The Green Bean Sandwich Club

I have a crazy family!

Well crazy in a good way.

We love a celebration and we will celebrate just about anything.

We recently celebrated some birthdays and the theme was green beans.

I told you we were a little bit crazy!

We started The Green Bean Sandwich Club (my husband thinks we’ve lost it!)

Now that may not mean anything to you but ever since

I was little my Nannie (that’s what I called my grandmother)

fixed the best green beans evur!

We loved them so much we stuck them on fresh white bread and

ate them as a sandwich. Oh yes we did!

Well my grandmother passed away in 2002 but we still love to eat

green bean sandwiches and my Aunt Tassy can make them just like Nannie.

So we had the first ever Green Bean Sandwich Club party.

Oh my did we have fun!

It was very southern, because you know we love all things southern.

Here’s a picture of Aunt Tassy’s green beans……………..Yum!!

Here’s some of the table decorations. So cute!

Aunt Tassy had membership cards made for each one of us………

She had a poster made………

and of course we had fried apple pies!

Here’s a picture of the Allen Women (Allen is my Mom’s maiden name).

This was taken not long after my Mom passed away.

Sorry for the glare in the picture but I wanted you to see the cute frame!

So let me encourage you today to

celebrate the small stuff!

Life is short and none of us know when someone

in our family may be gone so spend time together.

Make up a reason for it if you have to!

Come up with your own club,

but just celebrate life together!

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.

I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10

Walking in His Grace,

  1. I LOVE green bean sandwiches!!! I discovered them as a teenager when I was really hungry and there was barely any food in the house. I have loved them ever since. They were the perfect meal in college when I was struggling to make ends meet!I googled “green bean sandwich” after eating one for breakfast this morning and found your club! I thought I was alone in the world with my weird sandwich concoction, but it looks like I found some kindred spirits. I was born in the south to southern parents, but raised in California. They, however, will not try my sandwiches. Oh well, more for me!

  2. Cyndi,

I love your Green Bean Sandwich Club and that your Aunt Tassie made membership cards and a poster! My sweet little man dubbed me “LaLa” because I would rock and sing to him as a baby. Since then, we formed the LaLa Sisterhood Club and have tea-parties; complete with outrageous hats.
My post and yours deliver the same message — life is reason enough to celebrate.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

  3. Oh I just love the Green Bean Sandwich Club! That’s fantastic! We MUST have Nannie’s recipe…pretty please.

I love your encouraging words wednesday. Thanks so much for doing it. Lisa~

  4. Love this! And I love me some of those beans!! But I have to admit, as much as I like fresh green beans, I’m not sure about having them on a sandwich. Hmmm. I’d have to think about that. Or maybe I just need some like your Nannie made! 🙂

I tell you the truth, I’d glad to be part of your family in Christ–and when I read posts like this, I wish I were part of your family on earth. Y’all have the best time!

  5. LOVE this! You have inspired me to look a little closer, dig a little deeper to find the marvelous in the mundane!

  6. What a cute and uplifting post. Sounds like you have a wonderful family. I am sorry I didin’t link back to your blog but during the day, all I have to work on is my iPad and it won’t let me link back. I will tonight!

  7. I know what kind of beans you’re talking about and they’re the best…don’t think I could put them on a piece of bread, but maybe a buttermilk bisuit?! I made my Granny’s apple butter last week and some biscuits- divine!

  8. I’m proud to be a full fledged card carrying member of the Green Bean Sandwich Club. Nannie would be so proud! Love all of our fun times together!
