Sunday Encouragement-Facing Life Storms

March is usually the beginning of warmer air which causes some instability in our weather around here. One week, we can have a snow storm and the next week thunderstorms. I’m always amazed at how quickly a storm can pop up.

Life storms are the same way. They can pop up quickly! Death, financial difficulties, family issues, marital problems, a health crisis~~all of these can be scary life storms.

As I was reading my scripture this morning I read Mark 4:39, He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

No matter what storms in life come our way, Jesus is in control.

Sunday Encouragement-Facing The Storm
I had written some notes in my Bible about life storms.

  • Storms are inevitable! We all have them and we need to be prepared by spending time with the One who can help us.
  • Storms are unpredictable. One day everything can be sunny and perfect and the next day we have a crisis. So where do we turn?
  • Storms are impartial. He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45
  • Storms build our strength. I don’t know about you but the times I’ve grown the closest to Christ are through the storms. The storms in my life have changed me and made me realize how much I need a Savior.
  • We need to be in the boat with Jesus. Okay, we know storms will come so the best place to be is with Him. Maybe the boat doesn’t seem safe to us but if Jesus is there that’s right where we need to be.

I don’t like the storms but I know it’s a part of this journey and I choose to face them with Jesus.

Are you facing any storms today? How do you handle life storms?

This song by Phillips, Craig, and Dean is a good reminder that we need Jesus. Enjoy!

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Maybe my all time favorite post. Love the notes from your Bible and think I will place in mine. I have been through many storms in my life and the recipient of one grace and miracle after another. It’s hard to hang in but somehow we always do and it always turns out ok.

  2. Thank you for your encouragement! I needed this, last week a storm hit our family and I am constantly reminding myself that God is going to get us through this. “Lord I Need You” by Chris Thomlin is my constant prayer right now.

  3. Hi Cindy, the ONLY way to get through a storm in life is run to Father who protects us under the shelter of His wings. On Boxing Day 2012 I lost my father unexpectedly, we were extremely close but he wasn’t saved, that I know of. Six to nine months before hand whilst taking a shower (not that you need to know that!) our Holy Spirit quietly spoke to me saying “unless Dad dies”. I was horrified because I couldn’t bare the thought of loosing him. Of course Father knows everything and when I look back on it now, it was perfect. From the moment he passed there was a sense of peace and comfort that only He can supply. Everyone who came to our home including our Pastor all commented about the beautiful peaceful presence in our home. Ten months later (end of October2013) we lost my Grandmother and four days after that my youngest Uncle who was only 8 years older than me, like an older brother. Again the only place to get comfort, peace and strength is Father. He is always there for us, if we go to Him.
Tomorrow my Dads house settles after selling it, again that was another mircle the way it all happen and a great witness to my unsaved brother. The real estate market is very slow here but Dads house sold in 4 days after 3 groups of people went through, all 3 put in offers, all 3 increased their offers and we settled for $2500 less than the asking price. There were so many other “coincidences” that happened, my brother can’t deny it now and through this I feel he will be saved. Praise God

  4. Thank you for this post, Cyndi. We are having stormy weather in our family and by the way it seems, it is going to be stormy for quite some time. Like you said, hopefully, I will become stronger out of this. A lot of prayers have been said and I know many more will be said before the peace and calm will come. Again, thank you for the encouraging words.

  5. Cyndi:
This was beautiful and profound. I entered the largest storm of my life when my husband died unexpectedly in January. But every day since, I have sensed the presence and provision of Jesus. I can and do live through anything with him. And as tears rolled today, I realized a truth about what we experienced when my husband was alive: every negative trait of his brought out a strength in me, and vice versa. Through the storms, we became stronger, I became stronger. Because we were not alone, and I am not alone now. Jesus is with me in the storm.

    1. To Gina, I just wanted to say God Bless You. With such a wonderful attitude this storm will not get the best of you. Praying for you now 🙂

  6. Beautiful words today. Our family is in the midst of this exact storm season and it feels so out of control. You just want to help your adult children from making mistakes and remind them their marriage might not always be smooth but their covenant with God is strong. We pray for God’s will and lift them up in prayer. I have to remind myself several times a day that God is in control.

  7. You are so true about the storms and turning to Jesus! I just learned a friend lost her only son this morning in a car accident! My heart just aches for her. But I turned to Jesus! Thank you for this blog, I needed it just now! Many blessings!!

  8. Beautiful reminder of how we need to be prepared for the storms that are coming! With Jesus on our side, who can be against us? Even in the storms we will prevail!

  9. Great post today Cyndi. Thanks for the words of encouragement along with a good dose of reality. Enjoy your day!

  10. Love this post. So very true. It is so easy to forget…thanks for sharing. On the bottom of your post, there were past posts you did. I reread the one about gel nails vs acrylic nails. I love nice nails too but don’t want to pay the amount of money for the upkeep. I bought a led lamp and nail kit which was abut $100 and I do my own. Huge savings over time. Very easy to do. I also put clear on and then I put regular nail polish over so that I can vary my colors. Worked for me. .
