Keeping Christmas Simple

keeping-christmas-simple

Merry Christmas friends! I hope you have all your presents bought and wrapped, your goodies baked, and your house decorated. If I did, it would be a Christmas miracle! But this year, I’m Keeping Christmas Simple.

Last night my husband and I did some Christmas shopping. We had fun, but to be honest I saw a lot of people who didn’t look like they were having fun.

(Of course, I had to take a picture of us shopping!)

Keeping Christmas Simple

It seems the more secular Christmas becomes the more miserable it becomes. Have you noticed that?

The older I get, the more simple I want our Christmas.

  • I want to celebrate Christ’s birth.
  • I want to enjoy our family and friends.
  • And I want to slow down.

Anybody want to join me? Let’s enjoy this season!

Have a blessed day!

  1. Just came across your blog for the first time and think you are adorable…love the optimism and the fashion tips….agree a simpler Christmas is better, and also wish for this the older I become. My favorite activity this year was free…a snowy hike in the woods with only luminaries lighting the trail.

  2. I have been following your posts for about 5 months now and may I just say what a breath of fresh air you are? I feel like we share the same brain sometimes (kind of weird, I know) because we like so many of the same things. I’m rambling now because I really just wanted to wish you and your family a blessed, beautiful Christmas! ⭐️

  3. Hi Cyndi.

What a wonderful post! Thanks for reminding us all what Christmas should be about. It is so easy to get caught up in thinking we have to buy a certain gift for everyone. I know I get overwhelmed. I have a small budget and 21 people to buy for, plus Santa and teachers.

I hope you have a great week. 🙂

  4. This is beautiful. Could you please tell me how I can share the Amy Grant song on my facebook? Merry Christmas and God Bless.

  5. I totally agree, Cyndi 🙂 I won’t take up too much room here, but just want to share one of my most wonderful Christmases ever… Twelve years ago, my parents made a tremendous sacrifice for our family (me & my sisters). We left our way of life/culture, which meant mom & dad started out from scratch that July. When Christmastime came, we had nothing!!! No presents, decorations, or stockings… But we had each other, a roof over our heads, and for the first time ever…. we knew salvation. That was the sweetest gift ever. Ever since we experienced that Christmas, we try hard not to get caught up and over do it. After all, that’s not the meaning of it anyway… Thx for the reminder Cyndi and blessings to u and your sweet family!! I am glad as Christians, we can be totally happy and content without spending tons of money!! Hugs!

  6. I definitely agree. It’s hard to manage it though. I seem to use less decorations every year but enjoy them more. That might be because there is less to dread taking down. HA! I really want to just focus on the reason and family and take time to enjoy the decorations, etc. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

  7. I’ve seen this quote on facebook several times this weekend: “I think as you grow older your Christmas list gets smaller and the things you really want for the holidays can’t be bought.” Lots of truth in that statement!

  8. I also agree with you. For several years now my children and I have not bought gifts for each other. They buy for their kids but my gift is having all of us together in one place!! It has made a tremendous difference to the crazyness of Christmas in our family. This year I have made an extra effort to focus on Advent and the birth of Christ. It is the reason we celebrate and often gets lost in all the things Christmas has become. I love to celebrate with family and friends with a much simplier approach than in years past.

  9. My family has forced me to slow down. As we get older our family has gotten smaller through death, divorce and change in type of friends. I’m still getting
use to it. It now gives me time to truly worship God and his Son Jesus.

  10. Yesterday in Target, I noticed a mother with her 3 children trailing behind her looking a bit frazzled , as did my friend who complimented her sparkly top and we both smiled at her. She smiled at the compliment and us as we were both grinninng ear to ear and she replied by wishing us a Merry Christmas and cheered right up. I love moments like that where we can cause instant change in someone’s day! Great idea to relieve the pressure we ourselves put on during this amazing season!

  11. I agree, Cyndi! I want to enjoy the beauty of the season with family and friends and celebrate the birth of Jesus. I’m making an effort to simplify but we moms can get caught up in trying to please everyone! You and your hubby look adorable! Merry Christmas!
