5 Ways To Prep Your Skin For Winter

5 Ways To Prep Your SkinWhether we want to admit it or not, winter is right around the corner. The last few years have been brutal with extremely cold temperatures.

All that cold air can be hard on our skin so it’s time to start prepping our skin now for what’s to come.

Here are 5 Ways To Prep Your Skin For Winter

1. Drink plenty of Water. Keep your skin hydrated even during the colder months. Water helps keep your skin looking its best. I also add a drop of lemon essential oil to my water, I shared about that here.

wter bottle2. Exfoliate your skin. One of my favorite ways to exfoliate my face and body is with my Conair Sonic Skincare Solution. I love sloughing off those dull, dead skin cells to reveal fresh, glowing skin. It makes my skin feel soft!

Another body scrub I like to use is my coconut oil body scrub. I keep this in my shower, you can find the recipe here. This is an great inexpensive body scrub!

Conair sonic brush3. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize! I can’t say enough about moisturizing your body. There’s nothing worse than seeing your skin looking dry and rough.

Right now I am using Acure Organics Firming Body Lotion. (I need all the firming I can get!)

lotion4. Boost your immune system by taking a good multivitamin during the winter months. I add these liquid Vitamin D drops. I also drink 2 oz. of Ninxgia Red a day.

ningxia-redNingXia Red is a daily nutrient infusion for health and wellness support. In addition to whole-fruit wolfberry puree and superfruit juices and extracts, it’s formulated with Orange, Yuzu, Lemon, and Tangerine essential oils.

If you have a specific question about essential oils or Ningxia Red, you can email me at contactcyndispivey.com.

5. For the past few years I have wanted to add a humidifier to our bedroom. This year I’m going to do it! The air in our home gets so dry during the winter months, keeping the air moist will prevent skin dryness and irritation.

Taking care of our skin now will help tremendously when the cold air starts blowing in. I’m already dreading it! Ha!

Beauty For the Heart~~Are you a control freak like me?? Do you feel if you can control a situation, it will turn out right? Oh girl, I’m so with you on this!!!

This week in my Bible study, Beth Moore made us repeat some words about CONTROL. I have written them down and I’m going to hang them in my office.

Here you go! Say them out loud like you mean them.

I am not in control

I cannot control all my people

I cannot control our situation

Even when I want what is best

I cannot control the outcome

I cannot make people behave

I cannot make people believe

I cannot make people be strong because I am not God

He alone knows the end from the beginning

He alone knows how this thing will turn out

I hear by fire myself from HIS job

And I agree to see my fight for control, As what it really is

A screaming testament to my distrust

What is our control?? A screaming testament to our distrust. By trying to control things are we saying to God he can’t control it??

No more ladies, I’m done with trying to control everything, to be honest, I’m just plain tired!

Have a blessed day!

  1. Hi Cindy,
Enjoy your blog very much! I’m also a Glamour Farms and Stitch Fix fan because of you! It’s just so fun!
What’s the name of the Beth Moore Bible Study? I’m super interested.
    Best,
    Lisa

  2. Yes control big issue
Day by day process trusting God more feeling his presence over
    Situations!
Love my clinique sonic thanks to gift from my sister..also blog reader.
Also she keeps me supplied with Bobbie brown creams! Which I need badly in cold Chicago!

  3. You just spoke directly to my issue! This last week has been a nightmare with me feeling so out of control! Hahaha, I am, God does it better! I too am exhausted!

  4. I love the eight hour cream that is very emollient from Mary Kay and Elizabeth Arden has a similar product. Put it on your hands and feet every night and when you are out in the cold air all day put it on your face. I always wore it when we snow ski in Colorado..

  5. My skin has been getting dryer, and I realized I’m not drinking near as much water as I do during the summer. I need to increase that. 🙂

  6. Are we women not blessed by our sister-in-Christ Beth Moore? I’m very thankful for the wisdom God has ordained her with! And thank you Cyndi for also blessing us with your kindness and encouragement to wear our beauty for Him, from the inside out!

  7. Are some tools better than others to exfoliate. I have a Neutrogena one with pads I use for face. Is more expensive better? Cyndi, does yours have brushes you change? Thanks.

  8. I love that you are educating us. Most people do not know that you can’t moisturize dead skin and so it is very important to get rid of the dead skin before adding a moisturizer or you are wasting your lotion. Thank you for your knowledge!

  9. Which Bible study is that from? I’m going to be carrying those words around with me! Thanks for sharing them. (Total Beth Moore junkie here.)

  10. Thank you so much for the beauty for heart! Its so easy to forget that God is in control of our lives! This was a much needed reminder
    Thanks
    Nicki

  11. A humidifier is great for keeping your skin soft. We use one every night here in Phoenix (all year)because it is so dry.

      1. The humidifier we use is made by Holmes. It’s pretty simple. You just pour in distilled water and turn it on. We have it right by the bed and we run it overnight. If you get one, make sure you use distilled water. Tap water leaves a white mineral residue on the furniture.

  12. Hi Cyndi,

Thank you for your 5 ways to prep for winter skin suggestions. Most of all, thank you for sharing Beth Moore’s words of wisdom. My favorite line is “I hereby fire myself from HIS job”. I too as many have some control issues and my husband keeps telling me to “stop trying to do God’s job”…….well you have confirmed it with your beauty for the heart. Yes, I’m tired too…..just plain ol’ exhausted.

I look forward to reading you posts/blog daily and enjoying your beauty and fashion tips.

  13. I use the Rodan and Fields Macro Exfoliator year round to remove dry, dead skin and help keep my skin looking and feeling like I’ve just had a spa facial.

  14. Hi cyndi! Sometimes I get overwhelmed with the number of products it seems like you use in a day, whether it’s make up, lotions, essential oils, nutrition drinks. i guess it seems very expensive to use all these things (I just looked up the Ningxia drink), and wonder how many of us can afford them. What do you do with products you try and decide you don’t like them – that would get expensive for me too.

i’m just curious. I feel like I need an entire counter for all the daily products you use and recommend. Am I not seeing it right? Shari 🙂

    1. Hey Shari! I love to share products that I use with my readers. Different seasons, I will use different things.

Some of the items I use, I have received from companies like the Conair sonic brush. I got that back in July but I still use it and love it.

The other items I mentioned, other than the Ningxia red are pretty inexpensive.

The essential oils are a whole different ballgame. The Ningxia Red is not cheap but the 2 bottles with last me 60 days which is about $1.30 a day and I’m willing to pay that. I will cut something else out of my budget but I’m passionate about my oils and supplements. I feel better using them and that’s worth it to me!!

Hope that helps!! I certainly don’t think everyone has to use everything I mention but I love to share good products with you.

      Blessings,
      Cyndi

      1. I am with Shari, some days there seem to be a lot of “suggestions” for use but I do understand they are only “suggestions”. As a single woman with only my income to get by on, I try to look at what you put together and use things I already have to put something similar together. As far as the items you use, I usually have to use something I already have. I have read about the oils and believe they could be wonderful but affording them is another story. I love your blog and your “suggestions”.

  15. Thanks Cyndi for sharing these powerful words. I’m going thru a difficult time right now and really needed these today. God is AWESOME!
    Be blessed!
    Rosie

  16. We all need that hanging in our office or home! And repeat to ourselves everyday or several times a day! Yes, it’s time to start winterizing ourselves (lol) all good reminders, thanks!

  17. Thanks for the great tips on how to keep our skin healthy through the winter. I recently started taking Lysine, 1000mg daily, which is a OTC Dietary Supplement (amino acid) designed to help maintain healthy skin and is used for the production of collagen and tissue maintenance. Not sure yet if this will make a difference, but don’t think it will hurt.

  18. What a heavy weight could be taken from my shoulders if I could follow Beth’s guidelines. Whew!

I’d like to share your blog with the fashionistas in our congregation on our Facebook page. Would you be okay with that?

  19. Since you’re a proponent of Young Living Essential Oils, you should really try their Lavendar Body Lotion. It’s truly amazing. Just a little goes a long way, but it’s not greasy at all. Plus, you can add any essential oil for whatever specific purpose you need and not worry about the chemicals. Love Young Living!! And I love Ningxia Red. My husband and I drink it every day.

  20. Thanks for your Beauty for the Heart today! I needed those words from Beth Moore. I’m in the midst of a really rough parenting phase. I guess I’m trying to control too much and not trusting God to take care of it. Like you, I’m just TIRED! Weary, in fact.

  21. Yes! I need to copy that and hang it in every room of my house! Such a great prospective.
Love your skin care suggestions too. I’ll have to look into the scrub. I started making my own body butter about six months ago with all natural, organic ingredients and essential oils. It’s made my skin feel amazing and I love that there are no chemicals in it. 🙂
