31 Days Of Fashion & Beauty For Women Over 40

Okay, here we are at the beginning of October! I’m so excited to begin this series-31 days of Fashion & Beauty For Women Over 40.

I’m guessing that a lot of you are like me and asking the same question, “How in the world did I get here?” It was just yesterday that I had my first pimple!

Of course everyday when I get up and look in the mirror, I realize I’m not 16, or 26, or 36…..I’m 46! I don’t know about you but I’m noticing age spots, crow’s-feet, gray hair, spider veins, gravity issues everywhere (to put it nicely), and the list goes on.

So, over the next month we’re going to look at ways we can look younger, thinner and feel better. We are NOT over the hill! Remember 40s the new 20, 50s the new 30 and 60s the new 40. Works for me!

We’re going to start at the top of our body, the head, and work our way down. I’ll be sharing some to-do tips and some not-to-do tips. Believe me, I have a lot to learn too and I can’t wait to get started!

Tomorrow we’ll talk Hair. What looks good, and what makes us look younger.

To get us started, I’ll leave you with “things that shouldn’t be seen on anyone who has left her twenties”: (This is not my list but is from the book, How Not To Look Old by Charla Krupp.) In my opinion I think it should be more like anyone who has left her thirties:

  • A dead-middle part with straight hair, no layers
  • High ponytail
  • Braids
  • Beaded braids
  • Thick, structured headbands
  • Ribbons
  • Kiddie barrettes
  • Glitter
  • Hair accessories that could be mistaken for toys or charms
  • Scrunchies

**I’m using two books as resources, How Not To Look Old by Charla Krupp and Staging Your Comeback by Christopher Hopkins.

  1. Hi, have just discovered your website and really enjoy it. Loved all of the 31 days of fashion and beauty! You look great, love your style!

  2. Thank you for all you do!
You are pretty, and people like pretty people. I am 54 and not pretty, but that’s ok. A lot of it comes from my situation, son in jail, a son who is delayed and a husband who keeps loosing jobs, but I’m ok! Thanks for making me smile:)

  3. I stumbled across your blog while on Pinterest looking for a new hair style. What kind of cut do you have? It’s what I’ve been looking for! 🙂 Anyways, although I’m not in my 40s, I feel more comfortable and would try some of your ideas mentioned/ shown. Also, I just wanted to tell you I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog and the scriptures included. 🙂 keep up the wonderful work and ministry!

  4. Just found your blog yesterday. I read all of your “31 days” last night. I am 45 and I can’t count how many “rules” I have broken. It was a great day to read this, since I was a little upset that I was picking up my first pair of bifocal glasses. It did inspire me to order a pair of black-flat riding boots (which I got 50% off-Now let’s hope they fit) and to make a hair appointment. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? I know I need to start doing more for myself, but I am the get up 40 minutes before I leave kind of person.

  5. So Looking forward to this one… I turned 60 this year…….. first time I kind of felt that weird feeling… Like “Kind of depressing” to be 60 … how ???? .. soooo fast!!! Why just yesterday I had on my bellbottoms and flip flops… with my hair blowing in the wind!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL….. Seriously … I am grateful to be alive and healthy… but i do care about how I present myself.. and I do still work outside the home…. in an office…… SOOOOOOOOOOO …. I am tuned in!!!! Thank you so much Cyndi…. (pssst… I do have bangs and it does help!!!) 🙂

  6. Thanks for the list Cyndi, luckily I’m a black woman and can wear braids til I’m old and grey….have you seen Oprah’s?? Gotcha!!!

  7. I am looking forward to your series, Cyndi! I just turned 40 last month. Don’t tell anyone but at home sometimes I still wear two pony tails (like Mary Anne on Gilligans Island, but lower, hard to explain!) 🙂

  8. I’m going to mention ponytails tomorrow so be sure to check back! Of course, all rules are made to be broken and you have to do what your comfortable with.
    Thanks for stopping by!
    Cyndi

  9. I’m writing for women over 40 so that can be 40, 50 ,60 etc. I seriously don’t know how I got in this age group of women. 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by! You are a beautiful 40 something woman!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  10. Hilarious list! Luckily I don’t have wear any of those things in my hair- although I do wear it long and pulled back in a ponytail. I sometimes wonder if I’m too old for this style- but it is just so easy and seems to suit me.
Can’t wait to check back tomorrow to see what else you will share!

  11. While we are on the subject of glitter, can anyone recommend any good matte eyeshadows? I pick out colors and then when I get home and put them on they look too frosted. And I know a 50 something isn’t supposed to wear frosted eyeshadows 😉 I prefer the taupe colors. Any suggestions? Tks!

  12. Yep, thick hair is problem hair. I have it too although not long enough for braids. I just pull mine back with a clasp when I’m home. People sometimes don’t understand how hard it is to manage thick hair. Your profile pic is beautiful and don’t give up hope, ever.

  13. Hey girl! I’d better read your post while I can, since I only have 11 more months to be in my 40’s!! But if 40 is the new 30, then I guess 50 is the new 40. Right? (Please say yes!)

I’m tracking with you so far on the “what not to do” stuff. I’m looking forward to learning from you. Love ya!

  14. Yikes, I break a few of those. Braids are this thick-haired girl’s friend.

As for your age, you don’t look it! You are 46 and a grandma and I’m 41 and still long to be a mom. Been a dream for 29 years. I haven’t given up hope!

Excited to see the next 30 posts.

  15. Great idea! I can’t wait. I’m 47 like you and, like you said, I am shocked every time I think about how fast the years have flown. Thanks for great info and a great month of tips.
