The Open Front Cardigan

Open-front-cardiganI am working on my 26 Days of Fall Fashion coming up in September. I think it’s going to be super fun and I’m getting excited about a lot of the fall styles.

One piece that is going to be a fall must have for me is an open front cardigan. These cardigans are a layering dream and can make any outfit pop.

They are also a great item to have for the in between season. Add one of the lighter weight open cardignas to a white top and jeans and it’s a perfect pre-fall outfit.

I have picked out some of my favorites for the season!

Beauty For the Heart~~“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10

Being still is not my nature. If I’m being still I feel I’m being lazy but scripture says we need to be still.

Still, if only for a moment, and listen for His voice. He will provide the needed wisdom, patience, guidance, and love we need to carry on.

Have a blessed day!

  1. I already bought the Blanket Cardigan with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and have bought a waterfall burgandy cardigan from American Eagle. I can’t wait for your 28 days of Fall Fashion. I love, love, love fall clothes, the boots, the sweaters, cardis, the smells and the cooler temperatures. I follow your blog every day and can’t wait to see what kind of outfits you put together for fall.

  2. I love all of them!! I have most of these styles already so I can’t wait to see how you style them! I just usually wear a plain shirt underneath and sometimes throw a scarf on. Love your daily scripture ❤️

  3. I bought a few cardigans last year and wore them often. I love the longer styles you show here but as I’m only 5ft 3 I have to be careful as it could look like coat!l lol not ready for fall….

  4. I’m loving that Shadow Stripe Duster! It’s a cardigan type sweater I can wear even on my 5’2″ frame. The lines are great and it is someting a bit more “edgy” and on trned than the always good boyfriend cardigan. I can’t believe how quickly the summer has past, but with the heat and humidity we’ve had this summer, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m looking forward to some cooler weather.
Besides, I’ve always like Fall-Winter clothes better thatn Spring/Summer clothes.

    1. Oops! I accidentally referred to the Shadow Stripe Cardigan instead of the Waterfall Open Cardigan. It’s the Waterfall Cardigan that’s right for me!! Sorry!

  5. I actually already purchased the long boucle open cardigan and I love it!!!! So fun to see you like it as well!

  6. HI Cyndi, Well, i’m certainly not ready for Fall, or pumpkin spice lattes, or anything that doesn’t scream SUMMER. I love summer. HOwever, i do love the long sweaters and feel happy that i already have two, one that’s very thing, maybe what you call a duster above, and the other is oatmeal with navy details, i wear them in the summer with tank tops as well. I guess i’m excited about that. Until then though i’m going to enjoy the days of sunshine and heat, bring it on. Amy

  7. I Love the Look , i would rather have a one button , the sweater falls open and i dont like that look , on me..

  8. I love the printed fringe one! I’ll have to see if I can it! Im.looking so foward to your 26 days of fall fashion! I hope we can share our looks that you inspire. Maybe you should create a group Facebook page where we can sign up to follow you along on the outfits and share our own with each other!

  9. I have a few open front sweaters from last year. I’m thinking that the addition of a Blanket Style sweater to my wardrobe this year would be great.

  10. I like the longer length sweater. I bought one in red that I’ve been wearing as my bathrobe for those cool early mornings. It’s light and comfy and oh so perfect. But…I think I’ll wear it as a sweater come cooler temps.
Loving that Blanket Cardigan but the reviews are not good across the board. Can’t wait to see what else is trending.

  11. I have similar sweaters from last year. Happy to know they are still in style. Also great to get ideas on how to style them. No pumpkin latte here. In the 90’s!!!!!! Ready for fall.

  12. Like the other gals mentioned, I too am 5’4″. Not sure how the long cardigans look on us shorter ladies. With heels maybe, but still not sure. Thx for showing us what’s coming or fall.

  13. These are beautiful but for a little 5’3″ gal like me they make me look super short as they are so long. can you include a few options for us short gals? I have a few boots with heels which would help to make these fall correctly but as a busy momma of a toddler I really prefer flats. Any suggestions? thanks for your help and excited to see your fall options. you are such a blessing!

    1. Hi Jenny,
You know I have considered the same issues. The main issue, I have found that is a deal breaker is…the cardigans that are long in the front, but short in the back can look loff balance. The back needs to cover the bottom, and the front can not reach further than mid thigh.
Just my preference and experience with the drapey open front cardigans!
But I have gotten lots of wear out of my cardigans, I just have to be very selective:-)

  14. Hi Cyndi,
I just received my purchase from Glamour Farms and I not only love my new shirt and necklace but it came in a lovely scented box as well. So nice and different from other online orders. Thank you for sharing Glamour Farms with us…

  15. I really like what I’m seeing for fall, i.e colors & styles. As far as the long open front cardigan is concerned, I’m not sure. I had a few open front drapy ones from Coldwater Creek before they went out of business & wore them quite a bit. But as far as the long ones, just don’t know. I’m a 5’4″ curvy 14/16, and concerned the long ones are just way too long for me. Any other gals out there my size & what do you think? I’m just afraid they’ll be REALLY long on me! Actually my best bet would be to try some on with a “honest friend” critiquing me! Thank you once again Cindy for your fashion sense & Beauty for the Heart!

    1. I am very much looking forward to fall. Spring and Fall are my favorite times of the year.
I am 5″1 and I personally don’t like the long ones on me. I prefer them to not go any longer then my backside. The print fringe trim poncho is my favorite out of all the ones you posted.

  16. I love your blog ! Thanks for so many great ideas !
I love the cardigans but what style do you recommend for us petite girls?

  17. I love all of them, but being 5’3″, I have to be careful with the length. I usually wear heels with the longer ones. Do you have any other suggestions on long cardigans and petite women?

  18. For some reason I cannot wrap my head around wearing one of these long cardigans. I’m near a petite height and size 4 and fear this look will have me looking frumpy, sloppy and short. Cindy you are probably my size what are you’re thoughts on styling something like this?

  19. Ahh yes, Fall can’t get here fast enough for me. I’ve found quite a few tops and completer pieces online clearance and am ready….I posted some of my finds for Fall on my blog the other day and announced a year long no buying challenge beginning in September for my 5oth b’day to really stop and play with what I have and show the versatility of pieces. So glad that I stocked up for Fall before doing this. Looking forward to see what other things you recommend for Fall and live vicariously through other bloggers, lol!

  20. im 59(on friday) and plus size so I think the waterfalls will be most flattering and elongating. I can’t wait to see you style them, though!
