Fashion Over 40-What I Wore

31 Days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips

It’s Day 9 of 31 days of Fall Fashion & Beauty Tips. Today I’m sharing some fall fashion that I wore this week. (We’ll continue with our Building our Fall Wardrobe tomorrow!)

I may have had more misses this week than hits with my wardrobe. I’m trying to mix and match and sometimes it doesn’t look as good as I hoped.

I love this silk, polka dot blouse and I added a coral flower necklace but I don’t think I like it together. The necklace stands out too much. Oh well!

blue blouse

Polka dot blouse-Stitch Fix, Coral necklace-Stitch Fix, Ankle Cut jeans-TJ Maxx, Ralph Lauren, and Gold Tip Shoes-Zappos.

We had some warm weather earlier in the week so I’m still wearing some sleeveless tops.

black outfit

Sleeveless top-Ann Taylor, Black skinny jeans-Liverpool jeans, Metallic flats-Marshall’s

I love this chevron print dress but it’s a little short so I added jean leggings. I have to admit I wore it without leggings with a cute pair of sandals on vacation only because my husband loved it. It. was. short.

Chevron print dress-Stitch Fix, Jean leggings-TJ Maxx, Calvin Klein, Metallic flats-Marshall’s, Necklace-I can’t remember.

This is the card that came with the chevron print dress and the way Stitch Fix styled it. Just thought you might like to see it. Again, it’s a little short for me but I had planned on wearing leggings.

Well, that’s some of the outfits I wore this week. I wasn’t crazy about any of them, but I thought I’d share them anyway.

Do you have those weeks where nothing seems to look right? Ugh!

Beauty For the Heart~~ “The spirit of complaint is born out of an unwillingness to trust God with today. Like the Israelites, it means you are spending your time looking back toward Egypt or wishing for the future all the while missing what God is doing right now.” -Priscilla Shirer. Let’s not miss what God is doing today!

Have a blessed day!

  1. Glad to find you. My youngest daughter has been showing me how I need to redo my fashion. Please continue to share. And thanks for telling where you got certain pieces! Look forward to seeing more of your wardrobe!!!’n

  2. Cyndi~ I too own this chevron dress. I am 46 and I paired it with some gray leggings and a pair of gray flats. I wore a cute black shrug over the top and a long silver multi-stand necklace and an arm party (multiple bracelets) all in silver. My husband loved the look and complimented me several times. Everytime I wear it, I get compliments. 🙂 I too thought it would be too short, but it is great. No worries, I am sure you could rock it any way you wear it! Blessings to you and BTW, I LOVE your blog! ~Yvette

  3. Hi Cyndi- we all have those days where we are unsure of our outfits. You still look adorable. I agree with some of the others, the coral necklace is not laying right. But I like how you used the pop of color. The chevron dress looks more form fitting in the picture from stitch fix but it doesn’t seem to show off your cute figure actually on you. Maybe a belt is the answer??? The polka dot shirt is adorable. That’s my favorite. Thanks for sharing with us! Blessings

  4. Oh, I wasn’t meaning ‘that much longer’ just a few inches. Maybe to where the white cami is showing a bit.

  5. I think all your outfits look marvelous! I LOVE the leggings with the dress! Hee hee, you gotta please the hubby too! 😉 What do you think of maybe just having the necklace peek out from under the blouse? Either way, you always look fashionable! I am so excited about the houndstooth scarf that I got at Target today, thanks for sharing that bit of loveliness with us!

  6. I think the coral necklace would look better if it were under the shirt, against your collar bone. It doesn’t always have to be on top of the shirt. The color would be peeking out- and these 2 colors look great together!

  7. I love the navy top with the coral necklace – perfect! And the dress with leggings is very nice too! I may request one of those pieces in my next fix! susan

  8. Hey Cindy, I love all three outfits and I think the necklace looks great with the navy blouse. I also agree with Krista, in that I think the dress is not too short. You should definitely wear it by itself. You’re only 40 for goodness sake!!!

  9. Hi Cyndi, I agree with the other comments… the coral necklace looks good with the blue blouse. Put an extender on it to make it a tad longer and it might not look so busy. I think that necklace would also look good with your second blouse for a pop of color. I also agree with Gina, put some leggings with the Chevron dress, very trendy! Then as it gets cooler, put tights or long leggings and then add boots or even booties. Thank you so much for sharing. You give me some new inspiration to my current wardrobe!

  10. I like the first outfit “as-is” and think a loner necklace would interfere with the pockets and tab. The colour is great. The second outfit is very classy. I’m with Cyndi and the vote for capris and wedges for the last shot, but Michelle beat me to it for the belt suggestion. .. a leather one or a chain belt. You could wrap that necklace around your waist to see how it would look. It’s hard to get it right everyday; that’s why most of us are lazy and adopt our “uniform”.

  11. I like the necklace with the polka dot top. I think perhaps with the same top and white jeans, the necklace would look different. Perhaps because the top is dark and the jeans even darker, the necklace tends to stand out. Just a thought! Also, I like the chevron dress/tunic with the leggings. I think there is a pretty “flow” to the look, and it doesn’t need a belt. The chevron pattern is prettier not being broken up. Again, just my thoughts! 🙂 You wear the leggings well! I haven’t thought they looked nice on anyone I’ve seen wearing them (too-short tops in most cases), but in your picture they do!

  12. Hi Cyndi.

I love the necklace with the blue polka dot shirt. Very cute and on trend. 🙂 I think the Chevron dress looks great on you too. I think you could really rock it with some capri leggings and wedge sandals/shoes. What do you think about that look? Maybe add a very long chain necklace. I think you would look great! 🙂

Have a great day. Thanks for sharing.
    Gina

  13. I think you look cute in all of your outfits! I agree that perhaps the necklace is a bit off with your navy blouse but it’s not so much so that it looks BAD:) You dress is adorable! I really like it with the leggings but don’t see it as too short even without… For my daughters I use the rule that their skirt must be longer than their finger tips… For myself… I go quite a bit longer than that. Your dress is several inches longer than your finger tips and you’ve got great legs so…why not? I also use a rule for myself and my daughters that if you are going to wear something shorter it should be balanced by being more covered up on top and vice versa… The dress has great 3/4 sleeves that balance it being a bit short…. It works for me:) Thank you for always sharing with us even when your not completely happy with a look! Krista

  14. We all have hit or misses… just yesterday, I noticed in my pics that a black pursebwould have been better than the teal one I chose. That’s the beauty of being a blogger and swing photos. Love these looks. I would suggest a belt with the chevron and can picture it with knee high boots and opaque tights as well. The too look would be great with no necklace, but I do love the color it added.

  15. I hope you know that the scripture you put at the end of each post really makes a difference. Thank you! 🙂

  16. I have the same problem with envisioning how something will look and then it doesn’t. It’s especially annoying when I’m trying to get to work and hate how it looks…so I tend to try new things on the weekend and then I know whether it works or not. All of your outfits look fine though. We are always our worst critics, you know. 🙂

  17. I think the chevron dress would look cute with the jean leggings/flats (possibly wedges?) and a wide belt (or maybe a chain style).

  18. I think all 3 outfits are adorable! On the first one, I like the coral against the blue, but maybe it needs to be a tad longer? I have some necklines like that and they are hard to put jewelry with. I have a silver collar with different bobbles to hang on it that I wear underneath, or I lengthen the necklace. (you can add a short chain to the neck.)

  19. Don’t ya just hate it when you have a vision of an outfit in your mind and then when you pull it all together, it’s not at all what you had envisioned???? UGH! 😉

I do like the chevron print dress with the jean leggings but I also think it would look cute with brown ones. I can also see where it would make a fabulous dress for a summer vacation!! Thanks for sharing!
