What To Do When You’re Fearful

What To Do When You're FearfulDo you ever have times when you’re fearful? I do! I start thinking about the “what ifs” and my mind can get the best of me.

If you watch the news, it’s easy to become fearful with all the crazy things that are happening in our world. Shootings, drugs, robberies are all daily occurrences.

Fear is the opposite of faith. Fear is a tool the devil uses against us to make us miserable and it can destroy our lives.

We have all been fearful but we can’t live in fear. I like this quote by Max Lucado. The presence of fear does not mean you have no faith. Fear visits everyone. But make your fear a visitor and not a resident.

I have learned when I start feeling fearful I need to start reading scriptures that can calm my fears and remind me that Jesus is in control. Nothing is a surprise to Him!

So today if you have something that you are fearful about or feeling anxious over, read His word. Know that if Jesus is powerful enough to calm a storm (Mark 4:35-40), He can and will calm our fears.

Here are some scriptures that speak to me when I am fearful:

  • For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.2Timothy 1:7
  • So we can say with confidence “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” Hebrews 13:6
  • Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Luke 12:25-26
  • Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Today, know that with Jesus we have nothing to fear! Do you have a scripture that helps you when you’re fearful?

Sometimes the best thing we can do is to be “still” and know that God is in control. (Psalm 46:10)

Have a blessed Sunday!

  8. Hi Cyndi! I love this post. In today’s world it is so easy to become fearful. I am so thankful that I know the Lord is in control, He’s got this, so when I do get fearful lol I have to do is turn to Him. I love the song by Hillary Scott and the Scott family! I have the CD on my iPhone.

  9. Last night on the way home from celebrating our 37th anniversary my husband told me we wouldn’t be together in heaven. This makes heaven sound terrible to me, I’ve heard believers say that loved ones are reunited in heaven. I love my husband so much and can’t understand, do you have any insight? I’ve been saved 38 years and never been so unsure about Heaven.

    1. Hi Anne, I understand you love your husband and can’t bear the thougth of being apart. We are not married to our sposues in heaven however, we come together as the Bride of Christ and we will be completely fulfilled. Scripture says Heaven is revealed as a social place, where enjoyment and fellowship are set forth under the figure of a feast. Jesus said: “And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 8:11). Assuredly, the patriarchs and prophets knew each other at this holy festival, and so will the saved from every quarter of the earth.
I, for one, am looking forward to the day when I see Jesus’ marvelous face. As the song says… “I can only imagine…”

      1. Hi Anne,
Sometimes it’s difficult to understand scripture and I certainly don’t have all the answers.
But scripture does say in Mark 12:24-25, Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

It has always been my understanding that we will not be married to our spouse. The Bible teaches that there is one marriage in heaven. Christ married to his bride, the Church.

I believe we will know our family and our spouses (because it’s perfect we will love the even more!) but there will be no need for marriage because we will be completely fulfilled with Christ.

Please know that you are going to love heaven so much more than earth. This is not our home!!

        Blessings,
        Cyndi
