Weight Loss With Medifast

I wanted to share about my husband’s weight loss journey he’s been on over the last several months. There are hundreds of ways to lose weight and it’s important to pick the way that’s best for you.

Wayne needed to lose at least 30 pounds. We had been talking about it for a while and he could not get motivated. I was of course nagging him about it.

We decided to try Medifast. Medifast is a disciplined plan (which is works best for Wayne, he couldn’t just cut back). You get to eat every two hours. Your daily diet will incorporate a mix of Medifast meal replacements and real food — keeping you satisfied while you lose weight.

Wayne has a high stress job (senior pastor) has had a grandfather who passed away from a heart attack and he takes medication for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Yikes!

(Wayne and I are as different as night and day when it comes to eating. I love to eat healthy and he, well, he loves fried everything. He eats healthy as long as I fix it for him. He’s notorious for sneaking and eating junk food behind my back!)

Here is Wayne before he began Medifast. I have no idea why he couldn’t smile but he said he was supposed to look sad. I think he was dreading what was coming. This picture was taken in February 2015.

This is Wayne now after being on the Medifast diet for around 3 months. His starting weight was 208 and he now weighs 175. He’s lost around 33 pounds. He is much happier!

Here are the before and after pictures side by side. He was wearing a size 38 jeans and he’s now wearing a size 34.

It’s amazing the difference! He feels so much better!!

Wayne did a great job and was committed to the program. Partly because we spent money on the food and once we did that there was no going back!

He liked that you can eat every two hours. You get one meal a day called the Lean and Green meal that you fix yourself (I fixed it for him). You can use organic meat and vegetables which I like. 🙂

Several of you have emailed me and said you need to lose 20 to 30 pounds so I wanted to share this option with you. I have a friend who is a health coach for Medifast and she helped us so much. We could not have done it without her!

Here is her information: Heather Patterson, heatherpattersonhealthcoach@gmail.com. She also has a Facebook page.

I have shared a about my eating habits. I also exercise using Beachbody called the 21 Day Fix.

I would love to hear if you have tried a program and how it worked. Have you tried Medifast?

I’m so honored that you have taken time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’d love for you to subscribe to my blog through email. You can also follow me on social media. I’m on FacebookInstagram and Pinterest!

  1. Hi Cyndi, I’m getting ready to start the Medifast program and just wandered if Wayne has kept his weight off and was it hard to adjust once he finished the program

    1. He has gained some of his weight back but he is not as heavy as he was when he started the program. If definitely helped him and I think he would recommend it.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  2. Wow, his results are fantastic! Way to go! He probably added 20 years to his life by dropping those pounds.

  3. Congrats to him! But, Cyndi, is your clothing budget going to take a hit since Wayne needs new, smaller clothes? 🙂

  4. Hi Cyndi,
Great Job Bro Wayne!! Congrats to you. Losing any amount of weight is an accomplishment!!

  5. Cyndi,
Wow! Congrats to Wayne! My husband needs to do this. He loves his snacks and sweets though but 20 pounds of them?? Please! I am signing my man up for this.
    Thanks for sharing this!
    Kim

  6. I am glad for your husbands weight loss success. How did he handle times when you were invited to others homes or out to eat?
    Thank you

    1. Bonnie,

We think it’s all about moderation! Just plan to eat a healthy meal choice when at a restaurant – there’s so many options with salads, etc.

      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  7. Congratulations to Wayne! Changing your eating habits is easier said than done. A suggested read is “It starts with food”. Good info and it explains how your body processes food and which foods to avoid. We don’t follow everything said but we are mindful of what we eat. Would also suggest slow motion weight training. It builds muscle mass and does not create bulging muscles – slow controlled movement with heavy weights not fast movement with lighter weights. Another benefit is muscle burns more calories when you are resting – which is a nice bonus.

  8. Congratulations to Wayne for sticking with it and having such great success. I know this has to put your mind at ease regarding his health. Losing weight is one thing , but maintenance is the hardest. Wishing him great motivation and success for this next stage of the journey!

  9. Good work. Now comes the hard part, keeping it off!!! Need to change previous habits.

  10. Hi Cyndi.

Great job finding something that worked for Wayne! 🙂

    Here’s what worked for me:

    1. Logging my calories on My Fitness Pal gave me the awareness I needed.
    2. Exercising (cardio and weights)
This helped me lose about 30 pounds, but I was a skinny fat. So I started lifting heavier weights and dropped my cardio time. As we age, it is important to have muscle mass, so I lift to gain muscle. I eat a clean diet, high in protein. I do still allow for the occasional treat. I don’t think I will ever give up sugar completely. 🙂

Where a lot of us fail is the calories in versus calories out mentality. True, if we eat less than we burn, we will lose weight. Problem is even if we are exercising, we may not look fit. Tony Horton said it best, and I’m paraphrasing…”you cannot out exercise a bad diet.” I have learned that the hard way. Now I eat a lot of calories and protein from good, clean food. I lift heavy weights, and I do less cardio. As women, we often take care of ourselves last, but if we do not take care of ourselves, we cannot take care of loved ones.

Sleep first. Without sleep, cortisol levels are too high.
    Clean diet next.
    Exercise third.

Of course, this is totally my opinion and no one has to listen. It is what works for me. 🙂

Good luck to all and great job to Wayne. Thanks for sharing.

  11. I’ve taken off 45 lbs with Atkins and maintained now for a year. I am in my normal BMI and originally wanted to lose 10 more but it just isn’t budging, thank you very much menopause!!! However, I am happy where I am, but I do have to be very mindful all the time, if there’s a secret to this, that is it!

  12. Aren’t our “boys” funny!!! They crack me up – the ideas they come up with ? – pass along how proud we all are of him, any weight loss program takes a lot of hard work and dedication to stick to the plan, and then a promise/contract with ourselves to continue with our newly learned good habits for a lifetime. I grew up on a farm, so we always ate beautiful healthy fruits and vegetables from our own garden. The nearest “fast food” was 80 miles one way – so that was not an option, plus when we went into town to the cafe, it was one of my friend’s Mom’s cooking food like we all ate at home. I really do feel that eliminating processed foods and sugars from our diets is SO important, and doing some kind of daily exercise. As I get older I have found that I do need to be mindful of my slowing metabolism and our hormonal changes, but I have been able to maintain my weight all through my decades (so far)!!

  13. I definitely need to lose weight, I take an estrogen blocking medicine that unfortunately causes weight gain, I have gained 25 lbs. in a year, thanks for sharing Cyndi, your husband looks great I know you are so proud of him:)

  14. Weight Watchers style points worked for me. I did it on my own with a free app on my tablet. I lost 30 lbs. and I have promised myself that I won’t gain it back.

      1. I averaged a pound a week. The best thing to me was I didn’t have to totally give up anything. With a little planning, you can accommodate almost anything.

  15. That is awesome! Good work Wayne. Not only do you look happier but even younger! Good health really pays off. You are an inspiration.

  16. Weight Watchers worked for me at age 53 – like magic. I slowly (6 months?) lost almost 20 pounds and couldn’t even figure out what I was doing different other than paying $20/month and keeping track of my “points”! LOL I’ve gained about 8 pounds back and am trying to think HOW I lost that original 20 – don’t want to go back to paying! I think it was the **mindfulness** – which I can practice for free with free My Fitness Pal (or a notebook) and then smaller portions and saying “no” once in a while.

  17. I agree with the other ladies, Wayne was a nice looking man before, but he looks even better now. Congratulations! I was on Weight Watchers many years ago. I lost weight but was never really happy with the recipes, didn’t really like going to meetings or having to weigh in every mo th, nor was my family. Since Cushings Disease, Weight Watchers does not work for me. I am now taking one Raspberry Ketone a day and somewhat following the Atkins program. I can tell some inches are dwindling away even though I still cannot do any activity since I’m still recovering from extensive ankle surgery.

  18. Wow, Cyndi! Tell Wayne congrats! He looks awesome! My husband also just lost about 30 pounds. He wanted to do it for health reasons as well, and he used the T25 workout program along with a change in diet. You don’t realize how much your body changes as you age and how much your metabolism slows down. We’re both trying to be much healthier in our choices now. Thanks for sharing Wayne’s journey. What an inspiration!

  19. I ran across “The Daniel Plan” from Rick Warren’s Saddleback church a couple of years ago. It’s all about clean eating around the pillars of faith, food, focus, fitness and friends. There is a 6 week Bible Study that I have taken 3 different groups through. I just love it, and get something new every time. I have also recently read “Trim Healthy Mama.” Another good lifestyle program.

  20. Good for your hubby! He was handsome before but looks even better. Y’all make an adorable couple!!!
I need to drop about 40 lbs – I’m 38 years old, and I do NOT want to take medicine or have high blood pressure or become diabetic. It’s not so much about how I look anymore 😉 I’ve just been walking every day and cutting back on sweet tea – I can tell a difference from just those small changes.

  21. Cyndi,
We seem to be a lot alike. I do Shakeology and the 21 Day Fix exercise plan as well. I think it is so important to stay healthy and eat clean, especially as we age. Good job for your husband on his weight loss. It’s hard to take off weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle, but so worth it!

    1. I love the 21 day fix and the shakeology!! It’s a better fit for me than Wayne. 🙂 Although I’m trying to get him to do some of the exercising.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  22. I don’t know anything about Medifast—-what happens when you stop using it? Does the weight come back? How does this program manage that aspect? That’s my only concern–I don’t want to put all the work into losing weight using a program only to have it come right back when I stop using the program.

Also–the most noticable thing for me in the pictures was the difference in Wayne’s neck. Both the front and back of his neck changed drastically from the before to after. The neck seems like a hard play to lose weight but it was really noticable on Wayne.

That’s so great that he’ll feel better and feel more self-confident just in time for the summer season! He’ll enjoy the season more hopefully!

    1. Jennifer~as a former health coach with Take Shape for Life using Medifast products(I stopped for personal reasons but years later still contact my free coach when I need a boost!) utilizing a free coach is your best bet! “Take Shape for Life”using Medifast products is such a great way to go. Medifast meals are a tool that you use to take your weight off but Take Shape for Life is so much more! It teaches you healthy habits like eating healthy with “real” food, exercising, even adapting your sleeping habits! and you learn how to keep the weight off for good! I would encourage you to contact Cyndi’s friend Heather Patterson(referenced in an above post) and talk to her! It really does work!! Blessings to
      You!

    2. Hi Jennifer,
We noticed his neck too. He’s definitely gone down a couple of shirt sizes.
There is a maintenance plan with the Take Shape For Life like Karen mentioned. The goal is obviously to keep the weight off.
Heather is a great health coach!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  23. Way to go, Wayne!! I have a couple friend that tried Medifast a while back and have had very good results!! They look great!!! Thank you for sharing!!

  24. Wow! Wayne looks awesome! Good job! I have used Weight Watchers in the past and loved it. They no longer offer meetings in my town, which was a great support group. I so enjoyed the other women and what they had to share. Keep up the good work Wayne!

  25. Cyndi – Back last year in 2014, I was the biggest I had ever been and was miserable! I had tried to lose weight on my own, but I didn’t have anyone to hold me accountable for my actions! So, for the umpteenth time I failed once again! In September 2014, I decided to join Weight Watchers! I love the small group setting and the weekly meetings that hold me accountable for my OWN actions! What I have learned through Weight Watchers is to eat healthier and make wiser food choices. On my own, I changed my way of thinking about food! Instead of grabbing cookies or bags of chips when I am hungry, I now eat lots and lots of fruit! I don’t eat out anymore – unless it is a very special occasion. Whole wheats are a major role in my diet now! Plus, vegetables and protein like grilled chicken! I only drink water – and lots of it! Plus, I will sneak in your famous “energy bites” every now and then! I hate to exercise!!!!!!! But, since the weather is now warmer I have started walking 5 to 6 days per week. What I have discovered about this walking is that I love to be outdoors this time of year and experience all of the new life that God has brought back into this world after our horrible winter! I have lost a total of 41 pounds and I feel so much better! I still have 34 more to lose, but I know that I can do it! Weight Watchers is working for me! I am glad Wayne has been successful! He looks great and I know he feels better too!

    1. Kim,
I just want to congratulate you on your success. I’m glad you discovered walking; I love walking too and seeing all the wonderful things God has made. Keep up the good work!

  26. wow!! Wayne looks great!! Congrats to you Wayne! I’m chuckling a little with his comment about having to “look sad” in his before pictures…so funny 😉 He does look so much happier in the after photos!! Thx for sharing!!

  27. I’m very happy for your husband. But my comment is about your rug in your dining room. Do you remember where you purchased it? I’m in love with it.
