you decide will happen. My mom was grandma then grandi and now they call her Noodle!

  17. Honey, I totally understand your desire to come up with a “suggested” name. You’re going to be an awesome grandmother, but you’re very, very young. . . I’m older than you are, and I wouldn’t want to be “Granny”!

I like “Mimi” (what my boys call my mother-in-law, although for you “Cici” (how would you spell that? CeeCee?) might be better. Or “Gigi.”

You know what else I like? What I taught my boys to call my mother: “Grandmother.” Somehow that more “formal” name always appealed to me. I don’t like “Mammaw” and names like that.

And guess what my boys called my grandmother, their great-grandmother? They just called her “Great”!

  18. My mom is “Omie” and her husband is “Opie” that is “Grammy” and “Grampy” in German. Or there is the Dutch version of “Grandmother” and “Grandfather” which is “Oma” and “Opa.” My Grammy is GG to my son- short for “great-granma.” Or there is Gigi or Nona.

  19. Cyndi, Courtney is just too cute and I love how excited you are. My friend prefers to go by Grammy. I also like Oma. I know whatever name you are called, it will be filled with love. Many blessings!

  20. I am absolutely proud to be called grandma, it is an honor and a blessing to be ‘grandma’. The other name my hubby calls me at times is Gma (GeeMa). I really don’t like the other ‘weird and strange names’ I am proud to be grandma. I do like papa and my granddaughter called me Nama for awhile until she could say grandma. One lady I know had the grand children call her ‘LaLa’ I could NEVER understand that. I dislike all the cutsie strange names.
Just my own humble opinion as a {grandma of six}. Grand Ma… it’s an honor to pass the baton of faith and love to my little ones.

  21. Check out “grandmother” in other languages. Maybe something from your heritage. A few I know:
    French – grand-mere
    German – oma
    Spanish – Abuela

  22. My great-grandparents were Nanny and Pappy. My grandparents are Mamaw and Papa. And my parents go by Nana and B’bo. I also like Grammy. 🙂 I am so excited for you!

  23. I am Nana to my babies! But understand your not wanting to use it! I have a friend and her grandbabies call her Sweetie. Before my fist grandbaby was born I always said I didn’t care what she called me – as long as she called me!!! Enjoy this special time!

  24. Hey Cyndi! I’m Traci and Blake’s friend from Asbury. I’m thinking of all of my friends and their mom’s nicknames…My mom is Mama Judy, my stepmom is Mimi. Other ideas are G-Mama, G, Gigi, Mom-Mom and I have an Aunt who is “Honey” and her husband is “Grandaddy Sir” PRECIOUS! Good luck to you!

  25. ~Courtney’s belly is too cute!

I became a grandma in my late 30’s and did not want to be called grandma. My grandma name is “Zannie”. I borrowed it from Suzanne Somers, and I love it. “Grammy” is cute!

  26. Just wanted to say that Courtney is such a pretty mother-to-be
and say that I have always liked the name Mae-Mae. Our daughter-in-law is at 29 weeks with a baby girl we are all so excited, so even tho this will be our third grandchild we understand your anticipation.

  27. Sweet Courtney looks amazing…..truly exciting days are ahead for all of you!

    You’ve asked a great question……I like Gammy….GiGi….

I’m anxious to hear what you’ve decided is the perfect ‘fit’.

    🙂

  28. Cyndi-
Your right that new baby smell is heaven sent!! There’s nothing like it!! So excited for you guys! As for the name..my kids call their grandma’s “maw-maw” but I have a friend who’s kids call her mother “Gigi” which I think is kind of cute!!

  29. Cyndi, My grandson calls me Gamma. It is not old sounding and he is so cute saying it. I have not heard of another gamma but, you are more than welcome to use it. God Bless You….

  30. Adria and I had so much fun deciding what Ava should call me. Mother-of-my-mother (Momm) was thrown around. 😉
Adria decided she liked Grammy so we tried going with that. However, Ava decided (at least for now) that I am GaGa.
Other grand-lady names in the family are Mimi, Gigi, Nana, Grandmama, Mamaw and Gran. Tip: make it an easy one to say
if you want your name one of the first off his sweet little lips. 😉 Enjoy! I am celebrating with you.

  31. I thought you were going to be CiCi? Mom is Gran – I like that. This reminds me of the Cosby Show when Claire didn’t want to be called Grandma. She came up with – Mother – the sequel!

  32. My kids call their grandmothers “Grammy” and “Gamma” (pron. gaa-mah, like Gramma, just w/o r). I’ve also heard many kids call their grandmothers “Mimi” or “Big Mama” (I personally wouldn’t want to be called “big” anything, but I don’t think it’s a reference to size haha). You will make a beautiful grandmother inside and out, no matter what your little prince calls you! Congratulations and so excited for you all!
