How To Apply False Eyelashes

There are a lot of things that change after turning 40. One of the things that surprised me was my eyelashes became thinner, shorter and lighter.

Most days I use mascara and an eyelash curler to add shape, length and volume. But sometimes if I’m going somewhere special I enhance my eyelashes a little more with false eyelashes.

False eyelashes have come a long way! They look more natural than ever and are easy to apply!

Here’s how to apply false eyelashes so they look as natural as possible.

You’ll need false eyelashes (duh), a Q-tip (or a toothpick), tweezers, and glue. I use the Ardell brand and I’ve used several different ones. Today I’m using the #105 Glamour length. If you want something a little less subtle try #110 or the demi whispies.

First I put my eyeliner on my eyes and one coat of mascara to my natural eyelashes. Then I remove the false eyelashes with a tweezer. Be careful not to pull any lashes out.

Next I put a drop of glue on a piece of paper. You only need a small amount, I always squirt too much out!

I use a Q-tip to apply the glue to the lash line on the false lashes. I always try to add extra to the ends. I want to make sure they don’t come loose. 🙂

After you have placed the glue on the false eyelashes, let the glue dry for about 30 seconds (it’s best not to blow on them.) Then carefully apply on the lid as close to the roots of your natural lash line as possible.

I apply them from the outer corner of my eye inward, pressing lightly. The white glue dries clear, so don’t freak out if you see glue, it will disappear.

Once the false eyelashes are applied, let them dry for a couple minutes and then add mascara to blend them in with your real ones.

Practice makes perfect, so try them a couple of times and you’ll get the hang of it. You can also re-use them a few times by cleaning them with makeup remover.

Have you ever tried false eyelashes?

  1. Thx for the tutorial. I’ve never tried false lashes. I use a curler too and with mascara, my lashes are pretty long. But this is good info to have. Is the glue safe if it gets in your eyes?? I imagine so :-). Happy new year Cyndi! God bless

  2. Like Jean I cut them and sometimes even use the small section for a very natural look. I just bought a pair and forgot the glue! I’ve never put mascara over them…are they hard to clean? That’s a good hint. P.S. I’m thinking you meant to write MORE subtle. 🙂

  3. You can also cut the eyelashes and just wear them say on the outer third of your eyes. You look fantastic in them! Are you wearing your hair less puffy now? Or are you morphing it into something new? I love your hair and all your beauty tips! They make me feel like I’m worth looking pretty for! Thank you Cyndi~ 🙂

  4. Cyndi: I’ve thought about trying these a long time and just haven’t yet. Yours liook great! How long will they stay on or last? Thanks!

  5. I never have but now I will give it a try…maybe tomorrow, we are going out tomorrow night for New Years Eve. I’d get the demi ones though it I do buy them.

    Have a Happy New Year!

  6. Thank you Cyndi! I have tried them…sometimes with success….sometimes with eyeliner and mascara all over my face and the eyelashes in the trash looking like little dead spiders. Ha ha:) I’m going to give them another try and keep practicing thanks to your tutorial and encouragement:) Love your blog as always… Beauty for the heart is exactly what I needed to hear today… Thanks again!
