5 Tips to Update Your Fall Wardrobe

5-tips-to-update-your-fall-wardrobe

I love this time of year! The leaves are just beginning to turn and the air seems to have a different feel.

With the start of September (which is this Saturday!) we begin to have some cooler days and that means we start pulling out our fall clothes. This is a great time to start looking at what you already have and then begin to add some key pieces to help update your fall wardrobe.

Being fashionable can be fun and easy when you know what to shop for. This fall is full of color and accessories that can help us all look our best!

Here are 5 tips to help you update your fall wardrobe:

Build on the basics. Every woman should have a black and white tank top, a black and white tee-shirt, a black turtleneck, black pants, a white button-down shirt and a little black dress. These items are always in fashion and can be used as the basics for building your fall wardrobe.

If you have a limited budget, spend it on accessories. Accessories can really update a look. A skinny belt around a bulky sweater creates a whole different look. Add a chunky necklace, an eye catching ring or bangle bracelets. Accessories can turn something blah into something fabulous!

Animal prints are still hot. You can play it safe by mixing them with a solid color, or take a little risk and mix it up with a complimentary print. Adding animal print to your fall wardrobe is a quick and easy update.

Scarfs are my favorite accessory for fall. Not only do they look great but as colder weather approaches they help to keep you warm. There are lots of styles to choose from and lots of ways to tie them around your neck. Scarfs help add color to the gray and black that’s so prevalent this time of year.

Boots are a fall favorite! High-heels or flats, short or tall, boots are everywhere this season. Boots can be worn with dresses and jeans and will make any outfit look amazing!

  1. I am so glad I found your site on Pinterest… I clicked to follow you on Facebook, so delighted to find a sister in Christ {and a fashion forward one, at that!} Be sure to remember if you have a limited budget Goodwill and thrift stores have some beautiful pieces! Pulling out my leopard print jacket and boots… xoxo jules

  2. Cyndi, thank you for sharing these great ideas. I need to revamp my wardrobe and I love the idea of starting with scarves and incorporating some animal prints!

  3. I’m very excited about updating my wardrobe this year. I do focus more on the accessories, and replacing “worn out” fabrics from pieces. And now that I’m selling accessories (jewelry and more!) it’s even more fun! I do love the classics! Audrey Hepburn has always been my fashion icon!

  4. Thanks for the tips, Cyndi.
I found a couple scarves and some necklaces (all on sale) recently. They will be great for fall.
I loooove summer and I’m not looking forward to it ending, but at least I have a reason to go shopping and also to wear the new accessories I already bought.

  5. I usually wear a solid colored shirt and then add colorful scarfs. Try adding an animal print!
I think tall women look great in the riding flat boots (like the one in the middle).
I’m not going to Allume this year 🙁 I’ve been the last two and loved it! I decided to go to one a little closer. It’s the Influence Conference. I would have loved to have met you too!!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  6. Great ideas Cindi! Thanks. I love scarves and boots. Definitely getting some animal print ballet shoes this year. Just have to find the right ones that are cute and comfey.

  7. I have been looking at scarves this year and knew they much be the latest fashion… do yo suggest a solid color shirt with a colorful/printed scarf? Boots- not sure about them, I am tall and they just make me taller lol! Are you going to be at Allume? I hope to meet you if you are! Thanks for the tips for fall!

  8. Love the idea of more scarves..I only have two….I found a really cute cardigan the other day but it wasn’t on sale enough…..need some skinny jeans too.

I need some tank tops…good quality ones as well.

I have purchased a cute pair of booties…but that’s about it.

  9. I love the scarf look, but I’m not sure how to wear them, if I can at all. I’m petite and scarves look like they over power me. Same thing with larger necklaces and bracelets. Is there a way that petite women can make scarves work?

  10. I can totally do that – I’m not a big scarf wearer….so that may be the only one I don’t do {and it’s so warm here in SoCal here in the fall}. I LOVE the low boots and need to look into a pair of those. I was at a CAbi party on Saturday and she said that booties were in style too. So many great tips!! Thanks, Cyndi!
