Time is precious. We are fragile. Life is short.

Time is precious. We are fragile. Life is short.
I was reminded again how fragile life is. I was scanning Facebook when I read that one of my childhood friends had passed away. It took my breath away.

I kept reading it over and over thinking someone was going to say it wasn’t true. Although we hadn’t seen each other in years, we connected a lot through Facebook.

It seems like yesterday we had played together, laughed together, talked about boys, and dreamed about what it would be like to be married. Her life was snatched away too soon.

My husband and I went to the visitation and I was surrounded by friends I had not seen in years. I was taken back in time to some of the most precious memories of my childhood.

I longed for those carefree days. I longed to live with my Mom and Dad and sister and brother again. That season of my life seemed to go by in the blink of an eye.

Time is precious. We are fragile. Life is short. Eternity is long. Every minute counts. -John Piper

Scripture tells us this in James 4:14, Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

None of us know what tomorrow holds but one thing I do know is that I need to spend my time wisely. Life is a gift.

I want to love deeply, forgive quickly, and run daily to Christ.

One of the best things for us to do is spend time in God’s word. That is an investment that will last through eternity.

Tomorrow my sister and I begin a new Bible study called Love Like Him. I would love for you to join us!

Time is precious. We are fragile. Life is short.
This is an online Bible study so to hold each other accountable, we’ve created a private Facebook group. You can request to join our private Love Like Him Facebook group HERE(We will not be adding anyone else to the Facebook group after tomorrow so we can all start and go through the study at the same time.)

You can download the study HERE. (It’s only $2.99) If you have any questions, email me at contactcyndispivey@gmail(dot)com.

Lastly, I heard this song by Third Day this week and the words are powerful. Enjoy!!

Let’s be a soul on fire! Have a blessed day!

  1. Cindy,I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, I loss a dear friend a week ago myself. She was a dear sister in Christ. A survivor of total kidney failure, at age 16, of over 50 years. It was not that which took her but her body gave out after decades of the drugs that kept her 4 kidney transplants over the years. The sad part is we lost contact with each other when I moved 1,500 miles away. Now hearing of her going home to be with the Lord and reading this article of yours…life is so short, so fleeting. We need to make time for those who are special in our lives,,family, friends, strangers on the street, and people who are different than us…the Lord did…he calls us to also. Like you said time is short and fragile let’s cherish every gift he gives us each day, including our friends and loved ones standing before Him now. Not to minimize, but to share in your grief, My baby daughter went home to be with the Lord 18 years ago also, before taking her first breathe. God is good through it all.

  2. I’m sorry for your loss, Cyndy. I keep thinking of that verse as I approach 60 years old – wow, life sure went fast! I know I probably have many more years, but – 60 (in 5 years)??!! Me? I still feel like I’m 20 years old.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. Thank you for reminding me how precious life is. Always live like it’s your last, and never take it for granted. Prayers for your friend’s family and for you.

  4. I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend, Cyndi. Praying God fills you with comfort. Even those we don’t spend a lot of time with have an impact on us and their absence hurts. Thank you for sharing this sweet and necessary message today. I am so blessed by your daily encouragement to be a beautiful godly woman, inside and out.

  5. Cyndi,
I just attended funerals for two childhood best friends’ mothers. I felt the same things you were saying. Sitting in my old childhood church, , seeing how we are all a little older. Where did the time go? I think of fresh cut grass and player Red Rover send …..over in the preacher’s back yard. My take away was to send sympathy notes to my friends and their sibblings recounting a childhood memory of their late mother. In honor of Valentines Day I have personally in some way through a phone call , email or private Facebook message or face to face contact shared with all my friends how much they have meant to me growing up and to the new ones how much they mean now. I have never felt more blessed and happy since doing this. I also changed my ringtone to Will Pharrell’s Happy for my friends’ ringtone. When my phone rings I smile because I know a friend is calling and I am blessed. You always touch me with your posts. Sorry for the loss of your friend.

  6. So sorry, Cyndi. Hard losing a friend and esp at a young age. Just helps us see how valuable people are & that we should treat them as if each day is our last with them.

  7. It’s always so much sadder when that person is young. Remember the good times and even in your saddest moments it will put a smile on your face. It is a reminder to all of us to live every day to the fullest. To tell those close to us that we love them.

  8. I’m so sorry for your loss. I just lost a friend recently and found out another has stage 4 cancer. Your words really touched me today. Life is a gift. And we need to live each day and love each day.

  9. Prayers for you and all who loved the friend you have lost. Thank you for this articulate reminder that we should not take life or the people in our lives for granted!

  10. So sorry about your friend. Your words were just beautiful. I have often wished I could go back just for one day to when I was little and it was my parents, my brother and I. Since my dad is gone I would hug him and tell him how much I loved him even if I didn’t show it all the time. Although dementia has really taken my mother from me, I can physically kiss her and tell her I love her. We truly need to enjoy every single day!
