Fall Fashion-Striped Dress

Welcome to Day 22 of my 26 Days of Fall Fashion. Boy do these days go by quickly!

Today I’m sharing a striped dress with black boots. Stripes can be tricky. But here are some rules that can help us all wear them, whether we’re petite, regular or plus size.

  • The wider the horizontal, the more your eye will slow down and focus on it. Which means it can make you look wider and for most of us that’s not a good thing.
  • The narrower the stripe, the harder it is for our eye to focus on one line. So narrow horizontals actually start working like verticals, moving the eye up and down, rather than side to side. This is a good thing!
  • Avoid wearing a striped shirt or blouse with a similarly striped pair of pants. As much as possible, striped tops must be paired with non-striped neutral-colored pants or striped skirts must be paired with neutral-colored tops.

This dress falls right in the middle. The stripes aren’t wide but they aren’t super thin. I did find out last year that it’s important to a lot of women that the stripes match up on the sides, if you’ve been following my blog for a while you’ll remember that post. I think we are good with this dress!

Fall Fashion-Striped DressStripes and leopard print are fun to wear together. My leopard print clutch I purchased several years ago, but this one is similar. I really like this one but it’s back ordered until January.

Fall Fashion-Striped DressMy black boots are no longer available. I have ordered these from Loft. The chunky heel is an updated look and they were 40% off this past week.

Fall Fashion-Striped DressI’m not sure if stripes are the most figure flattering but I do love them.

Here are some tall black boots that I found online. I wear black boots a lot in the fall and winter.

Do you wear stripes or do you stay away from them?

Beauty For the Heart~~“As I stumble through this life help me to create more laughter than tears, dispense more cheer than gloom, spread more joy than despair. Never let me become so indifferent that I will fail to see the wonder in the eyes of a child, or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.” ~Nancy Mehl

  1. Love the dress! That particular brand does make sure the stripes match. You styled this brand this summer, too. It was navy with white stripes and bright floral splashes. I bought it and was impressed with the continuation of stripes from front to side/back.

  2. Love this dress on you! You look lovely in black, I think. I’ve been looking into having a color pallet for my wardrobe so that things coordinate and give me more choices. Do you do that or just buy what you like?

  3. You look great!!!! I know I said this before but I have not seen you show us anything that looks bad. You make everything look either fun or classie. I look forward to hearing from you every day wood be nice to meet you some day. Thank you for taking the time to share. 😊

  4. Love stripes but avoid them like the plague! I am plus size with my problem area in the torso- talk about no bueno! That dress looks fabulous on you, though.

  5. Love your outfits….question that is not fashion related….I love your references to the bible and you seem to know it well……
any scriptures or inspiration related to forgiveness…..something i have been encouraged to research personally. Thanks, Maria

    1. Hi Maria,
Here are some scriptures that all talk about forgiveness. I hope that helps!!
      Mark 11:25, Ephesians 4:32, Matthew 6:15, Colossians 3:13.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  6. This dress looks amazing on you, Cyndi! I remember last year’s striped dress. I loved that striped dress. I truly did! I am always drawn to apparel with stripes.
This is a very chic look! 🙂

  7. I also love strips but norammly wear it on a top or tunic but this dress looks fantastic on you! I also remember those wedge boots last season and really liked them. I’m still trying to get use to the new chunky heels. I ordered those nude shoe booties from glamour farms and I’m not sure I’m going to keep them because of the chunky heel but I love the front and the color. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day!

  8. Sweet dress and you wear stripes beautifully !!
My first thought was this outfit would look fantastic at Christmas with a pop of red… scarf maybe or change out for a pair of red pumps and clutch. Endless possibilities with B&W !!

  9. wow I love this outfit!! I love that the dress is so flattering yet it is not tight. I wonder if I could pull this dress off? LOL love it! I just may have to order this! Have a blessed Monday in the Lord today Cyndi. I just said a prayer for you, as the Lord was leading me to do so. xoxo

  10. I love this! What size did you purchase? Small or medium? Is there a lot of stretch in it? Do you feel it s tight across your hips? My hips are larger than yours but about the same size through the shoulders / chest. You look fantastic in it.

  11. I love this dress on you! I have a longer top/swing dress in thin stripes today for the Fall Fashion Challenge. It is getting cooler so sweater weather is on our mind. You look great!

  12. So love this. I’m just a sucker for anything stripes and this is a winner. It looks fantastic on you, you can definitely pull it off. I just bought an adorable and comfortable striped skirt that I really like but like you said, the stripes are wide and I think it’s just not flattering on my larger behind. I didn’t try it on in store with the 3 way mirror so have tried my own version at home and it doesn’t look like it will work – bummer! This works on you though!

  13. Cyndi! This stripped dress looks great on you! Later this week we should be enjoying some fall temps in South Central GA. I can’t wait, especially since it was in the upper 90’s yesterday.

Now that we are living at our home in the country, I feel closer to God and I really see more of the beauty he created.

    Have a blessed day!

  14. WOW I love this dress – and you are wearing it well!!! Also really like those boots – which I have to find a good pair of higher shaft black boots to wear this year, I like the wedge on those. Sad they aren’t still available. Being petite (in height) longer shaft boots can be a challenge because they hit behind my knee in a way that is not comfortable.
I do remember the last striped dress fiasco – LOL, and yes, my OCD self wants those stripes lined up 🙂 – this one is spot on!

  15. Hi, In WV it is going to be in the 60″s all week, I’m ready Ha ! Not everyone can wear the dress, but you wear it well.
You are beautiful, in side as well. Very sweet lady !!! Would Love to meet you. I really look forward to your emails everyday. You are a daily blessing to me. Have a good week, Love In Christ !! your friend Deana
