4 Easy Steps To Clean Makeup Brushes

Okay ladies, it’s time to clean those makeup brushes! You do clean them, right? Today I’m sharing 4 easy steps to clean makeup brushes.

I told my sister that I was going to share this today and this was her answer, “I’m supposed to clean my brushes??” I’m not kidding! I can only do so much with my DIY sister. I’m sure they’re covered in dry wall dust!

We should clean our makeup brushes because each time we use a makeup brush, it picks up both makeup and any natural oils on our face, as well as dead skin cells, dirt and debris. Bacteria can make a home in dirty makeup brushes too.

Cleaning our brushes is super easy and should be done once a week (although I usually only do it once a month).

Here are 4 easy steps to clean makeup brushes:

1. Wet the brushes with warm water.

2. Use a mild soap or shampoo. I use baby shampoo. Apply a small amount to the bristles and work into a light lather.

3. Rinse bristles thoroughly under running water. The water leaving the brush will be tinted with makeup. Rinse thoroughly making sure there is no color left.

4. After you have rinsed thoroughly, squeeze out excess water and lay them flat on a paper towel or washcloth. Allow them to dry completely.

I also clean my beauty blender with mild soap although there is cleaner specifically for a beauty blender. I love my beauty blender and I’ll be talking more about it tomorrow.

Do you clean your makeup brushes? How often?

  1. Guilty like Traci! 😉 Never! haha… but yep, you might find me knee deep in a DIY project like your dear sister. haha! I love both your blogs dearly, but find myself more into projects around our home. So thank you Cyndi… I will do it this week!! 🙂

  2. I do actually clean my brushes, but I have to admit, it’s probably only about two or three times a year. And, uh, Traci, you’re gross. 😉

  3. ummm.. I know I am suppose to comment about the brushes and cleaning them…. but I am too busy wiping the tears from my eyes… I laughed and laughed about the comment concerning Traci’s brushes… HILARIOUS!!!!! .. AND NOW.. I will patiently wait on post about “Beauty Blender” … never heard of it!!!!! 🙂 … thanks for the post Cyndi…

  4. I hardly ever wear makeup, so I don’t need to clean my brushes that often. When I do, I use either my clarifying shampoo or an antibacterial handsoap. It seems to work ok 🙂 Great post!
