6 Steps To Younger Looking Skin

Well, we’re a few weeks into the New Year and I’m looking for ways to keep myself healthy (I don’t want the flu!) and of course ways to keep my skin looking  good. There are 6 steps to younger looking skin that can help all of us look and feel better.

6 Steps To Younger Looking Skin

1. Sunscreen-Many of us think that during winter months we don’t need sunscreen. But that’s just not true. We need sunscreen year round!

UV rays damage our skin. It’s important to limit our UV rays (I say limit because in the summer I am out in the sun. I use sunscreen but I do enjoy going to the pool and the beach. I do not ever go to a tanning bed!) because we know that tanning=wrinkles.

2. Sleep- 7-9 hours of sleep a night will help keep away dark circles and dull skin. Sleep is one of the best anti-aging things we can do for our skin.

If you have trouble sleeping limit your caffeine intake, turn off your computer an hour before bed and try to sleep in complete darkness. Occasionally I take around .3 mg of melatonin before I go to bed (check with your doctor before taking anything).

3. Eat your antioxidants-I recently read that the antioxidants we eat are as important as the ones in our moisturizers. Antioxidants are powerful anti-agers.

So eat those colorful vegetables and fruits. Think salads with avocados and tomatoes, blueberries on yogurt. Eat as many colors as you can daily.

4. Drink water-How many times have we heard it? We need 32 ounces a day and not only is it good for our body but it’s great for our skin. Drink up!

5. Try a Retinoid-There’s tons of anti-aging products but most dermatologists recommend the vitamin-A derivative retinol. It smooths skin, stimulates collagen growth and reduces wrinkles.

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum is a great product to use with retinol.

6. Moisturize your neck and hands-We all worry about our face but our neck and hands show our age too. You don’t have to have a special neck cream but make sure you extend the retinol and moisturizer on your neck and then apply it to the back of your hands.

A good moisturizer for your face and fine lines on your neck is Olay Complete Daily Defense SPF 30.

6 Steps To Younger Looking Skin

Whether your 20, 30, 40, 50 or beyond these 6 steps can help your skin look its best!

Do you have a beauty secret you use to help your skin look great? I’d love for you to share it!

Beauty For the Heart~~I’m a morning person, my husband is not. I recently reminded him of Lamentations 3:22-23, The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Mornings are special! Of course my husband thinks his mercies can begin later but for me I love getting up early and basking in his mercies!

Have a blessed day!

  1. Great tips Cyndi! A few weeks ago I happen to catch Dr Phil and his show was covering melatonin…. Lots of info. Please see if you can find it on YouTube or google or somewhere. Worth the time. You’ve given some great reminders thx so much! 🙂

  2. I do several things on your list: I eat plenty of berries and drink only water. I’m not usually thirsty so not a lot. I use Neutrogena wrinkle cream every night on my face and neck. However, the 7-9 hours of sleep doesn’t happen. I go to bed early, but always wake up during the night, worrying about something. I need something to tone my skin. I’ve noticed in the last few months my skin getting looser. The joys of getting older, ugh!

  3. I’ve gotten some great ideas to try from this post, Thank you! I’m one of those girls that baked in the sun with baby oil and iodine. I am paying for that now. :/
I am lucky if I get 6-7 hours of sleep a night. This aging thing is hard!

  4. I discovered your blog right around the new year and have really enjoyed it! I’m a northwest gal, so it’s kind of fun to get your “southern” perspective, knowing that we share a common faith in Christ!
I have been using a new product, Sovaj, on my skin every night for the past year. It is amazing! My skin is softer and the age spots and fine lines around my eyes are less noticeable. I love the smell (just a hint of grapefruit) and the non-greasy feel. It’s also really affordable! A $38 jar lasts me about 3 months!
It was developed by a friend of ours, a pharmacist who attends my church. Check it out! sovajskincare.com
From their webpage: Sovaj Skin Care is proud to introduce an exciting new product that will change the way you approach your skin. Sovaj A.D.F. eliminates the need for Eye Serums, Eye Creams, and other face moisturizers! Technology from nature and science has come together to provide a fantastic new face cream that provides the best in wrinkle reduction, moisturizing, and skin repair.

  5. Hi Cyndi! Great post……I definitely need reminding often about taking care of my neck and hands. They are often neglected. I use Lancome’s Visionnaire and it works really well. I’m just not as faithful about applying it as I should be. I’m going to try the Olay products. If I like them as well, it’ll save a ton of money. I also want to try the Melatonin. I do have trouble sleeping at night and I’m quite sure it’s due to caffeine. I try to limit my intake, but sweet tea is my weakness. When I make it at home, I use decaf tea, but most of time I’m purchasing it at a fast food place. I try to drink mostly water and when I do, I can tell a big difference in my sleeping habits.

  6. Great post Cyndi! I definitely need to work on these. And I am noticing my hands look so old….I will try to remember to moisturize more often. Thanks! Lisa~

  7. I think I’m good on all of these! Yeah!!! I also take Melatonin, although I’d be zonked out at 3 mg. We naturally make about .3mg so I take 1/4, but everyday. It’s also a potent antioxidant, so I’m not surprised it keeps your skin young. I would definitely add exercise to the list. It keeps blood going to one’s skin and helps with collagen production and all that other good stuff.

  8. Thanks for this post Cyndi. I spent years tanning in tanning beds and laying out in the sun, and now I pay for it. Back then, I thought it wouldn’t matter what my skin looked like in my 40’s because that was “OLD!” Now, all I can do is try to take the best care of my skin as possible. When I have the extra money, my all time favorite skin moisturizer is La Mer. It is just amazing. Peter Thomas Roth also has some great products. Currently, I too am using an Olay product, but I am always looking for something new and better!

    Keep the posts coming.

    Have an awesome week.
    Gina

  9. Olay Complete is a wonderful product. Avoiding UV rays is the very best thing anyone can do to keep her skin looking good, and Olay Complete does a wonderful job of protecting skin from UV rays. I’ve tried lots of products (a redhead with green eyes has to be careful!), but this one is the best I’ve ever used. People often tell me that my skin looks great; I credit this product for that more than anything else!

Your tips are all good, Cyndi; thanks so much!
