Coast To Coast Summer Survival: Beach/Pool Day Survival

5 Pool Day Survival TipsCarylee || Rachelle || Gina || Cyndi || Jo-Lynne

I’m excited to join 4 bloggers as we share some Coast to Coast Summer Survival. Every Tuesday during the month of August, we’re going to talk about a topic related to surviving the last month of summer.

Today’s post is all about Beach/Pool Day Survival and since I don’t live close to the beach, I’m talking about what I use for a pool day.

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know we recently purchased a home with a pool. While I haven’t been able to be poolside as much as I would like, we have had several get-togethers and there are a few things I always have on hand when I’m going to spend a day at the pool.

1. Coconut Body Scrub

I want my skin to look it’s best so I start with a coconut body scrub before I ever hit the pool. I use this all summer to keep my skin looking good.

5 Pool Day Survival Tips

I make my own body scrub with Nutiva organic virgin coconut oil and sugar. I use 1 cup of coconut oil and 1 cup sugar.

2. Summer Hat (linked a similar hat)

To keep my hair from getting damaged by the sun (especially since I have my hair colored), I wear a hat when I’m outside. Nordstrom has several summer hats that are perfect for a pool day!

5 Pool Day Survival Tips3. Sunscreen

This one is a no-brainer but I thought I would share the sunscreens I use regularly.

Supergoop has an SPF 50 and has healthy ingredients. It’s paraben free, oxybenzone free, and fragrance free.

Andre Lorent has anti-aging properties and is paraben and fragrance free, broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection and SPF 30.

5 Pool Day Survival Tips4. Bronzer

I don’t wear a lot of makeup if I’m going to be at the pool but to help give me a sun kissed look on my face, I use a bronzer. I use hourglass bronzer in luminous bronze light and this compact lasts a long time!

5 Pool Day Survival Tips5. Mosquito Repellant

This one you might not think about but if we are going to be outside in the evening, I like to have a mosquito repellant on hand. Water attracts mosquitos.

Fit mosquito repellant is

  • Certified USDA Organic by Oregon Tilth
  • DEET free and Picaridin free, no synthetic chemicals
  • Repels mosquitos that may carry Zika viruses
  • Safe for pregnant women and young children
  • Proven effective for 3 hours

Beauty For the Heart~~We please Him most not by frantically trying to make ourselves good, but by throwing ourselves into His arms with all our imperfections and believing that He understands everything and still loves us. A.W. Tozer

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9

  1. Ladies,
We always have coconut oil on hamd and this sounds wonderful. However, I was told that coconut oil should never be sent down the drain in the tub or in the sink because it clogs easily.
    Is that not the case?

  2. Hi Cyndi – I also make my own coconut scrub but I also add the rind of a lemon after grating it and then add the juice from the lemon, It makes it smell so good and is an added benefit to your skin!

  3. Thanks Cyndi for letting me know that the cover up is From Mudpie. Just ordered mine. I buy so many items that you wear. Love your style. Hope you have a great day!

  4. Hi Cyndi–this may sound silly but just wondering, when you use this scrub in the bathtub do you find the floor of the tub gets slippery and what does this do to the drain? Does it cause the drain to run slow or clog up?

    1. Hey Rose, don’t put the scrub on the bottom of your feet because it can be slippery. Also, I have never had a problem with it clogging the drain. My water is usually hot enough that it melts. 🙂

  5. Hi always enjoy your posts!! Do you ever video tape your speaking engagements? I live to far to attend and it would be great to see you.

  6. I made a coconut scrub last week and it made my skin feel amazing. My recipe called for 2 c sugar and 3/4 c coocnut oil. I’m assuming mine was much grittier (is that a word?) I used it on my face, legs and feet (well all over ;-)) a good wash off and my skin was so soft!

  7. Love all your tips and sense of style. Thanks! Can you please share where you purchased the cover-up? It is so me… 🙂

  8. A big umbrella, a glass of lemonade, a good book and I can sit by our pool for hours. I want to try the coconut scrub, thank you for the idea.

  9. This is a timely post for me because I’m traveling this weekend also. I get to go to the Beth Moore conference in Nashville, TN!

  10. Beauty and water, always a good mixture… Loved this blog, and you’re looking very refreshing by the pool. So true for the beauty for the heart.. we need God’s compassion, care, guidance for our lives every day. Even in the smallest of things, I pray for His help and always remember to THANK Him for everything! God Bless you…. take care and another day closer to your special day !!! 🙂

  11. Best news today is that you will be in Benton. A friend and I live soooo close to the area. Looking forward to spending the day with you!

    1. I’m interested on the coconut scrub. The sugar doesn’t dissolve? I’ve never made one but love coconut oil for my feet and love scrubs so I want to make this. I just feel like a need a few more tips and details about making it…
      Thank you
      Anita

      1. Anita, I’ve made several scrubs with white and brown sugars, the oil won’t dissolves the crystals so you keep that gritty texture. I hate to get all “Pinterest-y” 😊 But you can find several variations there or just simply mix coconut oil (or olive oil) with sugar and store in a covered container. Hope you give it a try my girls and I have tons of fun making our own concoctions!

  12. I try to stay out of the sun. When I was younger I tanned all the time now my skin really shows it. But I like the scrub you talked about gonna try that. Thank you enjoy your trip. 😊

  13. Question about the scrub…do you melt the coconut oil, or will it stay “liquidy” after you put in the sugar? I have a scrub I use, but I dont’ like the smell, your scrub sounds better and probably better for me and cheaper too :).
Beauty for the heart…love it! Thank God for grace!

  14. I really enjoyed this post and appreciate your sunscreen recommendations! Just this week my son has randomly been having an allergic reaction to our usual sunscreen so I am going to check out your suggestions as they sound like they might be good for sensitive skin. And I agree with Angie above- love your swim cover up!

  15. You’re right, I don’t think of bug repellant but I need to! I’ll have to check out your rep! Also your cover up and hat are adorable!
