My 3 Favorite Camisoles

One of the questions I get asked A LOT is what are my favorite camisoles. There are thousands of camisoles out there and I haven’t tried them all but I do have a few I wear all the time.

A camisole is one of the most versatile pieces of clothing and should be a staple wardrobe piece. Camisoles, also known as camis, can be used to layer underneath a sweater or a low-cut top or shirt. Typically camisoles have “spaghetti” straps.

Here are 3 of my favorite camisoles:

1. Cotton Camisole from Loft

Cotton camisoles are very soft and let your skin breathe, so they are most preferred for everyday wear, especially during summer. Loft’s camisoles has adjustable straps and when I want something light this is my go-to cami.

2. Body-hugging Camisoles (Use graceandbeauty022 for $10 off your Glamour Farms purchase.)

Camisoles  made of soft cotton or stretchable materials such as spandex, nylon, etc., are body hugging and among the most common camisoles for women.

There are many body hugging camis but in full disclosure, Glamour Farms gives me their camis and since I really like them I wear these body hugging camis.

They come in different colors and when I want a cami with a slimming effect, this is what I wear.

3. Lace Camisoles

A lace camisole is a classic that can add elegance and a feminine touch to any outfit. Available in many shades, they can be teamed up with different tops and dresses.

Here is an example of how I wear a lace cami (This outfit is from 2015 and no longer available.)

Delicate and stylish, camisoles help shape and support, giving you a smooth silhouette. Layering is very much in vogue these days and camisoles are a great wardrobe staple.

  1. I realize I’m coming to this post late… I searched your blog for a perfect tank/cami because I have tried so many out there and have yet to fall in love with any. I’m 5’6, 150 lbs and prefer to keep my muffin top snug with a good , breathable tight fitting tank to keep things looking smooth. I’m ordering a few lace camis but the $10 off promo you offer doesn’t seem to be working… typically how long do those promo codes last? Thanks so much for sharing your input on these tanks! I’m glad you did because I’ve heard from many friends about these…. can’t wait for mine to arrive!

  2. Thanks so much for the Loft cami suggestion. I picked up 2 yesterday during Loft Outlet’s in-store Presidents Day Sale (2 for $10 ! )and I wore one last night. Felt very comfortable and has a very clean and classy look!

  3. I second Jana’s comments on the JCP Worthington camis. I wear a cami every day. Like her I have a collection of both the thin and thick strapped JCP camis . If frugality is in your personal goals , I highly recommend this product. Some of mine are embarrassingly old but they launder well, keep their shape and wear extremely well.

When JCP has a sale , you can easily puck them up for $7.

As a plus because of the spandex blend , it provides a little extra confidence , as it creates an extra smooth look under a tighter fit tops.

  4. Love camis , have them is all colors, but only wear them when a blouse is too thin or low cut. I don’t wear them all the time. Not a preference of mine. God Bless….

  5. I wear a camisole under my shirts or sweaters in winter instead of an undershirt. I buy mine from Forever 21. They are really cheap, but I have worn them for a long time without a problem. The best part is that they don’t have a ‘bra’ which I have had to cut out of more expensive brands.

  6. I like wearing Camus especially in the winter because they keep me warmer. I like old navy
Cotton ones. I would love to find a fitted one that smooths out areas but all of the one I have tried ended up rolling up within 2-3 hours. If you know of one that doesn’t roll up, please let me know!

    1. Kohl’s carries a nice cami from Apt 9 that works great underneath clothing. It does have spandex so it creates a smooth layer and are available in a variety of colors. Catch them on sale and with a coupon and you have yourself a deal!

  7. Loft Camis were on sale today for $10 in multiple
colors. Love that they are light weight and have adjustable straps. My second favorite cami would
be the Vera Wang brand sold at Kohl’s.

  8. I am so glad to hear so many other ladies love to wear camis UNDER their clothes! Around here, so many women wear camis as their only top, and I do not like the way it looks. And age and body type don’t seem to matter. I know it’s not up to me what other people wear, nor should I worry about what other people are wearing, but I just can’t help but think “excuse me, miss, but you forgot your top!” I am just not comfortable wearing a cami as a top. To me, it’s an undergarment.

  9. I wear a cami to work everyday………..I get mine from JCPenney – the Worthington brand. I have not found a cami that compares to these over the past 10 years………they now offer the wide strap which I love.

  10. I also wear a cami of some sort almost every day. Love them! And have several brands. My favorite are the Maurices camis but they don’t make the style I have any longer. I haven’t tried Loft. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Great recommendations!

  11. Love Camis but I find they all differ in how they fit! How do the Loft ones run? True to size? Cyndi what size are you wearing?

  12. I prefer the LOFT tanks over the camis. I don’t like the cami’s thin straps or the “elasticized bra” that comes with some camis – I have been known to cut these out. (I surely can’t wear a cami without a bra!!) I like the LOFT tanks to cover my bra straps when wearing a sheer blouse; they are not thick-strapped tanks but enough to cover my bra strap. I really hate visible bra straps! I don’t want to see other people’s undergarments, and I definitely don’t want mine to show. 🙂

    1. I’m with you on the visible bra straps, Anita!! My ultimate pet peeve with that is in church! I’m not a Mom of girls and haven’t had to have that fight. But I think if I were, I would win!!

    2. I love LOFT tank tops so I can wear a bra under them. Very comfortable, and the fabric is so soft. The colors are really nice as well.

    3. Anita, do you buy LOFT’s Essential Tank? It looks like it’s pretty low in the neckline, and if I’m wearing it under an already too low top, I’d like one that comes up a little higher. What do you think? Is there another LOFT’s tank you buy? Thanks!

      1. I think some of mine are Essential Tanks and you’re right they are a little low cut, but my favorite ones are ribbed (not sure of the name), which do not seem to be in stock. Honestly, I wear mine mostly with sheer tops and not as much with low-cut tops. And with the way LOFT changes their styles from season to season, you never know if they’re gonna be the same as last year’s. I’m in agreement with you on needing tanks underneath low cut tops, as I dress very modestly. Maybe you could order one of the essential tanks (they’re 40% off) and give it a try? (If you place an order at the store you get free shipping.) I looked for them in my local LOFT store yesterday and they have not received tanks for the season yet (although they did have camis). :/

  13. I like camisole haven’t found right one yet. This will help I really like the pink top you have on with the white shorts. Is that new if so where can I go to find it. Good luck tonight.

  14. I so wanted to do the oils class, but will be at a basketball game-story of my life(I love it:)! I also wear a cami almost every day now. I LOVE the long ones from Glamour Farms-it helps me get to wear almost everything with leggings! I don’t mind leggings if the front is covered-I don’t even mind the booty uncovered so much-but girls-cover that frontal area in leggings please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

  15. I wear some type of cami everyday. I also like the Loft one you posted, but generally buy the Nordstrom one in the teenage section with t-straps, as they don’t’ have the adjustable strap like the Loft one and so more comfortable. I wear size small in Loft but size Large in the Nordstrom one, so a must to try on for fit. For heavier sweaters and when I want to be warmer, I have always worn the regular tank top ones at Target in size medium. They are great. They last forever.

  16. Yes! I now wear cami’s practically every day! I also love the standard cotton tanks that are fitted from target… I use them like cami’s fairly often, depending on the weather…

  17. What kind of bra do you wear under the spaghetti strap camis? I don’t often wear camis because of this undergarment issue.

  18. Love Glamour Farms camps. I have to wear a cami. I did not have reconstruction after a single mastectomy so when I bend over you can see right down my shirt. This cami covers well, plus I love the longer length. It stays in place all day and gives a longer look to many tops. I also like that it is reversible for a v or round neck. Thank you for sharing this cami with us.

  19. I am so sorry, Cyndi…. but will there be a link for the class this evening….do we go directly to your blog or will we be sent something via email so we can connect directly… I am looking forward to it…and don’t want to miss it!!!!

  20. Hi Cyndi, could you clarify the time for tonight’s oil class. Your email says 7:EST and the reservation email says 7:CST.
Thank you so much for having this class, looking forward to learning a lot.

  21. I love a good cami, especially the nylon/spandex body-hugging type. They make a sweater hang smoothly over my body, and just feel good. But because I live in a particularly hot and humid area of the south near the Mississippi River, I just cannot wear two layers of top in the summer. Over the past decade or so it seems like summer clothes have gotten very thin and sheer. A cami can make a kind of sheer top look more modest, look cute, and add interest to an outfit, but here it all just sticks to you. I wish they’d bring back some nice weight, opaque, 100% cotton tops –I never used to have this trouble!

    1. I so agree with this comment about living in the South. I rarely rare a cami as I live along the Gulf Coast. In the summer, you will just have it sticking to your body making you feel ever more hot! I…also…sure wish the thicker t-shirts would come back so I can rare them. So many items I just don’t buy because they are too thin and can’t wear a cami most of the year.

    2. I totally agree with the t-shirt thickness comments. I thought it was just me but I remember wearing white t-shirts during the 80’s through early 3000’s and never having an issue. Now they seem paper thin and I just can’t find any worth my money.

    3. I have to agree with the problem of trying to find a decent weight top, so many are very thin or sheer. It’s especially hard in the summer months and I live in CO so we don’t deal with humidity on top of heat. Is it just me or do others feel that unless it’s a tunic, most tops are just too clingy and thin for comfort. I find myself tying to size up in tops so the’re not so form fitting but then they’re often look too large in the shoulders and/or necklines.

    4. I understand completely the struggle to find a white tee that is not see through. I would suggest trying Lands End for tees. The have a shaped and a relaxed version for a fit selection. I have found the shaped in my normal size hangs just right without too much cling and you can’t see through my white tee. Good luck!

  22. I have found Costco to be a good source of Camis too. Especially if your like me and wear them out because you wear them so often. I get the staple white and black in the multi pack.

  23. Looks like I’m the odd ball because I do not like wearing cami’s at all. The ones that are supposed to smooth you out do not smooth my mid section. I’ve not worn one yet that stays put. I have bought several GF ones along with other brands.

  24. Yup! I’m a cami Grammy! Like you, I have a variety for each situation. I found one with lace spaghetti straps that has a v-neck on one side & strait on the other. That way you can wear it either way! This one is my favorite, so I have it in nude & black. My favorite cold weather one is a tank top style from Lands End line of Thermaskins. Lastly, if I need some slimming (and I certainly do) I have a cami from Lunaire. It’s quite long so not only does it give me a flatter tummy area but it reaches to mid-hip, so I tuck it in my undies for an all over slimmer look. The drawback to this one is that it’s gathered in the bust area, so you don’t get a great smooth look on a thinner top & the nude is somewhat dark. I ordered up 2 sizes & it’s a perfect comfy fit. I like the look of the longer shaper one from Glamour Farms, so I may have to give that one a try! As always, thank you Cyndi for posting a Beauty for the Heart message!

  25. I do wear them sometimes. My body hugging one has wider straps in nude color and can show under some tops at the shoulder area so that is why I don’t wear it always. I have colored camis in my drawer with all colors& neutrals. I also have these cami things that just go under your bra area with smooth elastic there and then the kind that snap over your bra straps to make it look like you are wearing a cami. My thoughts on the cami situation is that the retailers & people who make& design clothes have done this to make all these sleeveless & very lowcut dresses we all own work year round. YOu have a layering piece underneath to disguise the low cut and sheerness and a shrug on top to not freeze in the AC and show your arms if you haven’t been to the gym in awhile. Plus you can wear the dress all year long . It sells more clothes and pieces and you have more to put on. I’m like…..just put some sleeves in the dresses! 🙂 These are just my thoughts .

  26. I love JCPenney Worthington camisole’s and wear one about every day. They come in thin and wide strap and have some spandex in them. They are very comfortable and do not ride. The quality is also great!

    1. I have been on a hunt for any tank or camisole that does not right up but have not found one yet. I can’t stand adjusting my clothes all day every time I stand up!! When did clothes get to be so high maintenance?? I also don’t like them to be super long as I am short waisted.

  27. Yes love camisoles … Not a fan
Of the fitted ones they tend to
    Ride up on me.
Prefer the loose ones and lace
    Makes it so pretty.
    Welcome to Illinois tomm!
We will be having sunny warm
    Weather! Yay!

  28. It’s funny because I used to think camis were old fashioned since my mom (the 70’s model on my blog) used to wear them under her clothes (not so they would show). Of course this is when they were more lingerie material and not pretty colors either.
But luckily I got smarter and realized how versatile they can be. Especially with low cut dresses or shirts!!

  29. I registered for tonight’s essential oils online class. .do I simply go to your website to participate? Are there special details, i.e., username or passwords I need..
    Thank you! Susan Ross

  30. YES to a cami – I wear one almost everyday. They have become such a part of my “underwear” that I feel like something is missing if I don’t have one on. They do smooth things out and keep the cleavage concealed – which is nice in an office environment. Thanks for the great suggestions!
    Looking forward to tonight!!!
