Why Do I Worry?

Why do I worry? I know that scripture says, “Don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring it’s own worries.”

Why do I worry?

Why does Jesus tell us not to worry? Because He knows the ill effects of worry.

  • It damages our health
  • it disrupts our productivity
  • it negatively affects the way we treat others
  • and it reduces our ability to trust in God.

How many of these are you experiencing because of worry?

I’m writing this as a reminder to myself! I sometimes worry too much and I know Jesus wants me to give my worries to Him.

Let’s really give our worries to Him and start living the abundant life! Each day is a gift!

I heard this song for the first time this week and thought it was sweet.

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. This is a great reminder Cyndi! I used to worry all the time, and finally I decided to give it up to God to worry for me! It works. Things happen for a reason, if you don’t know what it is at the time….life it too short to worry~

  2. Oh Boy….. the worrying!!! UGH! Battle it all the time….. By growing older I finally realized stuff happens and I think I didn’t even worry about that!!!!! Taking one day at a time helps. I’ve been a worrier since I was a little girl!!!! It is draining …. heres to working on letting it go to God!!!! Have a happy day!!!

  3. Thanks for sharing this! I am a worrier! I struggle with this too! Thank you for sharing your faith and encouraging the rest of us. Love your blog!

  4. One blessing of Cyndi’s blog is reading what she shares. Another blessing is reading what other readers post! I have been encouraged by both today. Thanks to all who shared.

  5. Hi Cyndi.

Boy, did you post hit home today. There’s so much going on right now, and I just keep worrying, even though I know I shouldn’t worry. I remember reading something that said “worry never robs tomorrow of its sorry, but it always robs today of its joy.” I may not have it exact, but I get the point of it, and it is so true.

    Thanks for sharing this today.

  6. “Do not worry” was today’s message at church. Worrying is a lack of trust in God – a message I need to take to heart and hand the worries and troubles over to the Lord. The Lord’s resources are far greater than mine. Thank you for sharing the reminder. Blessings!

  7. I’m a worrier too and mine seems to always hit when I try to go to sleep at night so I pray and quote scripture and ultimately have to turn it over to Him. I couldn’t have fixed it anyway! This verse is a great one to focus on when troubled by worry – “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

  8. My absolute biggest struggle. I’ve fought it. I’ve prayed and begged the Lord to take it away. For me, it is sin. I’m sad it’s a part of my story.

BUT over the last few months, I’ve tried to stop and choose to give thanks. Car making funny noises? Stop. Give thanks for the car. Give thanks that it is making a noise. Give thanks I can ask for help. Give thanks that He will provide the finances to fix it. Give thanks.
Stuff like that. Fear/worry/anxiety plague me but running straight to Him in the midst has really helped. I’m now wondering if He has allowed it to remain a part of my story simply to keep me running to Him. Always.

  9. Worry is more about us than God…and we forget as Christians, God’s HOLY Spirit is in us! His very Spirit lives within me..” I can do ALL things through God who strengthens me.” It is a choice of the heart, mind and will to decide and choose that the Holy Spirit of God living in me will take all these earthly trials and turn them into good for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes! Thank you God!

  10. one of my grandmothers was an on and off worrier. she would always make the comments to us that she knew she was actually trying to have things under control and prayed for His help with a control issue more than a worry issue and that when she confessed that challenge it opened her up to receiving His full help. I try to keep that in mind when I find myself struggling with “worry” and try to make sure I am not trying to be controlling and truly let go and let God.

  11. I too, am a worrier no longer…Praise be to God! He has been so faithful to me that I am able to always trust in His plans. But He gets all the glory for that!!! Thx for the great post Cyndi 🙂

  12. Such a timely reminder for me, as I try to stay focused on HIM in my search for peace. Worry is the enemy of peace, so I must work on giving my worries to him!
    Have a blessed Sunday, Cyndi!

  13. I used to be a worrier when I was younger but God really got hold of my heart and taught me that worrying was not trusting Him. I wouldn’t describe myself as a worrier anymore, some of the things I worried about most have happened and the Lord brought me through so that took away most of my worry and fear. Any time I start to worry I take my thoughts captive and remember the ways God has provided in the past and the worry dissipates. Thanks be to God 🙂

  14. Hi Cyndi,
This post hits home for me! Because of various family issues going on for the past year or so I have been struggling with NOT worrying so much. I recently saw a quote that says “You can trust God or you can worry, you can’t do both” That is true but we are human after all and that’s easier said than done. I’ve been working on myself lately with this issue because to me it implies that you don’t fully trust God when you spend so much time worrying. Not preaching at anyone, just hoping this might help you or anyone else struggling! I really appreciate your faith and honesty!
