Fashion Friday-Business Casual

Happy Friday! Since I’ve been reading your comments about my 31 Days of Summer Fashion, several of you have mentioned needing help with the business casual look.

I’m going to be putting together some business casual outfits during my 31 days but I found some of these on Pinterest and thought I’d share them with you.

I created this set on polyvore two years ago, but I still like it.

I never shop at Talbots but I think I need to!

Banana Republic is a little pricey but they have great end of the season sales. They have clothes that are perfect for a business casual look.

I might be crazy, but here we go! Starting July 1st I’ll be sharing 31 days of Summer Fashion.

  1. Love these outfits! I need you to come and go through my closet with me! Keep your great posts coming Cyndi

  2. Business casual varies widely. I’m going out on a limb and define it for a *more conservative* environment:
    IMHO,
    1. It should cover as much skin as business professional. Therefore, sandals, shorter pants, sleeveless, etc., are out.
    2. Quality and condition should be in the same range as business professional, so cheap fabrics or fit, old and “tired” are out.
    3. Grooming should be consistent with business professional, i.e., pressed, clean, good fit is still necessary.

The formula I came up with is:
~More casual jacket or sweater that is still conservative and good quality +
~Top that is good quality and suitable for under a jacket +
~Pants that are full length — can be blue jeans if in good condition and can be straight leg, but watch out for too tight +
~Shoes can show a bit more than the full coverage pumps, but would not be described as strappy nor as f**** me shoes (too high).

Always look at what the president or executives wear as business casual. That is the guideline in your business that you should follow.

Never wear something as business casual that you could wear to a picnic or to clean the bathroom (yes, I’ve seen it). That is someone who missed the memo at any company.

Never wear too high shoes or shoes with much of a platform. They make you walk different….kind of like you’ve been hobbled. Appropriate on a slave, but not on an adult, competent woman.

That all is for a very conservative environment….perhaps someone could define their boundaries for other business environments?

  3. I love Talbots!!! Love, love love the store!!!! It used to have fashions for a more mature age group and I was not too fond of that. In the past few years, they have fashions which are great for the younger group like us. Wait until they have a sale….can get some great fashions for a great price.

  4. All the outfits are super cute and completely appropriate for my workplace. Love the colors and the minimal accessories. I so love summer fashion! Thanks for the great ideas! Looking forward to 31 consecutive dayside fashion ideas! Yay!

  5. Thank you for this post! I’m going to France with my husband on a business trip in a few weeks. The dress is business casual for our activities; my daughter and I were just talking last night about what I should wear. This is very helpful since I don’t work I don’t get to see what other women wear to work.
