Day {9} Skincare: Fashion & Beauty For Women Over 40

I think most of us want to look and feel our best and skincare is an important part of our daily routine. We could spend days on skincare and everyone seems to have a different opinion on which products work and which products we should use.

We’re going to keep it simple and talk about a 3 step program and I’ll share the products I’m using right now. I don’t think we have to spend a fortune to have great skin.

1. Cleanse-Obviously, we need to cleanse our skin morning and night. We want to get rid of makeup and other things that clog our pores. Olay has great cleansers that you can pick up at your local drugstore.

2.Exfoliate-As we age, our skin tone can become rough, uneven and blotchy. We need to regularly exfoliate our skin to help keep it looking fresh and smooth. I use Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. I love the way it makes my face feel!

3. Moisturize-We need to add moisture to our skin to help plump up our skin. I moisturize morning and night. I’m using Olay Regenerist micro-sculpting cream in the morning and Regenerist Night Recovery cream at night.

For my eye area I use my moisturizer in the morning. At night I use Olay Regenerist intensive repair treatment around my eyes and I use it on my neck too. Don’t over moisturize your eye area in the morning because it will make your eyeshadow and eyeliner smudge.

I’d love to hear what products you use! Do you think you have to spend a fortune to have great skin?

  1. I love the Mary Kay system. It’s a 3in1 cleanser so you cleanse, exfoliate, and tone all in one step! It’s very inexpensive for the set ( miracle set) $95 and will last up to six months so like 1$ a day and it revrsed the signs of aging on my face. Fine lines wrinkles gone and soft skin😁

  2. I typically make some of my skin care products. You can find many natural recipes for your face online. Bonus- they smell wonderful! For a cleanser I use Obligé and I use coconut oil on my eyes, as well as my body! I love coconut oil and now it’s sold at stores like Target. Btw, making your own sugar scrub is amazingly easy and inexpensive. All of the essential oils can be bought online at Amazon.

  3. I use BeautiControl. IMO there is nothing better on the market. I am 50 and I am told all the time I look like I’m in my 30’s. They have great skin care and make up products. They also have a great Instant Face Lift line with Microderm abrasion and chemical peel that will erase years from your face without stripping it of moisture. My husband compliments my skin all the time and has even started using it himself b/c he can see the difference in my skin. You can email me and ask me how to get it. renee.furlow@yahoo.com

Love your site and follow you on FB

  4. I used to use Purity by Philosophy. But budget doesn’t allow for that anymore. I actually make my own Olive Oil face soap and love it! Works just as well, if not better then the high priced facial soap I was using!!! I love that I can make it so cheaply and get great results!

  5. I use such a hodge podge of products, I can’t even tell you what I am using right now. I love the products from The Body Shopppe, their anti-aging line.

  6. Great tips! Exfoliant rocked my world about 5 years ago. My skin is so much softer and smoother. Thanks for another great post Cyndi! Lisa~

  7. p.s. thanks for Numbers 6:24-26! It has always been my FAVORITE Bible verse and give me a lump in my throat everytime I read it or say it aloud. It is SO BEAUTIFUL!

  8. Hi Cyndi, I was always big on the Philosophy skin care system and then I started to notice that their cleanser was smelling different and the consistentsy was not the same. I also realized that my skin was not looking as good as it had been. Feeling frustrated and not knowing where to go, I went into Walgreen’s and picked up a $6.00 bottle of Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser.
After a half dozen uses I was SOLD and have been using it exclusively for the last year or so! I have been tempted to substitute some of my other products for the same products in the Aveeno line.

  9. That sounds like an exfoliator I’d like to try, thanks Mare! Right now I’m using a Philosophy cleanser, witch hazel as my toner, Queen Helene’s Oatmeal and Honey scrub, and Queen Helene’s Mint Julep mask. Then I use Bare Mineral’s Moisturizer and Avon’s Primer to keep the shine away. They both contain spf.

  10. I actually use a homemade face wash/exfoliator – coconut or olive oil and white sugar. After a shower, I used plain olive oil. It’s better than anything I’ve ever bought and it’s cheap! I’d love to see women get away from high-priced skin care products and use natural products. But, that’s me! 🙂

  11. I started using Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair a few months ago. It lasts forever, and wow—I don’t know what’s in that serum, but my skin is so much smoother, clearer, with less wrinkles.

  12. Oh cute new blog design upgrade! I love it!

I am forever looking for skin care. Lately, I have gone back to the basic Nutregena bar, Olay basic spf moisturizer for day, and Regenerist for nighttime. I’m still looking for a good under eye cream for dark circles.

  13. I use different products in the dryer winter months than the summer.
Right now (in Colorado, DRY) I use
Epionce (formulated for the high altitude) and Obagi (love their eye creme).
I might spend a little more than the drug store but, it also lasts me much much longer. The one thing I think EVERYONE should use is SUNSCREEN as your last step (before the makeup)
Thanks for all your tips… Love it!

  14. Clinique’s 3 step skin care. I started as a teenager and then veered away to Mary Kay, but I’m back with Clinique and I’m very happy.
    Hugs,
    Heather
