How To Stay Healthy Over 40 With Essential Oils

If I could name one thing that has changed the way I feel in my forties, it would have to be essential oils. I know some of you think I’m crazy but until you’ve tried them, you don’t know what you’re missing.

How To Stay Healthy Over 40 With Essential Oils

Believe me, I thought my friends who used them were crazy. But then I decided to do some research and after checking into them and reading testimony after testimony of people who use them and love them, I decided to take the plunge.

First, let me say, I am not anti-doctor. I get my physical and blood work every year. I get my pap smear and a mammogram. I believe in being proactive with my health.

But what I’m doing with my essential oils, is using them daily instead of grabbing over the counter medications that have side affects. Make sense?

You all know I have a fear of flying. Instead of taking a valium or some prescription medication, I use Peace & Calming and Stress Away.

I have only taken ibuprofen one time in the last year. I use peppermint for headaches.

If I burn myself or have a cut, I use Lavender and I’m telling you the pain is gone! Everyone should have Lavender essential oil, especially if you have children at home. It’s amazing!

I diffuse them in our home everyday! Not only does our house smell amazing but diffusing oils also helps:

  • Relax the body, clear the mind, and relieve tension.
  • Reduce bacteria, mold, fungus, and odors.
  • Stimulate neurotransmitters.
  • Improve concentration, mental clarity and alertness.
  • Stimulate secretion of endorphins.
  • Improve digestive functions.
  • Improve hormonal balance. (Yes, please!)
  • Relieve headache.

I do need to tell you, I recently switched from using DoTerra essential oils, to using Young Living essential oils. I know there’s a lot of talk online about the two companies.

Which one is best? I did not switch because I didn’t like DoTerra. I used them and liked them.

I switched because my sister started using Young Living (she thought I was using Young Living, obviously she doesn’t pay attention to me).

We wanted to work together and because so many of our friends use Young Living, she wanted me to switch. Basically it was peer pressure.

If I had titled my post, Why I switched to Young Living essential oils, I could have gotten a ton of traffic. But I’m not wanting to make an issue of this. If you use DoTerra and like the oils, keep using them!

My intent is to tell you how essential oils have helped my overall health and I’m excited about sharing my journey with Young Living.

If you want to get started, I highly recommend the Premium Starter kit. You can go here for more information.

Beauty For the Heart~~“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

Let’s let our light shine today!

  1. Yes, Lavender is good for scarring. I wouldn’t dilute it, it’s not going to hurt you.
I would try it first but there are other oils that will help. Frankincense is supposed to be good too.
I put a lot of info on my pinterest board, you might check that out
    http://www.pinterest.com/cyndi_spivey/why-i-love-essential-oils/
I don’t have this book, but I’m going to order it

I hope that helps, let me know if you need anything else,
    Cyndi

  2. Oh I’m sorry! I completely understand. We each have to do what’s best for us.
I don’t like to read blogs that are negative. Do Terra is a good company.
If I don’t like something, I usually choose not to share about it. That works best for me!
    Blessings,
    cyndi

  3. Will lavender oil help with scarring? And would you rub it undiluted on the scar? I have been interested in learning more about essentials oils but have no idea about how to use them. Is there a book you recommend on learning about how to use essentials oils?

  4. Oh, I’m sad you switched because I loved reading your doTERRA comments. I don’t love the smell of the YL oils.

And, good move not titling your post that way. Whew, there is a ridiculous amount of info on the companies and a lot of it very hurtful and unkind.

  5. Sandy it does come with some information on the everyday essential oils. I have a lot of information on my pinterest board
    http://www.pinterest.com/cyndi_spivey/why-i-love-essential-oils/
Also, I want to make sure that you know with the basic starter kit you get a 5ml bottle of stress away (love this oil) but the other ones are samples. They look like this
    http://www.youngliving.com/en_US/opportunity/products/business-tools/lavender-essential-oil-sample
I just want to make sure that’s understood. But once you get the starter kit, you get the wholesale price which is great.
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  6. Cyndi, does the starter kit give you information on how to use the oils and how to mix them? Without directions or guidance, I would have no idea which oils were for what. I’m interested in the oils for hot flashes also but I can see your point in buying the starter kit to sample other things also.

  7. I use Young Living oils too. That is hilarious about your your sister!

I read so many posts about the oils people use and I never know whether they mean they use them topically or invest them. And I never know which ones need a carrier oil and which don’t. I have a diffuser but have never even opened it.

No one has mentioned Thieves yet. I wish they had named it something else, but, oh, my, I love that one. I would almost wear it as perfume.

  8. Hi Troie,
I use one drop of Peppermint oil on my sinuses and on my temples. I don’t dilute it because it doesn’t bother me. But the first time you use it, I would dilute it.
I would dilute one drop peppermint oil with 1teaspoon of a carrier oil. I use fractionated coconut oil when I dilute my oils which is different than regular coconut oil. You can also use Olive Oil.
    Hope that helps!
    Cyndi

  9. Hey Lisa,
Okay I think this might be a good option. If you buy a starter kit, you get the wholesale price.
The cheapest starter kit is $40.00. Here’s the kithttp://www.youngliving.com/en_US/opportunity/products/starter-kits/basic-starter-kit
With this kit, they send you samples of the everyday oils, so you could try them and you could order the clary sage. Your price for clary sage as a wholesale member would be $47.50. If you order it at retail its $62.50.
It makes a lot more sense to order the starter kit. I think you’ll love the oils and then you’ll get them at wholesale prices.
I’m very interested in the Pressene Plus oil. I’ve been reading about it and I will probably give it a try soon!
    I hope this helps!!

  10. my acupuncturist prepared an inhaler for me with peppermint oil that has had regular use for months and still has good strong benefits still. it has a nice twist on cap and may be why it retains his effectiveness. it is so wonderful for more than one sort of headache from the everpresent thyroid head to allergies to migraine. such relief.!!

  11. I had a throbbing headache this afternoon, I put peppermint oil on both temples and on my forehead, within 15 minutes the pain has left……. works everytime!!!!!

  12. How do you use the peppermint for headaches? Ratio in coconut oil? Place where? Back of the neck?

  13. Hi Cyndi – is it possible to just order one or two essential oils to try them first before ordering an entire kit? I’m having hot flashes regularly and would like to try something first. You suggested clary sage and one of your readers suggested progessene plus. How do I know which works best? Thank you 🙂

  14. Hi Sharon. I was going to ask Cyndi about hot flashes. I’m having them now all the time. Can you tell me how often you take progessene plus and what exactly is it? Thx so much 🙂

  15. Hi Cindy, I had a friend start me on essential oils. I bought the full kit. Yes this works. I use progessene plus for hot flashes and it works immediately. I have had the rain drop therapy done as well. You will love that I love these oils they are must to replace medicine.

  16. Yes they do work for allergies. Treating the symptoms doesn’t have to mean taking drugs. You can use a blend of essential oils called LLP (lemon, lavender, and peppermint) in a variety of ways, including diffusing (3 drops of each in a diffuser), or rub one drop of each on the back of your neck or on your face. (Peppermint is powerful and you will want to add a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil.)
All 3 of these oils come in the premium starter kit from Young Living. Another oil that helps with allergies is RC. You can rub it on the bottoms of your feet, on your chest, and all around her neck.
For Menopause, one of the very best essential oils is clary sage.
    I hope that helps!!
    Cyndi

  17. Hello Cyndi:
I use essential oils…specifically Rescue Remedy for anxiety/stress in my tea and lavender and aloe oils for healing cuts, scrapes, burns, and scarring. I am of the same mind as you and use my osteopathic doctor for blood work, my blood pressure issues (low blood pressure), yearly examines and mild gastro problems but otherwise have found essential oils to be quite effective. Interestingly, most of the rest of the world’s health professionals have used essential oils in conjunction with modern medicines for decades…we are behind here in the U.S. 🙂
I haven’t found a good essential oil for my irritable bowel issues and would like to know your thought. Happy Tuesday!

  18. My family suffers so much with allergies. Do any of the oils work for those? Also, I think I am approaching menopause…what oils would help with that transition?

  19. Hey Diana,
Yes, I think they would still be beneficial. The diffuser is good for the air you breathe in your home.
I do use them some internally. I put lemon in my water.
I’m also super excited NingXia Red. It’s a powerful antioxidant drink that contains whole Ningxia wolfberry puree—a super blend of blueberry, aronia, cherry, pomegranate, and plum juices, natural stevia extract, grape seed extract, pure vanilla extract, and orange, yuzu, lemon, and tangerine essential oils. Its health benefits include support from head to toe, via a whole body nutrient infusion.
    Here’s the page http://www.youngliving.com/en_US/products/wellness/energy-stamina/new-ningxia-red
This is only offered through Young Living and it’s one of the reasons I wanted to switch!!
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cyndi

  20. Hey Cyndi, Just curious, I have absolutely no sense of smell anymore, car accident when I was younger, so would essential oils be of any benefit do you think? Are any taken internally or are all just soothing scents that effect the senses that way?
