Good morning! Well, I’m back home and I’ve got a lot of unpacking and laundry to do. Oh fun! I always pack more than I need and then I spend half the day putting it all back.
As I was looking at my wardrobe I realized I have some basic pieces that I wear a lot and I’m always mixing and matching them with other pieces.
So today, I wanted to share 8 basic wardrobe essential that we all need.
These are the pieces that need to last. I would suggest buying them at places like Banana Republic, Gap, or J. Crew or find them at my personal favorite store, TJ Maxx.
Here are the 8 basic wardrobe essentials:
A sophisticated white collared shirt and a long sleeve and short sleeve white t-shirt. These are great for layering!
A Chambray Shirt. The Chambray shirt can be dressed up or dressed down. Great fitting jeans. I recommend having jeans you can wear with high heels and another pair to wear with flats. Jo-Lynne at Musings of a Housewife wrote a great post on Finding the Right Jeans. You can check it out here.
A slimming A-line skirt and a “little black dress”. These are a closet staple, and should be made of a sturdy but lightweight fabric like a cotton/rayon blend. Avoid heavy wool fabrics that counteract the slimming effects of the color and limit wear during the warmer seasons.
A black blazer and a pair of dress pants in gray, black or camel.
These 8 basic wardrobe essentials are great pieces to have in your closet. Now we just need to add color! Go here as we talk about adding color and what colors look best on you!

Yay! I have all those things except for a black blazer….I have red, green, blue, aqua, pink, beige, white, grey, charcoal and navy, though! I feel like I am off to a good start, at least! Now, to put them together and not look like a frumpasuarus….:-)
