Wanda’s Kitchen….A Note

Wanda's Kitchen is a weekly post dedicated to my Mom. She was a contibuting foods editor to our local newsapaper and to HomeLife Magazine. Mom went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2009.

No recipe today just a note.

So many of you have responded when I share something Mom has written.

Mom was a writer….not of books, or of  blogs (although she did start a blog called Walking with the Lord).

I knew she was a writer but I didn’t realize how much she wrote until after she passed away.

We have journal after journal of Mom’s writings.

She wrote about her relationship with the Lord.

She wrote letters to her children and her grandchildren reminding us of things we said and did and always about how much she loved us.

As you can imagine these are priceless to us.

Mom has passed down a legacy of faith and it’s now our responsibility to share it with others.

I recently came across this note Mom had written and it says so much about Mom’s heart………….

So today Mom you’re still telling others about Jesus!! That is exactly what she would want!

Thank you Mom for sharing Jesus with us!

What are you doing to pass down a legacy of faith in your children?

  1. My own mother died under tragic circumstances. But how she loved the Lord! I remember coming home at curfew as a teenager, and this happened all the time, and finding her writing in her journal. After she passed, I found those journals and she was writing down her prayers for us. There are pages and pages and book after book. I know it made a difference in my life and who I am. So, I pray for my own children. All the time. And very specifically. They are still too young to see what the Lord might be doing in them, but I am so thankful He hears our prayers as mothers and they are not in vain!

  2. Hi Cyndi! I was so excited to find your blog! I have always enjoyed your sisters’ and feel drawn to the 2 of you because of the very close relationship I have with my own sweet sister.:-)
We actually just launched a new blog together (we each have individual ones as well) and hope it will be a place where women can share, care and inspire one another…and have fun too of course! When I see the word legacy it makes me think of that song “I want to leave a legacy, how will they remember me, did I choose to love, did I point to You?” And I love that with blogging we have a unique opportunity to point to Him in a brand new way and reach people we never would have been able to before. (Sorry for this crazy book-long comment!) I too have journals for my children where I write down all of the funny things they say and write letters to them in it expressing my love for them. What a privelege you have those from your mom! It is so obvious in the way that you and your sister engage with others that she left behind a very, very rich legacy of love and faith. Thanks so much for sharing it with us!
    Vanessa

  3. How Awesome is this!! First, that you have all of these handwritten journals & letters from your mom…Second, that you are able to carry on her legacy not only with this letter, but also with your blog! I think your heart & Traci’s heart are very much like your mom’s! You both share your faith and your love for Jesus in a very open and awesome way!

Thanks for sharing this message!! It is so very important! I pray at least weekly for God to give me the courage & the boldness to be able to tell others about him! We can so easily sit down with family & friends and talk about everyday life and other things that we enjoy or are passionate about, but when it comes to Jesus, there is always that hesitation! I hate that! It shouldn’t be that way!

  4. Whoo, Cyndi. What a question. What am I doing to pass down a legacy of faith?? Sometimes it feels as if what I’m really doing is passing down a legacy of fear. And that’s not what I want to do.

Every now and then I need someone to say “Eyes off yourself! Eyes on Jesus!” That’s what you’ve done today. You and your precious mom.

I look forward to meeting Wanda in heaven some day and telling her “Thank you!” in person. 🙂

    Love you!
