Simply Sunday….3 Ways To Keep Christ in Christmas

With Christmas fast approaching you may feel like I do……overwhelmed! As I was thinking about everything I need to do I began to think about the most important thing…..Jesus Christ and His birthday. What am I going to do for Him? What am I doing to keep Christ in Christmas?

Here are 3 ways to keep Christ in Christmas:

1. If you send Christmas cards this year make sure they share Christ. This is a NO BRAINER! My Mom instilled this in me her whole life. She thought it was important to send cards with the true message of Christmas. Today, more than ever as the world tries to keep Christ out of Christmas we need to take a stand and send cards that share the true message of Christmas. “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.”  Romans 1:16

2. Do more giving than receiving. Acts 20:35 says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” I’m not talking about giving to our children or grandchildren. Let’s be honest most of our children have more than they need. Do they really need another video game? The giving that I’m talking about is to people who aren’t expecting it. A gift of food, or money to someone who is truly in need will not only bless them but will bless you too.

3. Read the Christmas story. This sounds simple and it is!! But how many people go through the Christmas season and never open their Bibles and read the scripture (and I’m not counting your pastor reading the scripture from the pulpit on Sunday morning). Mathew 1 and Luke 2 both tell the story of Jesus’ birth. This Christmas season spend some quiet time reading this scripture and meditate on how amazing this moment truly was. John 1:14a says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” That is amazing!!!

My prayer for you and your family is that this year more than ever, your Christmas will be about Christ. He is worth it!!

  1. I am a firm believer in sharing your faith in the little things we do as a family, including Christmas cards. So glad your mom instilled that in you.

For some reason as I was reading your post I thought about how the guy who researched “The Star of Bethlehem” shares the Gospel. I mean, it’s so powerful! Have you ever seen it? He has a dvd out but it’s soooooo much more powerful if you see him present it in person. I had held it together until the very end…and when he showed the last frame (which I won’t tell you about unless you ask since I hope you’ll rent the dvd and watch it! Hee hee hee) I LOST it! God uses His universe in such powerful ways!

Not sure why it made me think of that, but there you go. ; )
