Let’s Talk Hair Products!

Good Morning!

I hope your weekend was great! I did some nesting and organizing around my house and I found a wonderful way to store all my scarves. I’m always looking for new ways to organize aren’t you?

Today I wanted to share some hair products I use and love. I buy some products from a salon, some from local stores and I order some online.

Most of the time I use L’OREAL shampoo and conditioner.

This shampoo and conditioner is designed specifically for people who color there hair. I have my hair colored every 4 to 5 weeks (not because I have to or anything, ahem) . I use the volume shampoo and conditioner.

The next three products I started using after reading The Small Things Blog. If you haven’t checked this blog out I would highly recommend it!

  • Redken Extreme Cat

protein for your hair

This is a concentrated protein spray that will help strengthen and smooth your hair from the inside out and I use it three to four times a week. This product helps your hair feel stronger and smoother.

  • Aquage Uplifting Foam

root lifter

I like oomph and this next product definitely helps with that! This is a root lifter and it will give your hair volume. If you like flat hair this product is not for you. (I order this online because the salon I use does not carry it.)

  • Kenra Volume 25 hairspray

hair spray

The first time I tried this hairspray I didn’t think I liked it, but after I used it for about a month I was hooked. It’s a strong but flexible hold. Which basically means it holds but you can brush through your hair if you want to. It’s not sticky or cakey (I’m not sure that’s a word).

For days when I’m hanging around the house I use TRESemme’ hairspray because it’s cheaper and I don’t want to waste my Kenra hairspray. 🙂

That’s basically it! Do you have products you use regularly and love? I would love to know what they are!

Beauty For the Heart~~This week I’m studying from Acts10 and how God revealed to Peter that He doesn’t show favoritism.

Then Peter began to speak: “Now I really understand that God doesn’t show favoritism, but in every nation the person who fears Him and does righteousness is acceptable to Him.” Acts 10:34-35

This verse reminds us that God isn’t prejudice and wants everyone to accept the good news of the gospel!

  1. The Aquage Uplifting foam is AWESOME! I used the salon locator on the Aquage.com site & found a salon close to me that sold Uplifting Foam. I would never recommend buying from on online store because I have had such bad experiences receiving very old product from online stores. Never had this problem by purchasing from a salon. And at least I know the product is fresh by buying from a salon! If you can’t find a salon that carries a product you want, then contact the manufacturer & they will send it to you– sometimes for free!
I’ve had this happen several times which was really nice.

  2. I love Aquage products. Loreal sulfate free left my hair so dry, I only used it once, but Aquage is sulfate free as well and works and smells great. For hair spray I like Bed Head, because it doesn’t smell like hair spray.

  3. Paul Mitchell Super Strength Liquid Treatment is a GREAT product for strengthening your hair! Not sure how it compares the the Redken Extreme Cat, but it is a little cheaper! Also, you can get some “knockoffs” of good shampoo and conditioner at Sally Beauty Supply. Not all of them are the same (for example, their knockoff of Aquage is not good at all), but some of them, such as the knockoff of Biolage, work just as well as the realy thing. Also, the good thing with Sally is that you can return it if you don’t like it. Good luck! : )

  4. Thanks for the tips. I too love The Small Things blog and have acquired and am using most of the products Kate recommends. (Have but haven’t used the Aquage foam.) I haven’t decided about the Kenra 25 hair spray yet. It seems a little stiff for me. And I’ve been using a serum or spray before blowdrying and straightening. My hair looks better but I really need to shampoo every day or my hair looks oily the next day. Would really prefer not to have to do that (and at 52, really should I have to?). Keep the tips coming.

  5. I am loving all of your beauty tips. I am always looking for good quality products I can get at my local CVS Pharmacy or Walgreens. Do you know if you if the shampoo/condition you use is Paraben free? I try to avoid those at all costs and that’s why I buy most of my stuff at The Body Shop, but it can be costly.

  6. I use Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine Hairspray. I have my husband and 15 year old daughter hooked on it also. I signed up for the reward card at Ulta and use the coupons they include with their monthly ad they mail to me. What site do you order the Aquage from? I haven’t had any luck finding it locally. I’ll have to try the Loreal shampoo and conditioner. Right now I use the Matrix product inthe aqua colored bottles for colored hair/volume and love it. One good thing about getting older, since I color my hair I don’t have to wash it daily and I use a lot less product.

I also color my hair at home. After being told by at least 2 stylists that it was really simple to do at home and a great way to save money, I got brave and did it. Really easy. I stay with Loreal haircoloring products since that was what they told me to use. Using coupons at CVS last week I got 7 boxes for about $2.30 each. I LOVE having the money I saved to buy other things for myself (since I am a mom, I my kids usually come first).

  7. Thanks so much! I only started coloring my hair a few months ago and have been wondering what shampoo I should use. I love all of your beauty tips….inside and out! Lisa~

  8. Six or so years ago I decided to save money and went with the cheapest hair products I could find. BIG mistake. After a few months my hair was horribly dry and brittle. My husband finally said my hair looked like hay and he didn’t care what I paid, but I needed to get something better. So I tried every different product I could find at places like Walmart, but nothing helped. I finally spent the big bucks for salon hair products and what a difference! I love Biolage. And really, as long as it lasts and as little as you have to use, it isn’t much more than the cheaper stuff from Walmart. I also love Argan Oil for flat ironing and blow drying. 🙂

  9. I have just started using “it’s a 10” on my hair. I’m wondering if it works like extreme cat? My friend let me use her Aquage after seeing the Small Things Blog and I loved it. I’ll have to order some on line because I haven’t found it either. Thanks for the great tips! -Hannah
