26 Days of Fall Fashion (Day 2)

mixed patterns 7Welcome to Day 2 of our 26 Days of  Fall Fashion! You all know I love the ’70s fashion trends we’re seeing this fall. I know some of you are not on the ’70s bandwagon but I think if it’s worn right, it can be fun.

One of the trends this fall is pattern mixing. This outfit is from the runway and is quite interesting. I won’t be buying it anytime soon (even if I wanted it, I couldn’t afford it, it’s Chanel!).

0015-chanel Here is my version of the mixed pattern style. I’m wearing a small polka dot blouse with floral jogger pants. These pants are silky and so comfortable.

I have been seeing a lot of bigger sunglasses so I thought I would give them a try, I found this pair at LOFT. I don’t know about you all, but I have to wear sunglasses even in the fall and winter.

mixed-patterns1Something else that is supposed to be trending this fall are statement earrings (which will make my daughter happy, she loves big earrings!). I found these long, gold earrings at Target.

mixed-patterns4In case you’re wondering, I pulled my hair back with a black clip. I usually use bobby pins but I was lazy and clipped it back. 🙂

Beauty For the Heart~~Do you ever have those months where you’re hard on yourself? You feel like nothing looks good on you? You’re seeing more wrinkles? You can’t lose the weight you’ve gained?

Ugh! I think as women we all do this, I know I do! I want to look like I’m 20 something, I feel 20 something, but I’m not.

It’s good to be reminded where our true beauty can be found. Let’s start on the inside.

1 Peter 3:4 says, You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

I love that we are precious to Him!

Psalm 34:5 says, Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

Let’s be radiant women who seek after Him.

Have a blessed day!

  1. You look lovely but you don’t “pop” in this outfit like you do in most. Since you are tiny I think the print on the pant is too large for your smaller frame and the pant print is a bit muted (at least it photographs that way) for the sharp black and white top. If there were a bright white in the pant print I think it would flow better. The Chanel look wins me over with the matching umbrella-I’m such a matchy-matchy girl.

  2. I love the pants but not sure I’m too into the pattern mixing. I’m usually slow to warm up to trends, though.

  3. I love receiving your posts in my email every day…but lately I am not receiving them, even though I have been subscribing for awhile. Please check to make sure I get them — the only way I am getting them now is through Jo-Lynne Shane’s links!

    1. Hey Pam! I re added you even though it showed you in my contacts. Let me know if you start getting them again. Should start with tomorrows post.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  4. I think there is something wrong with the fit of this outfit. It looks too boxy. I am used to you wearing loose fitting clothes but this misses the mark, in my opinion. You are a nize size and this doesn’t reflect that.

  5. I’m kindof a plain Jane also, I am trying to wear more prints but even as a size 8 or somedays a 10, I would feel kind awkward in a big print on pants. I think I’d like them more with a solid top, but I doubt I’d be brave enough for all that. Runway models look bizarre to me in my world most of the time, ha! I love them on Cyndi, and I know Jo-Lynne would look great as well!

  6. Not the biggest fan of pattern mixing but I guess it would depend on the outfit. But that first picture of the model wearing Chanel. YIKES! Personally, if I saw this girl walking down the street I would probably feel sorry for her. LOL

  7. I love your encouragement for the day Cyndi! I went to buy make up today and saw y 56-year-old face in the mirror and got discouraged 🙁 – and then I read what you wrote and felt encouraged to look deeper at the heart, not the outside. Blessings —

    Lori

  8. You could wear anything and look cute Cyndi! I think pattern mixing is interesting but this one is not one of my favorites. I remember back in the spring you styled a floral top with a striped skirt from Target (I believe) and I LOVED it. The Chanel outfit….oh my goodness….? I would love to see the reaction on the face of my friends and family if I stepped out in that outfit! LOL! ?

  9. It’s hot where I am today (North GA), so I have on shorts and a t-shirt. But I did take the time to pick out something that would look cute together and accessorize.
I’m getting a little better at pattern mixing. I used to dress almost all in neutrals, with just a little color, almost no patterns at all. It’s been a gradual change. I like to use polka- dots or stripes with a floral print. With certain things, I’ll get a little bolder, but I still keep it pretty basic. 🙂

  10. I love that you are doing this series!! I was just standing in my closet the other day thinking I need some new things but what?!

  11. I’m always afraid people will look at me and think “did she LOOK in the mirror before she left home” 🙂 so I tend to not mix even though I see yours and love it, and my daughter and her friend do it (early 20’s) and they always look great. I may have to put on my brave face and give it a go.

  12. I will never understand runway fashion, I guess I’m just not that hip. I like your outfit and I’m starting to try pattern mixing, however most of the time I’ll put mixed patterns on and end up changing my mind before I get out of the house! I have done stripes with patterned scarves before like you did yesterday, and I really like that. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this for us, you really do have the most realistic and relatable fashion blog I’ve ever seen! Definitely my favorite!

  13. I am surprised at all the negatives on these pants. You make them look great. I agree that many of us bigger girls couldn’t wear them though.
I have an unrelated question and I am asking you because I love your blog. You are my “plumb line” so to speak when it comes to what is in style for women over 40….although I am in my early 50s. I love that I do not have to do all the research and can just visit your site and see what styles are trending for upcoming seasons etc…That leads me to this question……
Do you know where I could go to check out what is in style for our men?
    Thank you

  14. Cyndi, it’s the inner beauty that counts, and yours shines on the outside!!!! You look good in anything! I wouldn’t be able to pull that off, but you look awesome! Keep smiling!

    Blessings,
    Lina

  15. Some days more than others, I need to read such scripture as the one referenced from Peter! Thanks for that today!
I have never commented on anything on line before – and I’m a new comer to your blog. And I love it! Not sure how I feel about mixing prints – bit of a traditionalist that way.
But keep the new fall looks coming. God bless!!

  16. Pattern mixing is OK if the colors and matters coordinate! And while yours is cute, the Chanel outfit looks like it came from Goodwill!! No thanks!!!

  17. I’m personally not one to follow trends, I like what I like, and wear what is flattering to my body, as well as my personality, so this would not be it for me, though I don’t have issue with mixing prints. I love the blouse, very cute, but don’t find the pants to be attractive in print and don’t find that they would flatter many women, no matter their body shape/size.

I also think you always look wonderful, but this one I’m not crazy about 🙁

  18. I like the pattern mixing (including the Chanel) and you have done it well, but this outfit reeks of the 80s to me and that is one era whose fashions I don’t care to revisit. Unfortunately for me, they’re coming judging by the bow-tie blouses; next it will be padded shoulders and mom-jeans.. Give me the 70s anyday, because while the styles were often exaggerated, the lines seemed clean and body flattering.

  19. I’m sorry, but mixing patterns? I can’t even deal.

I like your shoes and your bag, though. And you always look cute!

Love the beauty for the heart today, too.

  20. I think you are beautiful, but not digging today’s outfit. You on the other hand could make a paper sack look good, so it’s not you. I always love your outfits so I feel bad saying it’s not a favorite of mine. I love your shoes…Too cute!
Love Beauty for the Heart 🙂

  21. I love the pattern mixing outfit, I need to branch out & try mixing things up. Such a nice transitional outfit. Thank you for the for God’s gentle reminder! As I get ready to “celebrate” my last year of 50’s I am really seeing the changes…wrinkles, eyesight, ect. But thankful to be alive! Have a blessed day Cyndi

  22. I love the scriptures for today! I need to read them and your comments I over & over. And it’s right in line with a statement and photo that actress Julia Roberts posted on Monday. It’s definitely worth going to her Facebook page to check it out.
I live that bigger earrings are in for the fall. Like your daughter, I love them. I’m not comfortable with mixing patterns, so I won’t be doing too much of that.
Exciting news to share: STARTING AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT, EVERYTHING ON SALE AT GLAMOUR FARMS WILL BE $10.00. I will definitely be placing an order.
    Have a blessed day!

  23. Love it all! Your outfit looks great and I am a sucker for designer fashioner. I think the Chanel pattern mix is awesome! Thanks for showing both!

  24. Hi Cyndi,

Any suggestions for a great toenail polish color for now? Too early for the deeper tones but time to take off the brights!

    Thank you!

  25. The Chanel outfit looks sloppy and disheveled to me. You however, rock your’s. I like the top and pants, but for me, I would pair each with something else. Just a personal preference. I’m not a mixed patterns kind of girl.

  26. Not a big fan of those particular prints together but all the accessories are awesome! Grace & inner beauty…I’m so glad those never go out of style! Thank you for always pointing us back to Jesus Christ!

  27. Cyndi, I sure needed beauty for the heart today. I am feeling it. I love that song “the cross has made us flawless”!! We need to remember that. Your outfit is cute. Don’t like the model’s.

  28. I agree, you are brave to mix patterns! Outfit looks good on you, I am not so sure I could pull it off! LOL….And I love big sunglasses! Yours are fantastic! Thanks for sharing!!

  29. Lori, I’m one of those women who would love to be a size 14, and when I was in my 20s, I thought that was such a BIG size. Not anymore. I could never wear the print pants, but as always, they look good on you, Cyndi. I don’t think I’ll be mixing patterns this fall, but you go, girl!!!

  30. I love the look on you Cyndi, but I don’t know that I could handle the pants. Love your blouse, but I think I would personally stick with a solid on the bottom or a smaller pattern. I admire your willingness to try new things. It always seems to work for you. 🙂

  31. I like the 2 patterns together. I am not one to wear mixed patterns, but I these together. It might be a very small pattern and a large pattern are not clashing.

  32. I’m always amazed when someone I think is “perfect” looking (I’d love to be a size 4 and 10 years younger) also struggles with insecurities. I should not be surprized – but I am!

It reminds me to accept and love my Size 14 self (lots of people would LOVE to be a size 14! LOL), keep working on being as healthy and fit and pretty as I CAN be, and … move on.

Of course remembering the inner sweetness is what Jesus looks at – and what others most need from me (that sweetness is ALSO lacking, many days -sigh!)

I like the tiny pattern mixing ok. Not sure my size 14 body could handle that pattern of pants. What makes them “joggers”? I”ll have to look that up. They look nicer than jogging pants, to me.

  33. Yes so true let’s be radiant for God on the inside and out!
Love the floral pant and shirt!
Sometimes the jogger pants tend to be to short on someone 5’8:(
