Over 40 Makeup Tips-Corrector

Over 40 Makeup Tips-Correctors
Hey ladies! Today I’m sharing over 40 makeup tips (tricks, secrets, must have’s for me! :-)) and we’re talking about correctors.

I have always had dark circles under my eyes. But I notice the older I get the more they’re showing up on a daily basis. Some days I wake up and it looks like someone has blacked both my eyes!

That’s why an eye corrector is my best friend!

Correctors are different than concealers. They brighten the darkest areas under our eyes and concealers lighten. I use both a corrector and a concealer.

There are lots of correctors to choose from but two of my favorite are Bobbi Brown Corrector. It runs around $30 but it’s really good!

I also like Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector. It works great and is reasonably priced around $12.

When applying corrector use a small concealer brush and start at the inner eye. Apply it to all areas of darkness. Gently press the corrector into the skin with your fingers.

After moisturizing my face, corrector is the first thing I apply. Then the rest of my makeup.

Do you struggle with dark circles? Do you use a corrector? I’d love to know what you use!

Beauty For the Heart~~No matter what you’re facing today, know that God is with you. He is on your side and he loves you! Romans 8:31 says, What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Have a blessed day!

  2. Hey Denise!
I’m sorry I didn’t answer this sooner. I don’t use CoverGirl/Olay concealor, I use their corrector and I don’t think there’s different shades, only one.
    I hope that helps,
    Cyndi

  3. Just wondering… what shade do you use in the Cover Girl/Olay concealor? I looked at it at Target today; there were three shades, but I wasn’t sure which on to go with. It’s on sale this week, so I’ll pick it up after I hear from you! As always, thanks for your help!

  4. I have just recently discovered your website. I just wanted to say how much I love it! Thank you for reminding us that it is okay to care about our appearance. I have battled with depression for years and had developed an attitudevof not caring, if people didn’t like the way I looked they shouldn’t look. Since starting to come out from under the depression, I have realized that a little bit of effort makes ME feel better about ME. I just wanted to thank you for your caring approach, great tips and gentle encouragement while reminding us of God’s grace.

  5. I struggle with dark circles, too. One of my recent finds that really makes a difference is Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder. It’s a very fine, white powder that is used to set concealer/corrector. It’s a little pricey at $22, but you use such a tiny amount that it will probably last forever! I apply it with a small brush right over my concealer and it brightens and also keeps your concealer from settling into any fine lines.

  6. I guess I am very fortunate. I’m 50+ and have never had a problem with dark circles. I do, however use an under eye concealer just to smooth things out. I was out of town and realized my concealer was not in my makeup bag. I went to a Target nearby and picked up a Maybelline anti-aging concealer, it’s a twist up with a sponge tip. I loved it and have continued to use it ever since and I save myself about $20 every time I need to purchase a new one!

  7. That’s funny because I have Bobbi Brown’s makeup manual and she puts the corrector and concealer on first. I don’t think it makes a big difference!
    Thanks for stoppin by!

  8. Hi Kelleen
You can purchase Bobbi Brown cosmetics in dept. stores. We have it at Macy’s. I’m not sure about the mascara?? I would use a lengthening mascara, not a volumizing mascara. If I find something out I’ll post about it!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  9. Hi Nancy!
Yes, Traci and I are sisters. We lost our precious Mom in 2009 and we both still miss her so much. Thankfully, Traci and I live close to each other!!
    Thanks for stopping by!
    Cyndi

  10. I love Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer, too! I used to apply them first but was told by the Bobbi Brown consultant to use the tinted moisturizing balm first ( moisturizer and foundation in one), and then use the corrector followed by the concealer. It seems to work well. Love your tips for those of us over 40!

  11. Are you Traci’s (beneath my heart) sister? I think I recognize your mothers picture from her blog. I love her blog and am thrilled to find yours. I have had dark circles under my eyes all my life. Will be trying your discoveries. Thanks so much.

  12. I have circles too, I use concealer but didn’t know there was a difference. I will try the Olay! But just in case, where can I get the Bobbie Brown corrector. Another issue I have is my mascara getting under my eyes. I have tried only using moisturizer under them at night, but this doesn’t seem to help. Any mascara does this to me (that I’ve tried so far anyway) including water proof. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution to it?

  13. I never knew there was such a thing as corrector. I am very fair skinned and I actually have purple circles under my eyes. I will have to try the Cover Girl first. Hopefully it is light enough. I wouldn’t want to have dark circles from the corrector.

  14. The dark circles under my eyes are pretty bad also. My mom has them, her dad had them, etc. People always think I look tired.
I’ve been using a product called Amazing Concealer that I found at Sephora. I didn’t know there were two types of products: concealer and corrector. I’m going to check out Bobbi Brown since a lot of your followers seem to like that product. I have used Olay Simply Ageless makeup before and really like it.
    Thanks for the info!!

  15. Yes, dark circles have been with me for some time as they are inherited and are very difficult to cover. I use a concealer with a yellow tint because I’ve heard that it’s better to use on purplish dark circles. But, it still doesn’t completely hide them so I think I need to try the corrector. As I have gotten older, my eyes have look like they’ve sunken in so maybe the corrector will help with that.

  16. Thanks for the post Cyndi. I never thought about the difference between a corrector and a concealer until your post. I don’t use either, but probably should! Being an older mom of a 3 1/2 year old, I don’t do much more than the basics: powder foundation, eyeshadow, blush, liner, mascara, and lips. I don’t know if the prices are less than department stores, but QVC.com sells Bobbi Brown products. May be something for you Bobbi users to look in to.

Hope you have an amazing day! Thanks so much for the information.
    Gina

  17. Thanks for the tip! I didn’t realize there was a difference between a corrector and a concealer.

I have noticed that makeup doesn’t cover under my eyes like it used to so I am assuming that they are getting somewhat worse. I might try the Olay one since I have slightly oily skin and Pam says it is slightly drier.

    Thanks for sharing!

  18. Thank you for sharing this! I’m a thirty seven year old mom of 5 ( with the youngest being just over a year). I have really noticed the dark circles cropping up with the last couple of babies. I’ve tried lots of different concealers with some help, but I still see those tired dark circles. I just ordered this and can’t wait to try it!

  19. I sometimes use the Olay Simply Ageless makeup. It is more drying in the winter but I still use it for my under eye make up as I have inherited the dark circles. Two make ups in one and I save money!!! I would like to try Bobbie Brown when I run out of Olay. Thanks for all the tips

  20. I have a question…Do you put on this corrector and then concealer over that, or is it used in place of a concealer?

  21. Just bought the Bobbie Brown corrector and concealer about two weeks ago also the hydrating eye creme…love all of them and I can say they are worth the money.
    Have a great day!

  22. I have had HORRIBLE undereye clrcles since I was a teenager and I think I’ve tried almost every product ever made. I get so frustrated because the product either doesn’t cover the circles or settles in the fine lines within a few hours. SO frustrating! I’ve also tried the peach & lavender colored correctors and nothing seems to work well. I find myself touching up my undereye area numerous times a day! Ok, I’m through venting!! Just know that you are not alone with dark circles!! Love your blog, also your scriptures are uplifting & encouraging!

  23. I have such bad under eye circles, just like my dad! I use Erase Paste by Benefit and it is awesome! I’ve never found anything that covers them like this does. Like Karen, I also have to put on cream first. I’m a mess girl! And so thankful for your tips. Lisa~

  24. Hi Cyndi, I also use concealer, in fact, I use the Bobbi Brown one you listed, too. I found it at a discount make-up store on vacation last November. It works wonderfully, but my skin underneath is very dry, even though I use eye cream. So, for me to be able to use this, I apply the eye cream and very gently dab the concealer on top of that. Hope you’re having a wonderful day!
