5 Foods That Will Give Your Skin a Healthy Glow

This past weekend, I was reading an interview with renowned makeup artist, Bobbi Brown.

Bobbi Brown has great makeup and I love her tips for women over 40.

One of the questions they asked her was, “What’s the secret to your beautiful skin?”

Bobbi Brown answered, “I gotta be honest, as much as I think I make the best cream,

it’s not the answer. I swear, the answer is that I’ve really cleaned up my diet, and

the majority of my foods are fruits and vegetables, and it helps my skin.”

I knew I should have listened to my Mom when she said to eat your

fruits and vegetables!!

Okay, let’s stop spending endless hours at the cosmetic counter looking for

some “magic in a bottle”.

Instead, let’s head to the grocery store or our local farmer’s market and look

for some summer fruits and vegetables.

Here are some hydrating and nutrient-rich foods you can eat this

summer that will give you a youthful glow:

  • Avocados:

Avocados contain vitamins A, C and E, iron, potassium, niacin,

mono-unsaturated healthy fat and protein. Believe it or not, avocados contain

more vitamin E than any other fruit and vitamin E helps neutralize

cell-damaging free radicals.

~Try adding avocado to your salads or sandwiches.

  • Blueberries:

Blueberries, along with other types of berries and fruits, contain

antioxidants that help fight harmful free radicals in our body. Yeah!

Blueberries are also loaded with vitamin C, which is important for the synthesis

of collagen, a protein that helps keep skin elastic and can help reduce skin

damage caused by free radicals.

~Add blueberries to your cereal every morning!

  • Cucumbers:

Does placing sliced cucumbers over your eyes really help

reduce those bags? Yes, it sure does!

Cucumbers are used to treat wrinkles and reduce inflammation.

~Place sliced cucumbers over your eyelids for 10 to 20 minutes to reduce inflammation.

  • Sweet potato:

Orange vegetables, including sweet potato, carrots and squash,

are high in the antioxidant beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A.

Vitamin A is a major player in the growth, development and maintenance of

healthy looking skin.

~Enjoy baked sweet potato instead of white potato and add carrots to your salad.

  • Tomatoes:

Tomatoes contain collagen-building vitamin C, beta-carotene and lycopene.

Lycopene is an antioxidant that can actually help prevent the skin from being sunburned.

Tomatoes not only safeguard your skin cells, but thanks to the pigment luetin, they also

help hydrate the skin and increase its elasticity.

~Load those salads up with some tomatoes!

Are you eating your fruits and vegetables?

Thanks for stopping by and I pray you have a blessed day!
