Advent-Waiting, Expecting, And Hoping

Advent season begins today.  (The word “advent” comes from the Latin word that means “coming.”)

Advent is a season of waiting, expecting, and hoping.

Beginning four Sundays prior to Christmas and ending on Christmas Eve, Advent helps us prepare for the coming, or “advent” of the Christ child at Christmas.

With all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season it’s important for us to slow down and remember what we are celebrating.

The birth of our Savior…….

The angels announced his arrival…….

The shepherds spread the good news…….

All of heaven watched and waited………

He came as a baby, born of a virgin……

This is what we celebrate! Don’t miss it!

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. -Luke 2:8-20

I play this song every year but it’s soo good. If you’ve heard it, I know you’ll want to hear it again. Enjoy!

What are you going to do this year to celebrate the birth of our Savior?

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Great song! This year we will celebrate Christ’s birth with our 2nd annual Nativity play put on by my 8 grandchildren all 8 years and under on Christmas Eve. After the play we will have a birthday party for Jesus. It will be crazy hectic at our house as is every holiday here but also so much fun.

  2. Beautiful song that asks a great question. In North America as a whole Christmas has become about many things other than Jesus. We had an amazing worship service this morning and I heard a new to me Christmas song “We Have a Savior” by Hillsong. I’m not sure if its a new song or if I just haven’t heard it before but its a wonderful song centered on the Saviour, the reason we have Christmas in the first place!

  3. All of the family goes to church on Christmas Eve and back to the house to eat and open presents. We open presents on the Eve so they can all go to other family members on Christmas Day.
