Fashion Over 40-What I Wore

Happy Hump day! Today it’s fashion over 40 day. For some reason being over 40 makes me think a little bit more about what I’m wearing. I want to look my age but I don’t want to look like I’m over the hill, because I’m not, right?

Yesterday, I shared my Stitch Fix box with you. I got a comment from Shirley and she said, “it’s nice to see someone dressing like a lady.” What a nice thing to say! That got me thinking and believe me, I could talk all day about the “lack of” being a lady these days. You don’t want to get me started!

I have very few fashion idols, none of which would be in Hollywood. But if I were to pick someone that I admire in fashion, hands down it would be Jackie Kennedy Onassis. John F. Kennedy died before I was born, but her style as a president’s wife was amazing. She exuded class, and style. She looked and dressed like a lady. I love that!

Anyway, I’m not looking very Jackie Kennedy Onassis this week because I’m way too casual. It was Labor Day weekend and I spent a lot of time with my family.

I’m obviously trying to get as much wear as possible out of my white jeans. I know you can wear white after Labor Day but when cooler weather gets here I’ll put them away.

I told you I’m cleaning my closet out a little at a time. I purchased this top at The Limited in the early spring and it has never worked for me. I don’t like it by itself it’s too blousy and the belt and shoes weren’t working for me either. I’m going to have to give this one away!

I’m curious, who would be your fashion idol? Is there anyone in Hollywood that inspires you?

Beauty for the Heart~~“I am the light of the world. Those who follow me will never walk in darkness. They will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12. I want to walk in the light!

Have a blessed day!

  1. Hi Janell! I’m not sure about the necklace, because I didn’t keep the card. I will make sure I do from now on. The red top is Daniel Rainn. I hadn’t heard of this designer before.
    Hope that helps!!
    Cyndi

  2. Wow Tammy, that is such a nice thing to say that you see a heart that is over flowing with God. I want to shine His light everywhere I go!!
    Thank you for stopping by,
    Cyndi

  3. Don’t laugh but I do remember Doris Day because my Mom loved her. 🙂 And oh I wished I looked like Jackie O, she was a true beauty!
    Thank you for stopping by,
    Cyndi

  4. I really want to do a post on dressing like a lady or dressing on purpose. I need to pray about it and gather my thoughts. Thanks for the encouragement!
    Cyndi

  5. Thank you Jean! I’m not sure what I chose and I didn’t see that on the style profile. Fill it out the way you like to dress. You can also make a Stitch fix pinterest board and tell them about it. I hope that helps!
Thank you so much for stopping by!
    Cyndi

  6. Oooh no I haven’t but I might have to. I would have to order them online because we don’t have an Eddie Bauer store near us.
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

    1. I love your fashion style for women over 50. I’m 55 and struggling with my wardrobe, but Im slowly adding pieces, so I’m coming along. Thank you for your postings.

I love, love, love your wall scripture verse, where can I purchase one?

  7. One of my best friends lives in NYC and is always put together so I would say she’s someone I look to, but I also love the way Natalie Morales (Today show) dresses… lots of dresses and skirts and extremely tasteful. And, of course, Audrey Hepburn. Kate Middleton is young, but she sets a fine example for all of us!

  8. I agree with the Jackie O votes. Always looked so put together. I’m a Princess Kate fan as well. For such a young girl she always looks super classy. I think the top your questioning about whether to keep or not might be the color. You are more of a color girl and that top just doesn’t “pop” like most of your looks. I say keep until next spring and if you still don’t feel good in it, then give it away. Just got my email from stitchfix that my next box is on it’s way. Hope it’s as good as your last one. Love your Sunday videos they always make my day.

  9. Your blog has been a huge help to me in staying with the trends but in an age appropriate, modest, lady-like way. I like classic looks and they are hard to find in the icons put up as examples to us today.

  10. I too love Jackie Kennedy’s style. I was told at one time years ago when I was a young woman that I looked like her and that was a huge compliment to me. I really like Kate Middleton’s style as well – classic. I don’t pay much attention to Hollywood style but I did like the clothes that Cameron Diaz wore in the movie “The Holiday” again pretty classic style. Thank you for dressing like a lady 🙂

  11. Hi Cindy,
i agree with Shirley who said keep the style coming. I too love your style. What i really like is that I think your true style is coming from within a heart that is over flowing with God.
    Tammy

  12. Now I know who you look like..Jackie O. I couldn’t put my finger on it and now I can see it. You made me feel very old that you didn’t remember the Kennedy death (LOL) so maybe you won’t know how Doris Day dressed in all of her movies. She too dressed like a lady. Thanks for your comment from yesterday. Keep the style coming we love all of your styles. God Bless.

  13. I’m so glad you say that Jackie O is a fashion icon of yours, I thought I was the only one lol. I really think Michell Obama dresses very chic and classy also. I love the red blouse with the blue necklace. All in all, I would have to say You are my fashion icon! I read your blog everyday also but don’t always comment. You have really good taste and your choices are fashionable and economical and I like that you share your values also. I am so glad you turned me on to Stitch Fix!

  14. Of course, Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn were classy dressers, & Kate Middleton is too. I have two daughters and always told them “You can be stylish and look classy without showing every part of your body!” My girls are in their 20’s today and I’m so glad to say I appreciate the way they carry themselves. Clothes are nice, but the way one carries themself is so very important. Inner beauty is a wonderful quality. I love the way you dress. I’m 50 and same as you, I love to be fashionable, but do not want to try and look like the teenagers. Thanks for sharing and God Bless 🙂

  15. I read your blog daily and receive the emails. It has really helped me to dress with more style. I love that red shirt and the necklace, you look great in red! That would be my favorite pick of today’s post. Just because it’s red, white and blue, doesn’t mean it’s just for the 4th of July or Labor day, they are just great colors that say “wow” together!!
As for white after Labor Day, the rule no longer exists! Since I live in Texas where it’s hot so much of the year, we can were white whenever we want!

  16. they all look really nice. I would challenge you to prayerfully do a post or more on dressing like a lady. your blog already gives the good example of doing so. It seems to be a forgotten goal. A bit of modesty in dress goes a long way. as always your heart beauty remark is right on target and timely. THANK YOU

  17. Wow red is a great color for you Cyndi! I love it! I also tend to gravitate toward women who dress like ladies. Most of those ladies are not superstars, but regular women who carry themselves with class. You are one! I love Audrey Hepburn, Princess Kate, and several bloggers who do it right as well. Thanks for the great post! Susan

  18. You look great in your white pants and the sleeveless top on the first picture. It makes you look long and lean. You are so cute. I love your ideas for women over 40. You have a fresh modern look that is very age appropriate. I am learning great things from you.

  19. I LOVE your style! I’m starting Stitch Fix after seeing your posts! One question, did you choose “loosely fitting the body” or which option for that? Jackie O has always been a fav of mine too. She died the day my third child was born…I swear I watched every tv thing about her that week.
Kate Middleton is gorgeous as was Diana. But we Americans have way too few role models of appropriate and stylish. Keep showing outfits! You are a huge inspiration to me!

  20. As the others have posted, don’t get rid of the last blouse! Looks adorable with the belt;) I like timeless pieces that you can wear over and over again…regardless if trendy. Typically, that is the “Classy” look in my opinion. Have a great day Cyndi!

  21. I love to see what Kate Middleton is wearing, she has such good taste. My husband always comments on how classy Catherine Zita Jones looks on the red carpet, I think he’s right.

  22. There are a lot of photos of Jackie Kennedy in the early years at Martha’s Vineyard dressed casual. Your casual looks are put together and stylish. I love the sleeveless top from Marshall’s and the belted version with the tan blouse.

  23. LOVE your cute casual looks! The red top with the blue necklace and the white jeans = so cute for Labor Day! Looking at all the cute jeans and capris…. Have you tried the Eddie Bauer Jeans that were on the Oprah list? They fit SO well!! Thanks for sharing your looks… You inspire us! 🙂

  24. I too love the timeless, elegant style of Jackie O. And like others, the younger modern Kate. Today’s Hollywood doesn’t have inspiration for me. An Older inspiration would be Angela Lansbury and like Leanne the old style of Downton Abbey. For me, style should be modest, respectable, simple but in taste with some elegance. I also like Beth Moore’s style.

  25. I started to wear my white pants this morning and said to myself “no it’s after labor day.” So, has the “rule” changed?

  26. I’m not sure I have a fashion idol, but there was this older woman who was in my church. She knew how to dress. Her outfits were always fun and appropriate. She didn’t dress like an old lady, but she never pretended to be someone she was not. I think I look to her most when I consider fashion and what is appropriate.

Love your outfits. You always look wonderful.
    ~FringeGirl

  27. I love the tan blouse….I bet it would look super cute tucked into a pencil skirt. (It also looks cute on you in the pictures!)

  28. I really do love that last blouse…try it with the belt worn more loosely and lower on the hip, and it would be lovely with black as well. Thanks for all your fabulous fashion advice…I love your style!! 🙂

  29. I like the the blousy top! Don’t get rid of it…it’s so cute…especially with that belt! I love how you’re rocking your white pants…I’m doing the same and I love it!

  30. You know, I love the darker leather belt/shoes in the last picture. If you don’t like your belt, I have one that is the same width, but it is meant to be worn lower on the hips. It’s woven and I think it came from Coldwater Creek. Or maybe just a thinner belt in the same leather shade? It’s a really pretty look on you!

  31. I like the brown blouse in the last picture with the belt. I don’t really have a fashion idol, but I do have to agree with the commenter above. Kate has style!

  32. I’m not really into anyone from Hollywood these days…
I still love Princess Diana and now I’m a big Kate fan! She dresses classically with a “young” twist…so, I think she has a style that is easy to follow.
If it were up to me, we would probably all dress like the ladies of Downton Abbey!!
