Over 40 Makeup-Lipstick

Over 40 Makeup

I told you on Tuesday that I wanted to be a little more organized in my home life but also on my blog. So, I thought I’d dedicate Thursdays to makeup. Things like makeup tips, makeup I’m using, and makeup I like. Of course I’ll be gearing it towards women over 40.

Today, I’m sharing one of my favorite neutral lipsticks with you. It’s Bobbi Brown’s “Brown” lipstick. It’s a medium pink brown and I pair it with Mac’s “Pretty Plush” lip gloss.

Women over 40 should stick to neutral lipsticks which soften our face. I know all those trendy red, and hot pinks look fun but they will actually make you look older.

When choosing a neutral lip color, Bobbi Brown says, “never choose one that is lighter than your lips, because that will make you look washed-out”.

Bobbi Brown’s “brown” lipstick looks good on almost all women and is a great color to wear everyday.

I’m wearing the “Brown” lip color in this picture.

Beauty For the Heart~~One of the things that I believe makes a women beautiful are the words that come from her mouth. Maybe I’m old-fashioned but curse words and slander are not becoming in my opinion.

Ephesians 4:29 (NLT) says, Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Let’s be careful with our words and be an encouragement today! Have a blessed day!

  1. I love, no really LOVE The color Brave by MAC. It is a perfect color for my fair skin. It’s a plumish brown. I really appreciate your site. As a woman who loves all things beauty and fashion who just entered my 40’s, I am glad to find such inspirational fashion and beauty advice that fits me.

  2. I love your blog. I just bought the Bobbi Brown Brown lip color and I hope it looks well on me. I have similar lip gloss colors so I’m going to see if it works first. Being in your 40s is tough and your style is so much help. Thank you for what you do. Keep it up.

  3. I just bought HALF RED lip liner & TWIG lipstick. 42, medium skin tone, dark brown haired woman. It gives me a natural look! Love being 42, love wearing lipstick! Love that I have never had botox or plastic surgery!

  4. i just purchased MAC, “half red” liner, “twig” lipstick, looks natural on me, I’m a brunette, med tone skin!

  5. Cyndi,
I love your blog! I just discovered it a few days ago and it is so great to find someone who wears clothes and makeup that a real woman would wear. Thanks!

  6. Hi Cyndi –
I just found your blog (I was looking for fashion over 40) and thought I would comment. Love, Love Love … Nars Dolce Vida lipstick. It’s a terrific Rosie-brown-nudeish-versatile color. It looks a little dark in the tube but it does go on sheer. Living in south Florida, I don’t like to wear anything too heavy and the Nars texture is really light.

  7. My favorite everyday lipstick is Tarte Lipsurgence in Enchanted. It’s a chubby crayon-like lipstick with a color like my lips used to be when I was younger and a nice shine. It’s also very moisturizing and feels almost like a lip balm. Love it!

  8. I would love to hear about your facial cleaning products.
Can’t wait until the next over 40 make-up post!
    ~blessings,
    Kelly

  9. Hi Cyndi~ I looked up the Bobbi Brown lipstick and found it at Sephora. Any other location you suggest to buy it for a good price? I agree about the language…unnecessary and unpleasing to our Lord. Thanks for being bold enough to say it 🙂

  10. Thank you Cyndi for today’s scripture. I had the unfortunate experience of hearing a mother curse her children from the store all the way out to the parking lot. She had two children probably both under 8 yrs. old and a crying baby. She looked tired and worn out, I’m certain her day had been a long one. Still, she was the adult, the mother, her children’s refuge and I’m certain she knew what she was doing was wrong. Every time I heard her curse them I winced and my heart would break for those children. I wondered what would happen when they got home and how those children would feel after they went to bed that night. I wanted to touch her arm and tell her I was certain she was exhausted, but that she was diminishing her children with every word. In today’s world, that would be considered “none of my business” and I might risk her anger growing even more towards her children. I pray that parents, even though overtired, overworked and struggling, to please take one moment, a deep breath and consider the innocence you are destroying.

Off of my soapbox, I’m telling you that finding a good neutral lipstick for my coloring has been like looking for a zebra. Like others who have commented, I tried and thought I liked Viva Glam V, it is about the same color as my lips. Every time I wear it, my sweet Mama, God bless her says, “You forgot to put your lipstick on!”

  11. Cyndi,
I enjoy reading your blog. I appreciate your faith and inspiration. My go to lipstick is Revlon Coffee Bean. It is a brownish neutral and does not dry out my lips. A lot of lipsticks do, but that one does not.
Keep up the good work! Jennifer

  12. Cyndi, is the Bobbi Brown lipstick in brown really brown or does it have a rose or pink shade to it. I can’t wear brown lipstick. It looks like mud on my lips. Tks, Lynne

  13. Hi Cyndi.

Great post today, and I love the Ephesians verse you chose.

I wear MAC’s Angel lipstick with MAC’s Viva Glam Lipglass over it.

    Have a great evening!
    Gina

  14. I like Revlon’s Colorstay Lipliner in Nude. (I have thin lips so I look much better with them lined.) Then I put on Mary Kay’s Mocha Freeze Lipstick. It does sometimes dry out my lips in the Winter, so I keep Carmex everywhere. Looking forward to finding the Brown for a try!

  15. I love Shell lipstick from Mary Kay! I wear it everyday, with some type of lipgloss over it. Love all the make-up tips & information! 🙂

  16. Cyndi, I appreciate your blog so much! On a recent chiropractor appointment–the doctor is also a long-time friend–I received compliments on my softer, yet hip look! Thanks for helping me feel more confident with this aging thing. Blessings! 🙂

  17. Cyndi, you are so good. Lipstick and advice for the heart. I love it!

It’s always fun to hear about makeup that other ladies enjoy. I can’t imagine wearing lipstick that is lighter than my lips. They are already trying to disappear. 🙂

  18. HI! I’m thankful to have found your blog this morning. First, I have a cheapo lipgloss that I love. It is by Hard Candy and it’s called Exotic. It’s red. and sparkly. and I love it on my lips.
Thanks for sharing the Bobbi Brown tip about lipstick lighter than you’re lips. That is a good one.
Also, interestingly — I stumbled upon a blog that was telling the top blogs of 2012 and as I looked through them, I found lots of cursing going on. I couldn’t follow them because I can’t take that kind of talk constantly. =(
I was feeling a bit self righteous about it, though. You’ve made me feel better and that I’m not the only person who feels that language is unnecessary.
Thanks!! It’s great to meet you!
    I will be back!
