5 Ways To Fake Thick Hair

Okay, since several of you have emailed me hair questions I’m going to talk about hair today and I’m sharing 5 Ways To Fake Thick Hair.

Several of you asked if I had thick hair. I texted my hair stylist and asked her if I had thick hair, thin hair, or in between. She said I have fine hair with a lot of strands so it’s in between. I thought that’s what she would say, I just wanted to be sure.

I think my haircut helps to make my hair look thick but it’s really not so, here are some things I do to fake thick hair:

1. Fake thick hair by using a volume enhancing shampoo and conditioner. I personally use L’Oreal Paris EverPure Volume Shampoo, 8.5-Fluid Ounce and L’Oreal Paris EverPure Volume Conditioner, 8.5-Fluid Ounce. Avoid shampoos and conditioners that contain moisturizers because they weigh hair down.

2. Use a thickening gel or mousse. I use Paul Mitchell Extra Body Thicken Up, 6.8-Ounces Bottle

This product has made a huge difference in my hair feeling thicker. I use it everyday!

3. Blow dry your hair from root to tip with a round brush. Turn your head over several times while blow drying to add lift.

4. Tease hair at the crown for added appearance of full, thick hair. Don’t overdue this but a little can add volume and thickness. Of course if you read my fall hair trends the teased look is in!

5. Choose hairstyles that flatter fine hair such as a short, classic bob, or a medium, classic bob. Also, a shoulder-grazing cut angled in long layers around the face is flattering. If you have fine hair, the longer you let it grow, the thinner it will look. If you feel your hair is looking thin or stringy, try cutting off a couple of inches.

These are 5 tips I use to fake thick hair. Do you have any suggestions? Let me know!

A few weeks ago I posted some products I use to help with my dry hair from using a blow dryer and flat iron everyday. These two products have helped my hair so much! You can find them here.

  1. Late finding this, but I wanted to share my tricks – I blow dry my hair completely bent over upside down. It makes a huge difference. I have naturally wavy hair, so I flat-iron also – but don’t start my iron all the way at the root. I take each section of hair, and start my flat-iron a little bit out from the scalp, like a half-inch or so. (So I don’t flatten out the lift I just created with my products and drying upside down.)

  2. I use “magic hair powder”, the trade name is topixx its a shake in keratin based product with natural hair color tone, that clings to each hair to make it thicker, and covers any scalp peek-thru… Huge help for ladies with thin or very fine hair.

  3. Bumble and bumble hair thickening spray is AMAZING! I also blow dry wit head upside down till roots are dry then with cold hair for a minute. It really works for more volume.

  4. You can have some of my thick hair (and both of my daughters)!! Ha, ha! However, my hair is heavy so it lays flat. I do all of your suggestions for thin hair, but because mine is so heavy, it won’t hold much for long. After awhile it falls flat. I wish I could get the lift you get.

  5. Great tips! The best product I’ve ever used for volume at the roots is osis dust it. I used to do hair so I’ve tried lots of stuff, and it really is the best!

  6. Another tip to share is to limit the use of a sharp or straight part. Styling your hair with a high bang (meaning the bangs begin further towards the crown of the head), having a messy zig-zag part, or if you have a short bob, having more style/length around your face than towards the back of your head/neck will make it appear more full and thick! I do these with my hair personally and it’s amazing what a messy part will accomplish!! 🙂

  7. haha! Oh my word! If I could just give you half of my way-too-thick hair, we’d both be happy. 😉 Your hair is beatiful and I would have never guessed it was really thin. You seem to get nice volume.
