How To Style The Wrap Dress

I love to get emails from you all about how to style a certain outfit. I recently was asked how to style the wrap dress.

It’s no secret that I love the wrap dress. Why? Because it’s a timeless piece that’s flattering on almost every body type.

So when I got this email from Krista, “I have an executive dinner next week for my husband’s work.  I’ve ordered this dress and this handbag.  Got any idea for accessories and shoes?”  I couldn’t wait to style it!

The dress is from Talbot’s and it’s sold out. I had to google an image and it was small so when I blew it up, it turned out fuzzy. Sorry about that.

I added a geometric necklace which are very popular this year.  I would wear small hoops or stud earrings since the necklace is the focus. Of course, you can add bracelets.

Because it’s January, and I assumed it’s cold where she lives, I styled it with black tights and boots. I’ve been looking for a cute pair of booties and these from Zappos are perfect for winter weather.

The question, I get all the time is, “What do I wear, pantyhose or tights?”. I’ve talked about this before and it’s one of my most popular posts.

I had to close the comments because apparently there are a lot of men out there who have a thing about women in hose and the comments were getting dirty, very dirty.

But here’s a quote from the book, How Not To Look Old by Charla Krupp. “You want your legs to look great, but they should meld seamlessly into your outfit, not scream for attention.”

Another quote from her book, “There are going to be occasions when you will feel the need to cover your legs. At this fashion moment, nude panty hose are the devil, and you should avoid them like the plague.”

Now I know some of you disagree. Some of you are required to wear hose to work, but to look younger I would go with opaque or sheer black, brown or navy hose. Never nude.

If you have pretty legs, when the weather is warmer you can add tanning lotion to your legs and not wear hose at all.

Okay, what are your thoughts on hose? How would you style this dress?

Beauty For the Heart~~To be God’s servant, you must be moldable and remain in the hand of the Master. John 15:5, I am the vine; you are the branches I a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

  1. Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times
it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between usability
and appearance. I must say you’ve done a superb job with this.
Additionally, the blog loads super quick for me on Firefox.
    Excellent Blog!

  2. Hi Cyndi.

I love the way you styled the dress. The color of the dress is beautiful. I wish I could wear dresses/skirts, but they are not very flattering. Maybe I’ll try again. That’s what I keep saying! LOL

    Have a great evening.

  3. Love your styling of the dress. The necklace is perfect. I have never totally caught on to the booties but have a pair of Easy Strides with a heel that are perfect with so many things. I was thinking of a suede pump too! I love the suede or a patent leather pump when I don’t know what to wear. I also am a fan of dark hose in a dark grey/black color. It breaks up the black but is monotone enough to blend on down to my black shoe, especially for dressy occasions.

  4. Thank you Cyndi!!! I have a pair of booties very similar to the ones you’ve shown. I hadn’t even thought of them! The dress came yesterday… It fits really well but does gap some at the bust. I’m going to put a few stiches in to hold it in place. I don’t want to wear a cami under it as I think it will take from the neckline and make it appear a bit too casual. I love the necklace you found and am going to go shopping to find something similar. I totally agree with your thoughts on nude hosiery though I came close to getting sucked in when Kate Middleton wore them! Ha ha! I have a pair of suede pumps that are the same color as the dress and am thinking about getting tights that would match them to wear as another way to style this dress…I don’t know…colored tights might be a mistake too… maybe for church. For my dinner I’m going to follow your advice. It’s especially nice as I won’t need to invest in new shoes:) You are so sweet to help me with this look! I found the handbag and thought it would be cute then I got sorta stuck! Finding your blog has been liking finding a new friend!! Thank you so much!!! Krista

  5. Hi Cyndi! I think you’ve styled this perfectly for the occasion. I love the shoes and the pop of animal print! That burgundy color has been popular this season but I just can’t wear it….I look washed out!! I went back and read your post about hosiery since it was written before I started reading your blog. I agree that hose make us look like old ladies. As the weather warms, I think I’ll give the Sun Labs (?) tanning lotion that you recommended a try to give my legs a bit of color. Have a great day!
