Simply Sunday-The Bible

Here’s what I’ve learned about the Bible: That reading God’s word prepares me not only for today but for tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after, and the day after that and so on and so on.

Through reading the Bible, we come to know Jesus who is the bread of life. John 6:35 says, Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

I love how Ann Voskamp describes God’s word, “a sure Word, a pure Word, the only secure Word. I believe the words on those pages are breathed from the very throne room of heaven, are the love letter penned from the heart of God; a beacon of light for stumbling feet to find sure footing on a dark path.”

I don’t know about you, but I need a beacon of light!

Praying today that you will seek His word. Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Cyndi,

This post was so meaningful for me. Sunday morning I’m in a Disciples 1 class and Sunday evening a series of 5 Lenten small group discussions based on the sermon Sunday morning. Your post and Ann Voskamp’s “What I Believe” are wonderful compliments to both group discussions this week. I was not familiar with Ann until now.Thank you.

  2. Good Sunday post…I appreciate what you said. I am in the middle of a study “defending the King James Bible” and it is amazing why we still use the King James Bible over all other Bibles. It truly is preserved by God and truly are God’s Words.

  3. Hi Cyndi, The opening quote is fabulous, I’m posting it on the kitchen bulletin board! My husband decided last November that he was going to read the Bible cover to cover. It’s been great for me, he always has great stories to tell that I have either forgotten about or never knew. He’s always astounded at how many times he will read a portion that seems to have been written specifically for him on a specific day when he really needed to hear it. Blessing to you and yours!

  4. Love the quote on the post it! I’m going to incorporate this into a devotion for my bible study 🙂 thx for sharing and have a blessed Sunday …

  5. I love this quote! As a Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader it says just exactly what I’m always trying to tell my “girls” — we can’t live up to our potential as Christians without intimate knowledge of the Word!
