10 Things That Can Take 10 Years Off

10 Things That Can Take 10 Years Off!

My sister and I were talking this week about how being over 40 changes things. We’re more conscious of what we wear. Things we could pull off ten years ago with clothes or even makeup don’t look the same way now.

I think most of us would like to look younger. We see those fine lines sneaking up on our face and neck, waistlines have changed and our skin doesn’t have that same glow. So I thought I’d share 10 things we can do to take 10 years off right now.

Just a fun list that will help keep you looking youthful but not looking like your teenage daughter or granddaughter.

 1. Lighten those lips

2. Don’t use dark lipliner. You can wear lipliner but you shouldn’t be able to see it.

3. Stay away from sparkly eyeshadows.  Too much sparkle will accentuate fine lines.

4. Keep your eyeliner thin.

5. Lighten up the foundation. Use only what you need, too much foundation actually ages us.

6. Use cream blush. Remember we want a dewy look.

7. Use an exfoliant on your face. My favorite is Dermalogica for everyday and Mary Kay Timewise Microdermabrasion Set weekly.

8. Cut some bangs. We’ve talked about this many times!

9. Polish your toes! Especially with spring coming, polished toes are perfect.

10. Add a hip accessory. Belts, earrings, necklaces, scarves etc.

I love sharing over 40 fashion! It’s fun to find ways to look and feel our best.

What do you think about this list? Anything you would you add?

Beauty For the Heart~~I found this quote but I’m not sure who said it, “Let your faith be bigger than your fear.” Fear does not come from God. He wants us to live victoriously!

Have a blessed day!

  1. I agree with your tips as well as your readers recommendations. A good haircut, shoulder length or above takes years off!! Teeth whitening is great too!! The Crest white strips work well but so does the generic version….and they are less expensive. Thanks for all you share with us Cyndi 🙂

  2. I guessIi’ll put in my two cents! Get some high quality, well-fitting undergarments. Have a professional help determine your correct size. Wearing a minimizier sheds the pounds and a properly fitting brassiere will not ride up, cut in or expose the dreaded flab. Plus, you’ll feel more comfortable and that can only help one looking better. Besides, it’s just nice to feel pretty all over.

  3. Hi Cyndi! I love your blog and have been a happy follower for a while now. Although I’m in the over 50 age group I still feel your tips apply for me too. I’m going to try some creme blush, there is a Merle Norman right next door to my hairdresser so I’ll give it a try.
My tip is to drink water, it really improves the look of your skin

  4. Good morning, Cyndi, I wanted to thank you for all your tips for my age group of women. We do have some new challenges after the “M” word, and dry skin is a big one for me. I will have to look into changing over to cream blush. One of the things that I do is to only use light colored polish (if any) on my nails. I have several dark spots lately, and it seems that the bold, dark colors accentuate them.

  5. Great tips Cyndi! I’m still working on the cream blush, trying to find one that is creamy looking but doesn’t go oily on me. Each time I put my powder blush on, the more and more it looks like chalk to me. (Why didn’t it look like that 20 years ago?) I’ll keep you posted on my progress, the one I want is just around the corner somewhere.

  6. I am in complete agreement with the teeth whitening. I don’t thin anything ages you more than discolored teeth. I do facial peels regularly. BUT the one thing that I think is the most important of all is bioidenticals hormones for menopause. Nothing, I mean nothing ages you more than menopause. Bioidenticals protect your bones, heart and lady parts. They also keep your skin and hair young, not to mention freeing you from the symptoms of menopause. A newly found bonus is that if you’ve already had breast cancer, bioidenticals protect you twenty percent more than using nothing against reoccurrence. I could go on and on!!!! !

  7. Next week I am doing the VI Peel for my face! EEEKK!! I am excited because I have had Melasma since pregnancy with Parker. I am hoping my skin will look much better…but we shall see! I love these tips!

  8. I would LOVE to see your top 10 “go to” clothing stores/websites! I talk to friends all the time that say they have a hard time shopping for clothing during this phase of life. You sooo do NOT want to dress like your daughters, HOWEVER, you are not quite feeling the love of head to toe polyester. I know you know what I mean. 🙂 Please forgive me if you have done this prior to my following you.

  9. Another thing is to be confident. To do this, surround yourself with people that believe in you and shed those who don’t. Remember God believes in us and qualifies us to do whatever He asks us. Being confident in who we are is a key!

Second, remember that what we wear and say is the first impression that people will have of us. She we need to think about what we want our image to be and make sure our clothes and our words reflect that.

    Jesus loves you!

  10. Hi Cyndi.

I totally agree with all of your ideas. There are also many things women 40+ do that make themselves look 10 years older. It seems that some women reach 40 and just give up, sadly. Maybe some day you can write a book and help them see that being 40+ doesn’t have to mean being frumpy. 🙂 I see people that I went to school with, and some of them look older than my mom! She even says that from time to time. Anyway, you always look amazing and not anywhere close to 40. 🙂

  11. Love it! I would add, don’t (necessarily) cut your hair. It used to be that the over 40s had to get the dreaded helmet head or the Nancy Reagan, but I think each person can carry off different hair lengths. I love your sassy bob and Traci’s lovely long hair, and I think you both look fab.

  12. I love your blog. I love all your tips. I was wondering about the cream blush. I am a little scared of it. Any suggestions??? Someone mentioned whiting your teeth. I am wondering what the best product for that would be. I can not afford to have it done professionally. I have had a hard time changing my foundation. When I was younger I used Total finish from Merle Norman. I like that thick make up. Getting older and changing to a lighter foundation has taken some getting use to.

  13. Cyndi…love your list. You hit upon some of the major ones. I wouldn’t change the list at all. Since I’m in the over 50 group, I’ve been using many of these tips for a while now. At first it can be hard to change but once a person sees what a positive difference these changes can make, it’s great! I especially appreciate the “no sparkle” shadow tip. I’ve been ranting about this one for years for older women!

I sure enjoy your blog…take care and God Bless,

    Nancy

  14. I love your blog and these tips. My suggestion – go for shorter hair. I just took the plunge into a longish pixie cut and everyone states how much younger I look

  15. Great list and I agree with the comment about having whiter teeth. Any recommendations on teeth whitening products?

  16. I read your blog everyday even though I’m in the over 50 group! I love your tips! I do have one more for your looking 10 years younger blog…whiten your teeth. It’s amazing how a bright white smile knocks off the years!
