Open Shoulder Turtleneck-Fall Fashion

It’s hard to believe it’s September! As much as I love summer, I’m always ready for fall and I’m super excited to begin 26 Days of Fall Fashion with Jo-Lynne. To celebrate, we are giving away a $100 LOFT gift card, so be sure to read to the end for details on how to enter!

Today I’m styling an open shoulder turtleneck with boot cut jeans from Gap. I have to say if you’re looking for a good pair of boot cut jeans, these baby boot jeans are awesome.

Open Shoulder Turtleneck-Fall FashionI love these boot cut jeans so much, I bought two pair. The other pair I purchased the tall size so I can wear them with a heel.

Open Shoulder Turtleneck-Fall FashionThis open shoulder turtleneck also comes in gray. It would be cute dressed up with a pair of dress pants.

Open Shoulder Turtleneck-Fall FashionMy necklace is from Glamour Farms (make sure you see the discount code below for $10 off). They have added a lot of cute jewelry!

Leopard flats work great with this outfit and I added a brown clutch. These leopard flats run small so I would order a half size up if you order them.

  1. Scarves. I’ve never been much of a scarf person, but in recent years I’ve loved wearing what little I have. I’d love to see how you accessorize with them.

  2. So happy I found this blog–and Jo-Lynne’s. With four (4) teenage girls in my house, I need help keeping my fashion compass in my age decade!!! Thanks!

  3. Such a beautiful simple and yet so trendy outfit!
I love turtlenecks and the cut on the shoulders seems to be a very big hit this season!
    Well done,as always, congratulations!👍

  4. Glad to see the series starting. I’ve been looking forward to it – Fall is my favorite time of year! Your Beauty for the Heart sets your blog apart and makes me look at yours when I’m pressed for time and have to choose just one, or sometimes I don’t even read the rest but just go straight to that. I know I’ll be uplifted.
    Thank you!

  5. I love the jeans, just wish they came in a 34″ inseam. Loft is my favorite store, so I love it when you style things from there!

  6. Love it!!! Can’t wait to see all the fall styles this month by you and Jo-Lynne!! Love both of your blogs!!! Would love to see over-the-knee boots posts!! Thanks so much for the inspiration every day!

  7. Cyndi, I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to your daily e-mails. The fashion is my fun, and the “Beauty for the Heart” is often perfectly timed. I’m looking forward to all things fall! I love fal!! Scarves are probably my favorite accessory, so I hope to get more inspiration for new ways to wear them.

  8. I love this outfit on you. I’m glad we have a few more weeks of summer, it’s my favorite season. But I like your inspiration of what to wear when the cooler weather sets in. I think I may need to get some hoop earrings to wear now. They look like they would go with so many looks.
And thank you for sharing your beauty for the heart each day!

  9. I really like the look of the boot cut jeans with the leopard flats. What else would look good with the boot cut jeans, other than high heels?

  10. Wow! Another great outfit and look at all the comments!! I truly owe an apology for my reply yesterday when I made a comment on how the outfits look so much better on you than other models. I was not referring to the beautiful
girls on Glamour Farms, they all look beautiful in their outfits! I was referring to the major store ads, they are probably not taking their time on the photos like you and the Glamour Girls! Sorry about that comment if it was
    misunderstood!!!!!!

  11. I’m so glad boot cut jeans are back in style! I definitely need a pair of leopard flats! I love your blog and fashion advice!

  12. Just bought a pair of loepard shoes. Now I am on the look for a clutch. Love yours. Fall can’t get here fast enough.

  13. I would actually like to see an item from last fall that you still wear and how you would wear it this year to keep it on trend!

  14. So HOT in Florida (and very rainy and windy – thank you, Hurricane Hermine!) to think about Fall! I’m trying ;-).

  15. I love these flats. I just bought them. You have styled them before but, they were always sold out. Love your outfits.

  16. Thanks for pointing me to these jeans- I need some new ones and haven’t found any that I like. I’ll give these a try!

  17. I love the __Days of Fall Challenges (and all seasons) that you do with Jo-Lynne. I get so many ideas from these challenges that help me feel put together. Thank you!

  18. I always have a hard time figuring out tops to wear under open cardigans. Shirts with sleeves always end up looking bulky and tanks seem to reveal all my tummy bumps. Would love some suggestions for great tops to go under my cardigans. Excited about the giveaway!

  19. Love this outfit, Cyndi! So simple and sophisticated. And affordable, as always. I love that I don’t have to hold my breath when I click on an item in your posts. They are always within my budget.

  20. Not a fan of the cut out shoulders and they are EVERYWHERE! Guess I’ll pass… Cute outfit on you though. Thanks for the tip on the jeans!

  21. I love your style and that you are so willing to post how we can buy any item we want to achieve the same great look! Thanks for all your inspiration. 🙂

  22. Love the outfit and the shoes. Nice to know gap has the jeans I’ve beaning looking for some. You look very nice as always. Thank you for today.

  23. So awesome of you and Jo-Lynne to do another fall outfit challenge like this. I have learned so much. And thank you for the chance to win the Loft gift card.

  24. Love the simplicity of this although it will be sometime before us Texas gals can put on a turtleneck! Originally from the north I long to be back home this time of year.

Question: When to tuck in a top and when to let it be out. I am long waisted so tend to want to tuck tops to shorten torso. I do alot of the front tuck but only with loose fitting tops. I like to fashion cool belts…is that not trendy anymore?

  25. Hi, love this outfit! I never gave up my boot cut jeans so I like seeing style ideas. A suggestion for the fall fashion would be an outfit with a black moto jacket. I bought one at the end if last season and haven’t had a chance to wear it.

  26. I love this black top so much that I just ordered one! I am also so happy to see boot-cut and flares coming back this fall. In my opinion, I feel they are much more flattering on women over 40. I look forward to your emails everyday. Thanks for your advice and your kind heart.

  27. I love cut out shoulders – they’re everywhere and I was afraid I’d be to old for them (55) –guess not! The tan clutch looks beautiful against the black turtle and go nicely with the shoes. OKAY! I can wear this one! thanks so much

  28. I got my first cold-shoulder top last week. I love the look, but it honestly feels a little weird! Guess I’ll get used to it because it’s so cute.

  29. Can’t wait to see the rest of the fall series! I’m ready to get some cute outfits together now! Bring on fall! 🙂

  30. Love the boot cut jeans! I would like to see some scarves styled for this season if you would. I love the idea of a scarf but am never quite certain how to add them to my outfits. I really appreciate your style, you always show how we can dress cute and still be conservative!

  31. Happy Fall! So thankful for your blog…I am an almost 47 year old mama that desires to not look frumpy, and your modest, affordable tips are so helpful! I would love to see more ways you will style the baby boot cut jeans, this look was GREAT!

  32. Love the top. I don’t feel comfortable in turtlenecks because I have a short neck, but I do like them on others.
I will be needing new jeans for fall so I am glad to see this style. I have never been a fan of boot cut but these are not as full as regular boot cut. I always love your beauty from the heart posts. It’s a reminder everyday of God’s love for us.

  33. This looks great on you! I’d love to see fall trends for skirts this season. I never know what to expect, or if I’d look weird wearing last year’s look!

  34. Hello from San Francisco! I don’t like skinny jeans, and only wear straight cut or boot. I love that you are styling the baby bootcut jeans and more affordable options, too. Keep it up, Cyndi!
P.S. – I see so many more comments posted today – must be the giveaway! haha

  35. Love the outfit – especially the jeans (they look super cute on you!). I’m looking forward to each day of the 26 days of Fall Fashion! I’d love to see you style some fall/winter outerwear – casual and dressy coats/jackets/vests, etc. Thank you for your godly example and words of inspiration each day!

  36. Love this fall outfit!! Can’t wait to see more outfits styling boots.
You inspire me so much that I got side swept bangs today to help me look younger. 😊

  37. Very cute! Not sure if I could pull this look off, but stil very cute. I am so grateful for your blog. I am definitely fashion challented, but I can duplicate awesome looks just fine. 🙂

  38. I love these baby boot cut jeans. I’ve never heard of them before and I really like them. You always look great and you inspire me. I just had a big birthday–a few days after yours–so I especially appreciate your style. Thank you!

And about a fall trend I’d like to see you style: I have a pullover hoodie that is a fabulous thin waffle-weave which I am seeing so much in my favorite shops in Atlanta.I’d love to see you style something like that, especially to see your jewelry and shoe choices. Thanks again for all you do!

  39. I love…..the open shoulder look. I loved it for the summer and now you are styling it as a turtleneck and I am gonna go get one today. The boot cut jeans are great. Can’t wait to start wearing boots again. Have a blessed day!
    Nancy

    1. I left my comment before I read today’s beauty for the heart. I love how God just puts the right thing in our path at the right time. Today I am feeling especially broken-hearted because it’s my Daddy’s birthday, his 4th to spend in Heaven. Thank you for your simple reminder that God does mend our broken hearts.

  40. Can’t wait to see all 26 days. I love the fall season. It’s my favorite time of year! Love your blog and look forward to seeing more. God bless you and your family and all your followers.

  41. I love the fashion and fellowship from finding Cindy and Jo-Lynne. Here is to another great 26 days of fall fashion! Now if it wouldn’t be 90+ degrees here in the south!!!

  42. From one Pastor’s wife to another…I enjoy your blog and appreciate your fashion insight and also your love for our Lord! Keep up the good work!

  43. Great outfit! I’m going to check out the jeans, not a fan of boot cut but I have to wear them when we ride the motorcycle. The baby boot just might be the perfect solution. Not ready to give up summer, but I love fall & looking forward to what you & Jo-Lynne show us.

  44. Cyndi, You always shine because of your love for Christ! This is a great Fall outfit. Bring on the cooler temps and the beautiful colors.

    Have a blessed Friday eve!

  45. Okay, girl, you’ve talked me into trying the cold-shoulder look! Just ordered the top from Target. And I’ve ordered the Cyndi necklace from Glamour Farms–thank you so much for the discount code!

You are too, too cute. I’m so proud to know you! 🙂

  46. I’m so exciting I ordered two pair of the leopard print shoes just to make sure I ordered the right size. I’ve been waiting since last fall to restock them and didn’t want to miss out this year! Love your style! I would like to see different outfits with the leopard print shoes!!

  47. Great outfit to start your series off with. I like the complete look. I am looking forward to seeing the next 25 days as Autumn is my “favorite” season. ~Lisa~

  48. Love this outfit…and I love, love, love the leopard flats! All the pieces could be worn in different ways with many fall outfits. Thanks for all you do, you are a blessing!

  49. I absolutely love this outfit…….. just something about black and denim. You rock these jeans and I love the open shoulders on this top. After losing 30 pounds this year and still in the process of losing a few more I’m so excited to shop for fall. I enjoy reading your post and look so forward to seeing your outfits.

I’m so ready for college football this weekend. War Eagle!

Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.

  50. Finally some cooler temps in Cincinnati today! I’m ready! The heat the last few weeks has been relentless! Have a blessed Thursday!

  51. Hah—I just got some flares from the Gap too—although mine aren’t baby flares—but with the 40% off, they were a good deal!
I’d really like to see you style these same jeans a little more. Since I’m so used to wearing skinnies….it’s hard to wrap my brain around what to wear with these!!

  52. Love everything you wear! Look forward to lots of transitional summer to fall to winter outfits, and how to wear items through all seasons.

  53. I am so excited to follow your ideas fall fashion! This outfit is great. I would love to see you style a pair of embellished jeans, too!

  54. Love this combo, Cyndi! Gap is the only type of bootcut jeans I own since I can usually get a shorter inseam there. I have to get the short or petite to wear with flats, lol.

  55. I love boot cut jeans. I feel like they are more flattering to the average figure than skinnies, although I own both. Happy September to all! I love reading your blog Cyndi – you always look so stylish and put together while dressing modestly. Thanks for all the work you do on the blog.

  56. cute look as always Cyndi! I adore Loft! Can’t wait to see what you and Jo-Lynne have in store this month for fall outfits!

  57. Love the baby boot cut jeans! Not a bad price at Gap with 40% off! They look really cute on you….but then again everything does! Thanks for all your fashion ideas and the inspirational comments. God is so good!

  58. Oddly enough, I bought a cold shoulder blouse at target yesterday… And now I’m feeling a bit chicken about wearing it. I really like it… It’s classic in all details and I love the wAy it looks…id love to wear it to work and since I’m a tv news producer I can (newsroom is very fashion forward and on the casual side). I think I just need the confidence…and some more cold shoulder ideas please!!!

  59. Wow, what a great outfit, I just ordered the top as I wear XS and it sells out quickly! I already have leopard flats and a leopard clutch so I can’t wait to wear this! Thanks Cyndi!

  60. Love this outfit combination. I already bought the leopard flats on sale this summer at DSW (Dallas Shoe Warehouse). I’d love to see a blog post on belts…what’s in with widths, colors, etc.

  61. I love your style! The summer work wear challenge was fun and now I am looking forward to the fall one. I hope to see some ideas on how to wear dresses with boots/shoes in the winter.

  62. Sorry to be the dissenter here, but I do not like the boot cut jeans. Granted, I am no fashionista, but I thought they went out years ago. I didn’t realize they were a trend again. They just remind me so much of the bell bottoms my mom used to wear. 🙂

To the person who asked about Gap sizes, I wear an 8/29. Hope that helps!

  63. Happy Fall from Texas! Although it doesn’t get cooler here until late Oct, us Texas gals still start wearing our fall pieces in Sept. Unfortunately we don’t wear a lot of turkenecks but I did order some leopard flats from JCP. They were on clearance already if anyone else is interested. Thanks for sharing this cute outfit and looking forward to more 😀

  64. I love turtlenecks but I am just not comfortable with the cut out on the shoulders yet. I don’t really like my arms or neck anyway………guess that’s why I like turtlenecks!! Thanks for all your great style ideas!
Looking forward to the fall fashion challenge.

  65. May have to check out those jeans. I like skinny jeans, but I prefer a little flair as I feel it balances my body better. That verse today is one I have turned to more than once because yes, I have had much heartache in my life.

  66. Cindy,
I love your style and always your words of encouragement. I am a pastor’s wife from North Carolina and I just feel so blessed to have found your blog. I would love to see you style a fall fashion with a blue Jean skirt. God Bless you in all you do. – Cynthia

  67. You are so cute in anything, Love the jeans. I am one of those girls who likes boot cuts, not all the time. I’m a Levi gal, just got 3 new pairs at a outlet on vacation, for Fall/Winter ! But, I’m going to The Gap haha Thank’s !!

  68. I never know what to do with my hair when I wear scarves. It’s longer, so I feel like I need it up in a bun or pony tail. How to style scarves with different hair lengths would be a good post!

  69. Ready for fall! I would love to see features with jackets and vests! Great giveaway!
Looking forward to seeing the boot cut jeans with a heel.
    Hugs,
    Sharon

  70. I am so excited to see you styling boot cut jeans! A know that they are back more in trend this year. I am just not built for skinny jeans and boot cut is so much better for my figure. You always look good in whatever though. 😄 Hoping to get some ideas cause my after baby/ after losing weight wardrobe could use some help this fall! 😄

  71. I too am ready for fall fashion – just not the cooler weather that comes with it! If only I could wear fall clothes in summer temps!!

  72. Love today’s outfit..always love a black Tneck with jeans – the cutout on the shoulders is a nice touch.
    Blessings to you

  73. Usually don’t like boot cut jeans, but theses are pretty cute. Would like to see some tunics and leggings for us “grown-ups” instead of just teenagers…that would be great!

  74. I like the bootcut jeans. I’ve decided to pass on cold shoulder tops. While I will invest in some trends, I am concerned this trend will pass fast and look dated.

  75. Love this look! I have not tried the cold shoulder look yet…maybe a turtleneck is just the look. Thank you for your fashion posts and your Beauty for the Heart.

  76. I love this outfit. Really like the baby boot cut jeans. Hate that their sizing is not the standard 7-9-11… Can you provide a conversion chart?

    1. Gap probably has a sizing chart available. Just fyi – odd numbers indicate junior fashion sizes – i.e. 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, etc.; even numbers indicate misses fashion sizes – i.e. 4, 6, 8, 10, etc. Hope that helps :).

  77. Love the look on you, Cyndi! (as always!) I love the cold shoulder, just wish it was not a turtleneck. I will keep looking for one for the winter months! Thank you for your blog and hard work to make it so great for everyone! Also love your heart for Jesus! Many blessings!!

  78. Love the flats, been wanting some and this helps me see how to wear them. I’m interested in searing some other shoes that are not tall heels /wedges.

  79. Stunning! What a great outfit. I am glad to see that boot cut jeans are not dead. I love my skinnies, but sometimes I miss my bootcuts.

  80. I’ve recently purchased a few pairs of bootcut jeans and I am really getting to like them! I also bought one pair in the long size for the same reason as you! Looks great! I have the Gap Long and Lean and Gap Perfect Boot. Love Gap jeans!

  81. I’m a stay at home grandmother watching my 1-1/2 year old granddaughter. What can I wear that is practical but not frumpy?

  82. Ding, Ding, Ding! We have a winner! I love this outfit! I could see this becoming a “go-to” for me this fall! Love it Cynid!

  83. Not a fan of any jeans but skinnies. Having said that, you are rocking these and I may have to broaden my horizons!!

  84. I LOVE black tops and blue jeans together. And they always look great on you when you’re styling them. Think I’ll wear this look today too. Thanks!!

  85. I’m also ready for fall, great outfit! Love this formula and will be duplicating once the weather is cooler. Happy Fall🍁🍂!

  86. Love the turtleneck. I haven’t tried the boot cut jeans yet so I need to find a pair. Love this blog and glad I recently found you!

  87. I can not wait to break out my leopard flats, and wear fall clothing. I LOVE summer, but I LOVE fall even more. That said, there is not a season I do not enjoy, and am thankful to live in a 4 season region of the USA.

  88. I always look forward to your emails each day! Love the jeans! I would love to see how you would style a black trench coat for fall. I recently purchased a black London Fog trench coat for church dresses. Have a great day!

  89. Love this outfit and fall! We could definitely use some cooler weather down here in South Florida! Just wanted to say thanks for always putting together some super cute outfits that are fashionable and affordable. You’re my ‘go-to’ when I need inspiration! Blessings!

  90. I’m definitely going to look for that open shoulder turtleneck! Love the open shoulder look for our fall here in Texas. It’s still going to be HOT for awhile and we have to sneak in fall fashion. I’m still on the fence about boot cut jeans. You look great!

  91. Not sure if boot cut will look good on 5’3″ me! I do love the cold shoulder look. It’s tasteful and gives a youthful look!

  92. Love this Fall look! Thank you for always sharing such great inspiration. Also love the daily Beauty for the Heart! Looking forward to seeing what’s trending for outerwear this season!
