Frequently Asked Questions

Good morning ladies! First, thank you for your sweet comments on my post yesterday. I was overwhelmed reading them. Your prayers mean so much to us and we know God has great plans in store for Courtney and Colt. Thank you again!

Do you remember at the beginning of the year, I asked you to fill out a survey? I continue to refer back to it and my goal this year is to get my blog more organized. I want it be as easy to read as possible.

When I started this blog in 2009, I had no idea that it would grow to the size it is today. I remember when I would get maybe 2 emails a week.

As you can imagine, I get a lot more emails now and I try my best to answer them but some weeks I just can’t seem to get it all done.

I love, love, love to hear from you and I always want you to feel you can email me. But I have noticed over the last year, I keep getting asked the same questions so I thought I would add a Frequently Asked Questions page to my blog.

So lets pretend we’re sitting around the table at my favorite coffee shop and I’m going to answer the questions I get asked the most often.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How did you get started blogging?

I started blogging in 2009. My Mom introduced me to the blogging world and encouraged me to start one. I started with a lifestyle blog but after attending a blogging conference, I felt God leading me to write about my love for fashion and makeup.

I felt I could reach more women and not only share about fashion but my faith in Jesus. That’s how Walking In Grace & Beauty started.

2. I would love to start a blog could you give me some advice?

The best place I can send you for help on starting a blog is to Amy Lynn Andrews. If you have a question, Amy has an answer!! Her post on How To Start A Blog in 15 Minutes or Less is a great place to start.

Blogging is a wonderful thing but it does take time and commitment. The best advice I can give you is to start a blog on something you love.

Also attend a blogging conference. These have been big helps for me with blogging.

3. Do you really make money blogging?

Yes. But it has taken me years to get to this point. If you’re starting a blog to make money, there are easier ways to make money, I promise.

Most of us that make money have had to work very hard to get to this point but it can be done. Just know you have to be patient, it doesn’t typically happen over night.

4. Where did you get the wall art that’s in your pictures?

I think this is the #1 question I get! Several year ago, I met Dee at a blogging conference. She has a wonderful business called Red Letter Words. You’ll love her wall art!

5. How tall are you? What size do you wear?

Another question I get all the time. I’m 5’6″ and I generally wear a size 6 or 8 in pants and a small or medium in a top. I hope that helps!

6. Do you workout everyday? What workout do you use?

No. I don’t like to exercise but I do it because I know it’s good for me. I do like to walk in warm weather but I can’t do it when the weather is cold.

I use Denise Austin DVD’s that I order from Amazon.

7. Can you tell us about your family?

Hmm. What to say? I’m married to Wayne.

He’s a pastor and that makes me the pastor’s wife. We love doing ministry together. One of our favorite things is speaking together at marriage retreats. We love to encourage couples!

Here are some other things you may not know about me!

  • I love chocolate although I limit myself these days. I also love coffee and can’t wait to get up and have that first cup!
  • I’m an early riser! Any where between 4:30 and 5:30. I love mornings!
  • My husband and I both have our concealed weapons license.

Okay, are there any other questions you think I need to add to this list? I would love your input!

Beauty For the Heart~~ I love discipleship classes and I’m starting a new one this week at our church. I’ve done this study before but it’s so good, it’s worth doing again. It’s Experiencing God by Henry & Richard Blackaby.

I’ll be sharing some of this with you, but here’s a quote from the book. “Real Christianity is not merely a religion; it is a relationship with a Person.”

Have a blessed day!

  1. Cyndi, I have been following your blog abt a year now and really just love it. I kept picturing things in my mind about you…felt sure you were a southern girl ( like me ), could tell immediately you were a Christian ( like me ), then saw the UK sweatshirt in a picture the other day, and thought “Holy Stars!” A Big Blue Fan too! I am a Louisvillian , and graduated in 1986 from UK. We are just down the road from each other! Know wonder I can relate to so much you have to say ! ( But must admit I just turned 50 last April! ) Keep up the great blog. Maybe we could meet up and have coffee!?… Since we’re practically neighbors , my sister!

  2. Experiencing God by Henry & Richard Blackaby. Do you think one of your readers could benefit from obtaining this book or is it best experienced in a class? Your quote is one that our pastor reminds us of nearly everytime whether from the pulpit or a visiting situation. I think it may be one of his favorite reminders.

  3. Hi Cyndi –

Wow, I love that you shared this post! We have so much in common – hairstyle, similar fashion style and eating 100% organic! I also have a wonderful son and daughter! My son is 24 and my daughter is 21 and I am so blessed at their wonderful spirits! I do exercise every day faithfully because I love the energy it gives me. And I am not an early morning riser unless I have to be. I was a dental assistant for years but now work from home as a Medical Transcriptionist so I can sleep in if I want to! I would love to blog on decorating ideas – I love to find “curbside deals” and then refurbish them and have had so much fun decorating on a dime! Thanks for your beautiful smile and words of grace and wisdom! You make my day happier! 🙂

  4. umm…I’m fairly certain we would be great friends! I had a later start with my family, but I’m 43 and my boys are 9, 7, and almost 6… I homeschool, so coffee and chocolate are 2 of my basic food groups, along with peanut butter and cookies! (hah!)…. I do run on a regular basis and spend a lot of the day in what I slept in the night before (sweats!), but I love to dress nicely so I don’t embarrass my engineer, hunter, fisherman, southern Indiana husband!
I have a degree in nursing which I now only use to take my children’s temperatures with!
I love Jesus…I love what He did for me… I hope to be a light in dark places and help my children shine their own light!
I’m also a HUGE Downton Abbey fan 🙂
this was such a fun post of yours!!

  5. Cyndi, you are a blessing in so many ways! Love your blog & your attitude!
God bless you & your family.
PS I have never had as much fun with clothes as I’m having now!! Thanks to you 🙂

  6. That was a fun and interesting post. That picture of you is so cute! love it! Thanks for your heart. You are a blessing,

  7. Wow Rachel, congratulations on losing 50+ lbs. I’m so glad my blog has helped with some of your fashion and makeup.
Hug your daughter for me!! 🙂
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  8. I would love to dress corporate everyday! 🙂
Yes, I do wear something comfortable and easy to change. I’ve learned that the hard way!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  9. I do eat sweets but I limit them. When I’m craving something sweet I eat dark chocolate or a bowl of organic cereal with some honey.
When I bake, I use organic sugar.
    I hope that helps!
    Cyndi

  10. Yes Ginny, if I learned anything in 22 years o ministry, everyone has struggles. I’m so sorry for your struggles. Especially to be widowed at such a young age!
Thank you for stopping by and sharing,
    Cyndi

  11. Cyndi –
I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now…and I love it! The post, yesterday, resonated with me in several ways. I was married in 1991, had that same song as the first dance at our reception…and I’m the wife of a Pastor! Your words of encouragement, suggestions for style and your overall cheerful spirit brighten my days. Thank you!!! 🙂

  12. Thank you for answering questions and for being so personable! Your transparency is very refreshing. I’m not sure how I stumbled upon your blog but I have really enjoyed it the few weeks I have been reading. I have lost 50+ lbs. in the past few months and have been working to “update” my style. I love your fashion and makeup ideas which is probably how I found you. I have purchased a few things similar to things I have seen in your outfit pics and I am feeling better about myself. I have a few more lbs. to lose so I don’t want to purchase too much. 🙂 Thanks again. btw…my 12 year old daughter was looking at your pictures and said that you look “younger” because of the clothes you wear. It makes me want to shop!!

  13. Cindy, I also found you on Pinterest and LOVE your style of clothing. I am 43 and dress very “corporate” for my job, which I actually don’t mind. It’s my casual style that needs some updating and revamping. I saw your blog and told my 14 year old daughter, “This is it. She’s how I want to look.” So slowly but surely, my DD is helping me with my casual style. A question that both my daughter and I have is what do you wear when you are going clothes shopping? Do you plan an outfit that makes it easy to get changed several times in the dressing rooms? God bless you and your family.

  14. Very neat post, Cyndi! You are one of my favorite bloggers and I follow you all the time, but there was one thing that SHOCKED me! lol. You are an early riser!!!! I love the morning and my husband and I are both happy and talk the second we roll out of bed, but I cannot get outta there before 7 🙁 haha… but good for you. A dear friend always says Im missing the best part of the day 🙂 Blessings, Cyndi!

  15. Cyndi,
I found you through Pinterest. I had been looking to update my closet as of late (I’m now closer to 50 than 49) and I really like your style and clothing choices. I have also enjoyed reading your blogs. Thanks for sharing. I’ll be praying for your family’s continued healing. Have a great week!
    Muriel from Tennessee (GoVols!)

  16. Hi there, I just found your blog and love it! You have a beauty and grace that radiates from you! I love the way you give God glory through your blog. May God bless you and your family.

  17. Just loved this. Thank you for sharing. So difficult when our children are hurting, will keep you all in our prayers for God’s healing. You have a beautiful family <3

  18. Hi Cindi
Obviously you don’t have a height issue, but I do. I’m only 5 foot tall. I’d love some advise on fashion for us short people! Love your blog!

  19. hi Cyndi…love your idea of “frequently asked questions”. You always come up with the neatest ideas. One question I would love you to answer is about your “clean eating” since you answered the one about exercise. I know you said you eat very little processed food, but what other staples do you have in your cupboards? Do you eat any sweets? This is my downfall and would love to hear how you eliminated those from your diet. Love the photo of you sitting on the couch with your cup of coffee!!

  20. Love that you have your concealed handgun license – so do I!!! And I am a girly girl, too. And I’m a retired pastor’s wife with a husband who still preaches in rural churches every Sunday. It’s been a great adventure. Have a verse for Courtney – Deuteronomy 31:8 – my life verse which God has used to comfort and support me many, many times!

  21. Thank you Cyndi for taking time to answer questions:) I seriously love that you shared your concealed handgun license… It made me laugh because all I could think of was Sandra Bullock in “The Blind Side” Ha ha! Blessings! Krista

  22. I read about your family yesterday…and can honestly feel your pain. Every family has their “stuff”….. and I hurt for those that have no faith. What must they do??!! I was a widow suddenly at 51….have 2 adopted daughters (one with borderline personality disorder – very very difficult) and 2 biological daughters (who are now not speaking – ugh – breaks my heart) I never had a sister – so don’t understand sister relationships very well. But – as a mom I grieve. My daughter with borderline personality had a child…is NOT capable of caring for her…and is not allowing me to see the little girl. I pray for her daily….again – breaking hearts. I am thankful your daughter and grandson have moved in with you. I know that can be difficult as well – but what a blessing you are able to be to them. I will continue reading your blog…….I too LOVE fashion! I’m only 5′ 2” and 125 lbs………but have used many of your cute ideas!! (I’m a scarf lover as well….however I have to be careful….some of them overwhelm me because of my lack of height! ha. Anyway – blessings to you and your family!!!!

  23. WOW, that was the best informative background check …..hee hee I loved it!! Now I feel that I know you better. I would some day love to meet you in person. You and your family sound and look very lovely.
I am a ministers wife also, so I can relate in that area. We have lived in Italy as missionaries, we have lived in Ohio and Indiana where my hubby pastored and now we are in KY.doing mission work and traveling to all other states as my hubby ministers in churches that invite him. We have 4 children, eldest son graduated college with a bachelor degree in Criminal justice and going into the Army for Army Patrol. Second son is in college, freshman. I home school my two daughters(as I did my sons) and our oldest daughter is a Jr. and the youngest is in 6th. We all love to hike, fish, travel, but no hunting. We eat lots of raw food…I am recently 100% raw food. I love to garden for our veggies and reap from our fruit and nut trees. My son and hubby took a months trip back to Italy in 09 and now our Italian friends are coming to visit us this year from Rome Italy.
I wish you and your family all that God can bless you with in this new year of 2014, always in my prayers!! Love in Christ and another fashion loving friend, Kerri
