Q & A/April 2016

I thought I would do a question and answer post because I’m getting a lot of emails, asking the same questions. I don’t mind that at all, but it’s sometimes easier to have an updated post that I can refer to when I’m answering an email.

Q & A/April 2015

1. How tall are you?

I’m 5’6″ but I wear a 2 to 3 inch heel quite a bit which makes me taller.

2. How do you style your hair? Also the half up hairstyle?

I use velcro rollers to style my hair. I wrote about it here and here is a post on my half up hairstyle.

3. What self tanner do you use?

I wrote about self tanners here. I’m using the Vita Liberata right now because I ran out of the Beauty by Earth.

4. What do you eat to stay healthy?

I am a creature of habit when it comes to food. I eat the same Kashi cereal every morning. For lunch, I eat leftovers from dinner or I’ll eat a salad, lately I have been on a grapes with cheese and crackers kick.

For dinner we typically eat a meat and a couple of vegetables. We don’t usually eat bread with our meal and I rarely eat a dessert. To help with my sweet cravings, I eat these energy bites and I have been making these healthy chocolate chip cookies lately.

I like the blog Skinnytaste for recipe ideas. Because we are moving and life is crazy right now, I’m using Hello Fresh. It’s delivered right to my door and it works for us.

I do eat out, sometimes more often than I want to, I love to eat at our Mexican restaurant! 🙂

5. What exercise program are you doing?

Right now, I am going to exercise classes 3 times a week. I do Zumba, Boot Camp and my favorite class is called Pound, go here to see what a pound class looks like.

6. What essential oils do you use?

This is the #1 question I get on a regular basis. Because of the FDA regulations, we have to be careful about saying any oil treats or cures.

I use Progessence +, Ylang Ylang, and Clary Sage for women issues. I regularly use Peppermint oil on my sinuses, I use Stress Away (enough said) and Joy. I drink 1 ounce of Ningxia Red a day too.

7. How do you organize your closets?

I’m going to be honest and say some weeks my clothes are everywhere! When you style clothes everyday, it can get crazy!

We are moving in 3 weeks and I will have a dedicated office/room where I will keep all my clothes/jewelry/shoes/handbags. I know everyone can’t do that but because I do this for a living, I need the space and office space for me is a tax deduction.

8. What do you do with all your clothes and shoes?

Let me be clear that clothes, shoes, jewelry etc. are nice but I am not attached to them. I give away regularly.

I don’t like excess and I style new clothes and trends on a regular basis. I give my clothes to my daughter who works outside the home and always needs work clothes. I also have some close friends that I give clothes to and everything else is donated.

I want to remember what Matthew 6:20 says, Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.

I hope that helps answer some of your questions. Let me know if I didn’t address something, and I’ll try to do another Q&A in May.

I’m so honored that you have taken time out of your day to stop by my blog. If you don’t want to miss a post, you can sign up to receive my daily emails and you’ll never miss a thing. I’m also on FacebookPinterest and my favorite one, Instagram.

  1. Hi, Cyndi! I’ve been following your blag for a long time. Love your posts! It’s funny, I had just asked my husband, “I wonder what Cyndi does with all these clothes and shoes?” Now I know! Thanks for all you do!
    Carrie

  2. Cyndi,

I have noticed people commenting on pictures of your new home you have posted. I can’t find the post they are talking about. Can you tell me how to find the post. Thanks

    1. Hi Cindy,
I shared those pictures in my email. I share a little more in my emails so if you would like to sign up go here>>>http://mad.ly/signups/104496/join
      Cyndi

  3. HI Cyndi, I am hoping you decided to do the Style Challenge in May. If so, I will definitely sign up. I have purchased many of the items you style but then I get stuck styling it only one way. It would be really helpful to see multiple uses for items. Thanks for your blog! I love it!

  4. What products do you use for your nightly skin cleaning before you go to bed. I already have the morning routine products….thanks! Linda

  5. Thanks so much for your blog. I enjoy it and have gotten many ideas for myself. I really don’t like to shop so your ideas help me know what to look for when I do shop. I have been so focused on my kids for the last 16 years that now I need to focus a little on myself to be more healthy and put together. I really appreciate your style of modesty that is still up to date and modern.

  6. So glad I found your blog! I had never heard of Hello Fresh. Checked them out and placed my first order today…..so excited to receive it next week!

    1. I hope you like it Amy! I got mine yesterday and it’s so nice to have 3 fresh meals in my refrigerator ready to fix.
      Blessings,
      cyndi

  7. Thank you Cyndi! I really like today’s Beauty For the Heart. Kristian Bush has a song out called Trailer Hitch, that talks about he’s never seen a hearse with a trailer hitch; you can’t take it with you when you go, that is so true.

I hope you had a blessed day!

  8. Thank you Cyndi! You are such a blessing to so many women! I look forward to your Blog each day and appreciate your transparency about day to day life and as a Christian woman! So thankful we’re Sisters-in-Christ! I can’t wait to actually meet you one day! Blessings and Hugs!

  9. I like the comment about looking at other women and thinking that they have it all together. After dealing with my daughter’s eating disorder and depression along with her suicide attempt the day after Easter, I have discovered that everyone has “stuff” they are dealing with. Looks can be deceiving. I like women who are genuine. I am blessed to have found your blog. Thanks for being a real person and sharing your faith. God’s blessing

    1. Ellen I pray your daughter is doing better. So many young women struggle with eating disorders. And yes we all have “stuff”.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  10. It would be wonderful to video your speaking at church on Mother’s Day and share it on your blog. I think of all the ladies that could experience the extra encouragement! I appreciate your transparency, your focus on grace and your love for Jesus.

  11. Hi Cyndi, first time commenter here! I am not even 40 yet but I love coming to your blog for inspiration. I am a homeschooling mom of 3 boys and I appreciate your modest approach to clothing and of course that you aren’t afraid to declare your love for the Lord.

I appreciate you opening up to your readers and sharing so many details because we really do want to know! LOL

My question for you is how you start you day. I’m obviously in a different season of life, but do you get up early to have devotions, etc? I am always striving to deepen my relationship with the Lord and always curious how other women set aside this time. Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Jessica!! So nice to meet you. I am an early riser so I get up around 5 and I usually do my devotion first. Even when my children were home, I would get up early enough to spend time in God’s word and prayer. Sometimes it might only be 10 to 15 minutes but I love to start my day that way.
Now that I blog about fashion, I try to make sure I’m in His word daily. I want to focus on what’s really important. The fashion is fun but I want to make sure I’m growing in my relationship with Christ. Plus I share a lot about Him on my blog, and I can’t share if I’m not being fed myself. I hope that makes sense!!!
      Blessings,
      cyndi

  12. I loved this post! You have a heart of gold for sharing many of these beautiful items (even though God has blessed you with them). Thanks for reminding me that even if I could have it all, I wouldn’t want to keep it all anyway because of what God’s word tells us! You are such a blessing to us all. The move sounds a bit stressful but must also be exciting! Have a blessed day today!

  13. Great post – I love honest bloggers and honest leaders of all sorts. And I love Q&A.

I am curious about your blog as business. I am always amazed at the hard work (you make it look easy but just thinking about all the clothes purchasing and organization and photography and then writing about it – makes me tired. 🙂 Plus I know pastors’ wives are busy people!)

How did you come to do a blog?
How is the money? Is it worth it or is it more a “labor of love and passion”? (LOL, honest questions here – just ignore me if I’m too nosey)
Did it take a while to make money on the blog? I’ve heard it takes a long time and I’m just curious about the journey. I may do a blog some day (retirement?) but it won’t be a fashion blog, for sure. LOL
How do you manage your time on the blog with the rest of life and how has that changed as your blog has grown?

Thanks again for all the good content and the spiritual angle as well.

    1. Also – do you ever need help with the blog? I would love to help out as a way of learning. I can proofread and copy edit and do (and learn) some some technical web stuff. Maybe you already have helpers – I never see typos! Just checking!

  14. Cyndi,
Love your blog and your heart for women! Francesca Battistelli’s song “If We’re Honest” is my current favorite. Your honesty about your not perfect life is such an important message. I’m sure the women of your church will be blessed beyond measure by your Mother’s Day message!

  15. I had to laugh when I read this…only because I can only imagine how many questions you get daily :). You are quite popular ya know, and well, inquiring minds want to know. Seriously though, thank you for answering – and I know personally that you answer direct emailed questions – thank you for that too! You’re like a good friend I’ve never met. Good luck with your move!

    1. I agree with that sentiment of a good friend I’ve never met. Plus, for me, knowing that we are sisters in Jesus just starts things out so much deeper than with other friends (whether I’ve ‘met’ them or not).

  16. Thanks so much for all your helpful hints! Reading your daily blog is always a highlight of my day. I would also be interested in reading your speech if you would be so kind to share it on here. Thanks Cyndi!

  17. Thank you you are a beautiful woman.also the wonderful passages and quotes. They help me in my life.bless you.hope to see more.

  18. Good morning Cyndi!
Thank you so much for sharing your heart each day. Your transparency is such a blessing, and I look forward to every post. I just have one other question, would you please share your PM skin care routine? I saved the post on your AM skin care, and I am going to try the Timeless products you mentioned. I was just curious if you used any of their other products for your PM routine, and if so, what would you recommend. Thanks so much!

  19. Cyndi, I just bought those very same oils, for women’s issues, I’m unclear. Do you drink them or apply them to your skin?

    1. I apply all of them to my skin. The Progessence+ I use on my forearms at least once a day. Usually at night.
The Clary Sage and the Ylang Ylang on the inside of my feet. (Google the vita flex chart to see where your organs are located on your feet).
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  20. you are so cute Cyndi 😉 thx for the Q & A… the Beauty for the Heart is the same thought I posted on my FB page yesterday. I guess great minds think a like.. HA! Have a blessed day. Praying you are not tooo stressed with moving. 🙂

      1. I know…but I had to keep remembering…I don’t need to be in control of everything!! (it’s that type A personality that makes it so stressful, i theorize)
Remember to breathe and we love you!!

  21. I eat the same cereal too! I love that stuff! The energy bites look really good, I may have to try those 🙂

  22. I’m just curious about how you store your shoes? I keep mine in the original box with the label facing out which details what the shoe is. My friends all think I’m quirky to do that, they just place theirs on the shelves. I like to keep them in the original box, keeps dust out, keeps them looking better. I sometimes put the paper that comes in with the shoes back in to help them hold their form.

    1. Oh Sherry you are way more organized than I am. I feel good when I have them all in my closet and not in a pile in my bedroom. Gah!!
I’m hoping to organize them better when we move. I think it’s great that you keep them in the boxes. They will last longer!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  23. Thank you for sharing…one question – how do you use the peppermint essential oil for your sinuses? It would be helpful information for those of us with sinus issues. Thanks!

    1. Hi Pam, I place a drop of the oil right on my sinus area. The ones that bother me the most are on my cheek area. But have some carrier oil handy in case its too strong for you. It makes my sinuses drain immediately!!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  24. Cindy, you did your daytime skincare routine a couple of months ago. ( I have been using the Timeless products you recommended) When will you be following up with your evening routine? I’d love to know what evening moisturizer you use. Your blogs are all great. Thank you for helping us to not only look great but spread goodness from the inside out.
Have a great day and a smooth move.

  25. Thank you for being so “real” and sharing life with us. What I time of the day do you find the time to exercise? Thanks again for your blog!

    1. Hey Donna, I work out at different times, depending on the week. The place I go offers morning and evening classes so depending on what I’m doing, I work around their schedule.
I try to go 3 times a week.
      Cyndi

  26. Love, love, LOVE this post! Thanks for being so informative…in ALL areas! 😉
You’ve given me much food for thought! Edible stuff, too. (Those cookies will be baked this week!)
    Have a blessed day.

  27. Hi Cyndi! What a great post! People have to understand that this is yiur JOB! Just like anyone else’s! Great that you put it out there as to what you do with all your clothes. Back in my work days, I had a ton of clothes, then when I retired, I really had to clean house. I did get a comment to two, asking if I ever wore the same thing twice! When you dress up once a week for church, even a half full closet goes a LONG way! LOL! Nice that you put it all out there! Sending prayers your way for a smooth move and transition into your new home!

  28. I would love to hear you speak on Mother’s Day. May I ask where your church is located? I enjoy reading your posts and checking out your blog!
    Thank you,
    Denise

  29. Just would like to know your thoughts on BB cream which brands do you like and use daily? It has been a long while since you have talked about makeup.

  30. You have mentioned a few times that you are moving. I am moving this weekend. We are a American military family living in South Korea but moving to Belgium. This is our 22nd move.
I’ve been enjoying your blogs and really like your clothing style. Thank you for showing us all that ladies our age can still be cute and stylish. God bless.

    1. I just had to reply to you! Another Cindi here…we are Army too and about to make our 17th move. What’s funny about the military life is, even though I don’t know you, you already a friend. Good luck on our move! Belgium is lovely, SHAPE is a good group. Maybe we will cross paths someday.

  31. Thanks so much for your honesty. I enjoy your blog and love your style. Beauty from the Heart is always uplifting and a great reminder of what’s really important in this life….and the next.

  32. Thanks for the message in your email. We all need to hear that and remember your wisdom. Yes! A great goal… to love and be merciful each day.

  33. Hi Cyndi!

I just wanted to let you know that I’m a huge fan of your blog! I know it’s geared toward women over 40, but I’m a 20 year old college student, and I love it! I love your classic but trendy style, but your Beauty From the Heart section keeps this sometimes struggling college student going. Thank you for being such a blessing!

  34. Wow you are 5’6 i eould have never thought that i figured uou for 5’3 5’4 no wonder everything looks great on you im a shorty if i just had longer legs..but i know i have got to embrace what god has given me..love your style and your spirit..god bless and have a great day

  35. Cindy, I so enjoy your outfits, blog and kind heart. Could you publish your Mother’s Day speech on the blog? I can use all the encouragement these tough days! Thank you!
