5 Books To Grow Your Relationship With Christ

I often get emails asking what devotional books I use or what are some of my favorite bible studies. So today I’m sharing 5 Books To Grow Your Relationship With Christ. These have all been a blessing to me!

If you’re looking for a quick but powerful devotional book, Jesus Calling is really good. Sarah Young listened to God with pen in hand, and wrote down whatever she believed He was saying to her. She adds several scripture verses to each days devotion.

Katie Orr is a fellow pastor’s wife and friend of mine. She has written several bible studies along with her friend Lara Williams. They are ebooks which mean you download them to your computer.

I recently finished Meet Jesus. It’s a thirteen-week study that takes us on a journey to see and hear Jesus afresh, gleaning from the gospel penned by John.

I’m doing Abounding Hope right now. It’s also an ebook that takes us on a journey to hope — hope promised to us in Christ regardless of our life circumstances.

For an even more in depth bible study, these are some of my favorite ones.

Priscilla Shirer has really good bible studies and I’ve facilitated several of them. These  have DVDs and CDs to go along with them and I highly recommend using one of them along with the study.

I’ve facilitated many of Beth Moore’s bible studies, they also have DVDs and CDs to go along with them. A Woman’s Heart God’s Dwelling Place is my favorite one of all the ones I’ve done.

Do you have a favorite devotional book or bible study that you use? Are you setting aside time each day to spend time in God’s word?

Last week, I shared a Kari Jobe song and I’m still listening to her songs this week. This is another one of my favorites.

  1. Recently I started a prayer group for a dear friend who was dying from a brain tumor. We read Jesus Calling everyday and her family also read it to her. It was the biggest blessing to all of us as we were comforted and encouraged by this wonderful devotional. My darling, darling friend (also named Cindy) lost her battle on Aug 12. Check out the passage from that day. God is so good and I am so blessed that my Cindy is with the King. Jesus Calling is an excellent short devotional.

  2. Cyndi, last week I sent my new daily devotional book, The Listening Heart: Hearing God in Prayer, to your sister, Traci. I asked her for your address or if I should send your copy to her. (I’m not sure how far apart you two live.) The book officially releases tomorrow, Nov. 25, and it has been God’s doing from the beginning. I’d be honored to send you one.
Thanks for your wonderful blog and your emphasis on the inner beauty that only Jesus can provide. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

  3. Cyndi,

My very favorite Beth Moore study (so far) is Believing God. Can’t begin to tell you how powerful and life changing that was – really still is.

I also love to use Daily Light as a devotional. Some copies are divided into morning and evening scripture readings so you can bookend your day with God’s Word. I like that it’s not someone else’s interpretation but strictly scripture – so I can discern what God is saying to me thru His Word.

Enjoying your blog and the ideas I’ve gleaned from it,
    Cyndee

  4. Cyndi, thanks so much for sharing this song. I love the line that says “lean against you and breathe”. My favourite study is Beth Moore’s “Believing God”. It really spoke to me confirming some of the things God was teaching me just as I started it. Jesus Calling is how I start most days right now 🙂

  5. Thanks so much for sharing your suggestions. I’m always looking for fresh ways to learn and grow closer to our great God!! I’ve facilitated many studies also but haven’t done Beth’s A Woman’s Heart yet. I’ll definitely take a look at that one. I read Jesus Calling everyday along with Come Away My Beloved. Sitting with The Word is precious and priceless. Love the song too! Home this Sunday with aches, chills and general yuckiness. Finding church in unexpected places 🙂
