Question and Answers! April 2015

Well, the weather is not cooperating to take pictures so I’m going to have to wait and finish my 28 Days of Spring Fashion.

Today I thought I would do some Q & A on clean eating and trying to stay healthy at 40 and beyond.

1. Are you still clean eating and what do you eat on a daily basis?

I get this question a lot and the answer is yes I’m still clean eating. Everything I eat is not organic. I would say it’s 65 to 70% clean and the rest is not. I would love to be 100% but I’m not there yet.

I have come a long way from how I use to eat. My daughter asked me last week if I had bought my favorite chocolate Easter candy. I LOVE these Hershey candy coated milk chocolate eggs. Oh. my. goodness!

Question and Answers! April 2015
In the past I would have eaten about 10 bags by now. I would buy extra bags and put them in the freezer. I did not buy one bag this year. As a matter of fact, I hadn’t even thought about it until Courtney asked me about them. Wow!

To satisfy my sweet tooth, I make these energy bites all the time. My daughter and I both love them.

2. What do you eat on a daily basis?

Well, I hate to say it, but I’m boring with what I eat. I was looking at my “clean eating” Pinterest boards and I need to make some of those recipes.

I typically eat Kashi cereal for breakfast (right now I’m drinking Shakeology), I eat a salad for lunch or sometimes I will grab a couple of tablespoons of organic peanut butter and that’s it. It depends on my day. I need to expand my lunch options.

For dinner, it’s usually a meat and a vegetable. Part of that is because my husband has been dieting. He’s lost over 30 pounds and looks great!

We eat sautéed brussel sprouts, baked cauliflower, baked veggies. I cut up peppers, onions, zucchini, and tomatoes, toss in salt pepper and olive oil and bake in the oven. It’s easy and healthy.

We rarely eat bread, unless we’re eating a hamburger but that’s not very often.

I recently purchased the NutriBullet Blender by Magic Bullet and I love it!! I don’t know how I lived without it. 🙂

Question and Answers! April 2015
I have been blending all kinds of shakes. I keep kale in the freezer (did you know you could freeze kale?) and add it to most of my shakes. I add fruit, chai seeds, almond milk, greek yogurt, etc.

3. What basic pieces should I have in my wardrobe?

I have talked about this quite a bit. (I did a wardrobe challenge here and you can still purchase it.)

You need a good core wardrobe and then each season add a few trendy pieces. I love this ShopBop workwear edition. These pieces are timeless and can be worn through several seasons.

Question and Answers! April 2015
I’d like to do Q & A a little more often. What other questions do you have?

I’m so honored that you have taken time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’d love for you to subscribe to my blog through email. You can also follow me on social media. I’m on FacebookInstagram and Pinterest!

Beauty For the Heart~~My husband and I had a discussion about clothes last night. We were talking about how we should dress and although we want to look nice, Christ is more concerned about how we love.

These verses in Colossians are a perfect example:

You are God’s chosen people. You are holy and dearly loved. So put on tender mercy and kindness as if they were your clothes. Don’t be proud. Be gentle and patient. Put up with one another. Forgive one another if you are holding something against someone. Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you. And over all these good things put on love. Love holds them all together perfectly as if they were one. Colossians 3:12-14

Let’s clothe ourselves in mercy, kindness and love today!

Have a blessed day!

  1. I bought a Nutribullet a year ago. I like to blend spinach, a small apple, a small banana, 2 tablespoons ground flax seed, a cup of frozen berries and almond milk. A month ago I started the Daniel Plan at church on Wed evenings. This is not a diet, but a lifestyle change. Lots of clean eating with no processed foods. I try to buy all organic when I can. Having a whole foods market near by has been nice. Since starting the Daniel Plan, I feel so much more energized and have actually lost a little weight. Cyndi, there’s a recipe that I make that’s similiar to the energy bites called power bites. I find myself reading labels when shopping and if it has over 5 ingredients listed, I normally put it back on the shelf!!

  2. When you say you eat a salad at lunch does it include protein? Just wondering what’s in it. You look great!

  3. Wow, this is a very informative blog and I sure do thank you for posting it. My sis was asking me last week if I have seen the NutriBullet Blender? I haven’t but I think I will look it up on line. I have the Champion Juicer, The Jack LaLanne’s Power Juicer and the Vita mix…. but this NutriBullet Blender looks awesome too and portable for our traveling.
Congrats to your husband on his losing weight and congrats to you on resisting that delicious chocolate!!! I love chocolate and it is one of my vices I have to clean up a little better.
The winter always puts a few extra pounds on me, so now I am nearing my 100% raw eating again, but not there just yet.
Keep up the excellent clean eating!! It will pay off in the end! I know you will be bombed with all kinds of web sites to look up .. but here is the first one that sent me on to clean eating…. and his facilities are awesome and close to us and with Christian beliefs! http://www.myhdiet.com/

  4. Here’s a recipe to try. I love it!
1 1/2-2 zucchini, shredded (I use the Veggeti to shred)
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
Garlic powder, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes to taste
    Drizzle of olive oil
    Crumbled feta cheese
    Mix all and enjoy!

  5. I just had to laugh out loud when you mentioned the Hershey’s Eggs. They have been my favorite for years now. Somehow I knew they would be your favorite too–you have such good taste. :-). I think we would be very good friends if we lived closer. We seem to have a lot in common–both preacher’s wife who love The Lord, love our family, love fashion, and love Hershey Eggs. Actually, I was pretty good this year too; I only bought one bag of Hershey Eggs. (I had to search all up and down the candy aisles to find them.) And, I shared the one bag with my family. 🙂 Maybe next year I’ll be able to resist the temptation like you, and not buy them at all. We will see!!!!

  6. Hi Cyndi: So glad I stumbled upon your blog a few months ago. A few questions:
    1. Any idea how many calories you consume per day?
    2. If you didn’t watch what you eat would you be one to gain easily or are you a lucky one that’s naturally thin?
    3. Do you try to stop eating at a certain time each evening or just eat whenever?
    Thanks, Michelle

  7. hey Cyndi~ I’v been trying to think of a question all day to ask you, but I came up with nothing! 😉 You always do such a great job at answering/sharing anyway so I couldn’t think of anything special. But, as I’m typing, the only thing I thought of to ask was about your makeup/hair days. You had made a comment about possibly sharing on Tues/Thurs makeup/hair etc and then Mon/Wed/Fri fashion. Are you still planning on that or did you change your mind? Hope you are adjusting well having Colt living with you…he’s so cute I’m sure it’s alway FUN!! 😉 God bless and thanks in advance for your answer.

  8. Cyndi,

I love your faithfulness to the Lord. Just the simple fact that you are more concerned about what the Lord thinks vs how you dress-you keep it all in perspective. It’s so tempting to just throw caution to the wind when it comes to fashion and beauty and not give a thought to what we should really be putting on~like the full Armor of God. You always remind us that our walk is first and foremost. I love when you take “breaks” from fashion and just focus on the Lord. I’m so thankful to have landed on your blog long ago. Thanks for keeping Him first and always pointing us back to Him in all ways. Love your desire to eat clean…I’m still working on it and taking baby steps! Blessings, Wendy

  9. What is shakeology? Also I have seen yoy mention the 21 day fitness challenge, I think, what is that? Do you cook every night and when you cook do you fix for Brook and Colton or just you and your husband? A lot of questions I know I have an adult daughter who is divorced and she has moved in with us and she has our two grandchildren so just curious how you are handling having adult children at home again.

  10. I love my Nutri Bullet. I’m drinking a “nutrablast” even as I’m reading this. I highly recommend them. Looking forward to Day 28. 🙂

  11. Hello again Cyndi! Don’t know why but I never realized you were a pastor’s wife. Although I’m not in the ministry “full-time”, my dad was a pastor for 35 years (he went to be with the Lord 2 years ago) and I am the pianist at our church and a Sunday School teacher for the Teens. I agree with what you said about “clothing” – I do my best to dress modestly (but not matronly), but modesty starts from the inside. I’m afraid some folks go to one extreme or the other…either put too much emphasis on clothing, or not enough. 🙂 Pleasing God in ALL areas of my life is my #1 priority.

  12. I love posts like this. I’m a salad eater in the summer, but not much otherwise. Also, I’ve moved my blog to a new place with a new name, I’d love for you to stop by!

  13. Cyndi…what type of smoothies do you make in your nutri bullet or how do you use it to get the most use out of it? Will you continue on the Shakeology after you finish the 21 day fix program? I love energy bites and it does help to satisfy a sweet craving. Wish I could say that I was able to stay away from the Easter candy 🙁 Good for you for not even buying it. Love your blog !

    1. Hey Sammie! I make fruit smoothies most of the time. I throw in different fruits, add some kale and almond milk. That’s my go to smoothie. 🙂
I may not continue the Shakeology. I drink Ningxia Red with Young Living and I it’s my favorite. I can’t really afford both.
I will continue the beachbody exercises.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  14. I am a retired stay at home woman. Could you show a clothing capsule of more casual, relaxed home wardrobe. It is much different since I am not in the workforce any longer.

    Thanks, Dee

  15. Good morning Cyndi, some questions:
As an almost empty nester, what are some fun date nights you have with your hubby.
Thanks for your answers above about your church, fashion, and blogging. I feel like sometimes I’m being criticized for dressing well by some women, at church in particular. I love fashion and putting together fun outfits, it’s my thing. You and Allusin Lumbatis have made he feel awesome that it’s even ok to still care at our ages! How do you deal with criticism?
I joined the first Bible study you did with your sis, but it was wayyyy out of my league, will you consider more studies?
When you have a few hours what’s your favorite place to just walk around end shop? Or what stores would they be?
What’s the thing you are most drawn to and have oo much if in your closet?

    1. OH gosh we laugh all the time about our date nights. They always seem to include a visit to the hospital or a funeral visitation (it’s ministry life).
We love to go out to dinner. We both love a good movie and sometimes we like to just go for a drive. We also don’t mind staying home, we stay so busy that a date night at home is always nice.

We also love water! When the weather is warm, I love to go for a boat ride with my husband on his boat.

As far as criticism, I don’t love it, but I handle it much better than I use to. With the internet people can say whatever they want and they don’t seem to care there is a real person behind the screen. I realize by having a fashion blog, I’m going to get criticism.
If it’s someone at church, I’ve learned to love them but let it go! I can’t please everyone but I do have to please God.

If I have a few hours, I love to shop for home decor. I don’t feel like I get to do that as much as I use to. I love Hobby Lobby and I could stay in there for hours.

I’m drawn to white shirts and blouses. I don’t know what it is, but I could buy a white blouse every week!!

      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  16. Good Morning Cyndi! I noticed on the Weather Channel last night that Kentucky is having weather issues. Praying for things to calm down. We LOVE our Nutribullet also, we’ve had ours a month or so. And I love your energy bites recipe, i added a little unsweetened coconut this last time. Thank you for your fashion tips & I always enjoy the from the heart! Have a blessed day 🙂

  17. Hi Cindi – I just found your blog yesterday and signed up. We have similar hair, a shared love of Hershey coated eggs and I have used my Nutribullet for over 2 yrs. almost every morning. Love my healthy shakes. Question: What is your workout routine? You look great!

    1. Hey Sue! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Right now I’m doing a 21 Day fix by Beachbody. I am loving this exercise routine!!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  18. Hm, questions, questions. I LOVE asking questions.

How did you get started with this blog?

Interesting the conversation with you and your husband. I think about this often. I remember having a conversation with my mom, back in my 20s, about how dressing nice, besides being nice for your SELF, is a sort of gift for the people who have to look at you. Ha! I had to agree. Of course, that has to be taken within reason, and she would be the FIRST to agree, too, that LOVE is the most important gift we can give other people.

I guess I’m curious how your pastor husband and his congregation have accepted your fashion blog. I think it’s great, but I can imagine there are critics! (just because I know the church and the Internet and there are ALWAYS critics).

Really love what you’re doing here, Cyndi. Keep up the good work!

    Lori

    1. Hey Lori,
I answered the blogging question here http://cyndispivey.com/about-me/frequently-asked-questions/. It took me a few years to figure out what I wanted to blog about but I finally think I have a good niche.

As far as our congregation, I’m sure there are critics but truthfully no one ever says anything to me about blogging.
I rarelyt talk about my blog at church unless someone asks me about it.

I would think that half of our church doesn’t even know I blog.

I don’t post pics on my personal Facebook page and I don’t ask people at church to follow my blog.
I consider my blog my business and it’s a part of our family’s income. I hope that makes sense!
      Thanks for asking,
      Cyndi
