My Favorite Self Tanner

With warm weather comes sleeveless tops, shorts and summer dresses. I want to have some color so I use self tanners. Today I’ll share my favorite self tanner with you and review a couple of other self tanners.

My Favorite Self Tanner

I recently tried Tanwise because it was recommended by another blogger. Price: $12.99 (Sally Beauty)

My Favorite Self Tanner

Pros:

  • I love that it’s a mouse. It glides on easy.
  • Has a nice coconut scent.
  • Immediate bronzing effect.
  • Colors also builds over time.

Cons:

  • Very dark color, almost gives me a “dirty” tan look.

I thought I would love Tanwise but unless you have darker skin or are already somewhat tan, I think this is too dark.

I have olive skin and most tanners work on me but this one looks like I’ve used a self tanner. I will not purchase again.

QuickTan by body drench is salon grade tanning in a bottle. Price: $12.29 (Amazon)

My Favorite Self Tanner

Pros:

  • Instant sun kissed glow.
  • Very natural looking tan, no orange.
  • Smells nice.

Cons:

  • I don’t like spraying it on. It comes out very cold! I spray it in the palm of my hand and then rub on my legs and arms.

I love the way this color looks on me, it’s very natural looking. I would possibly buy again.

My Favorite Self Tanner is still Sun Laboratories Self Tanning Lotion. Price: $18.00 (Amazon)

My Favorite Self Tanner

Although it’s a little more expensive, I think it’s worth it. This gives you a nice tan and it lasts several days. It’s still my favorite!

**I use latex gloves when applying self tanners. If you don’t have gloves it will stain the palm of your hands. Use baking soda after applying and it will remove the stain.

What is your favorite self tanner? I’d love to give it a try!!

Beauty For the Heart~~I’m wondering if you feel anxious or burdened today? Psalm 62:5 reminds us that we can find rest in God. He is our hope!

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.”

Have a blessed day!

  1. NIVEA Sun-Kissed Radiance Gradual Tanner & Body Lotion
I am fair to medium tone skin but this stuff is awesome!! My main attraction to it no smell, dries fast and no color rubs off on my clothes or sheets. I do apply regular lotion to my feet ankles knees and elbows for less absorption which someone told me years ago.

  2. For a quick fix tan, try Sally Hanson Airbrush legs. I found mine at Walmart in the Nail Polish section. Around $10-$12. It comes in different shades. Spray it on, rub it in well, it goes on evenly, and immediately colors your skin. It only lasts until you wash it off, but will last a couple days if you don’t deliberately wash it off. It does rub off on the inside of your clothes, but that washes out easily when you launder the clothes. It’s a great quick tan for whatever is sticking out, legs arms, neckline.

  3. I have worn self tanners for years and have tried many. I really like Loreal Sublime Glow because it is lotion and tanner in one. Just apply like lotion and rub in completely. I usually do at night and dry for a couple minutes with my hairdryer. It is a natural looking glow and I get a lot of compliments on my “beach tan” which I always say comes from tube. I use Medium as I also have a slight olive skin tone, Note – You do need to wash your hards well after application and use only a small amount around feet and ankles.

  4. I’ve been using Tanwise but I was having trouble with it staining the dry parts of my feet and toes. I used body butter before application but it still left ugly brown stains….
THEN I tried using my coconut oil (which I’ve fallen in love with for my hair and in place of my usual lotion). Results? PERFECTION!!
I apply a light coat of coconut oil to my skin all over, just as I would body lotion, before I use my tanwise. But I put a thicker layer over my toes and around problem areas of my feet and hands.
I’m in LOVE with the results!! Absolutely smooth, problem free tan and the best feeling skin I’ve ever had!!
I’m so excited that I couldn’t wait to share with you!!

  5. A tanner I haven’t seen mentioned is Million Dollar Tan. I am on my 3rd bottle (small one) and I love this stuff. Best tanner I’ve used for my fair-medium skin. It is gradual and does not rub off on my white sheets Big Plus! It’s a bit pricey but I’ve been using coupon codes at purchase. On other days I use the Suave glow, I like it better than Jergens and smells better!! Love your blog!

  6. Just discovered your blog and I love it! I’ve tried a lot of self tanners and I really like Beautisol. I happened to see it on tv so I could watch them demo the product. It has a great smell, not the usual self tanner smell. And it works really well. It’s tinted so you can see where you apply it. Just as another commenter said above, I use the self tanner mitt from Ulta and it works great. Love the idea of using a makeup sponge for your hands. I need to go buy some makeup sponges now.

  7. I’ve tried several self tanners over the years and recently tried Tanwise. I am fair skinned and also felt I looked too dark, but I found a secret. After bathing, I put 3 pumps of body cream in my hand and mix it with one squirt of Tanwise and then rub in on my legs. It’s perfect! A beautiful, light tan color. Try it!

  8. here are my two go-to self tanners…i’ve tried many over the years but these two are my absolute favorites:

St. Tropez bronzing mousse – i bought this off one of the home shopping networks last summer and loved it. the secret (for me) is to use the mitt that comes with it. it is a little pricey but better than spending the money for a spray tan.

Famous Dave’s Moisture Tan – i’m not sure how i found out about this but i ordered it off Amazon and will definately order it again! Again, use it with a mitt and you’ll love the results. in fact, this past Sunday my granddaughter said i was darker than her pop (my husband) who works outside and is always tan! this gives a wonderful natural tan and lasts on my legs about a week.

i do spray vaseline spray and go on my feet and heels before applying the tanning product.

hope you get to try one of these products….they rock!

  9. I have very sensitive skin. What tanning product have others with sensitive skin tried. Many self tanning products give me a fine rash?

  10. I use Mary Kay’s Self Tanner and am very pleased with it. I like just a little bit of tan that is natural looking and that’s what it gives.

  11. I am a big fan of self tanners! I have tried a few n my favorite is Jergens Natural Glow. I use the 3 Days to Glow for my regular tanning but I like the Daily Moisturizer after my shower when I’m short on time! Love that it has a pleasant scent! I’ve been using the Quick Tan spray by Body Drench for years and love it for my neck and décolleté area; especially just after putting the turtlenecks away and easing into spring!! I am intrigued to try the Sun Labs tanning lotion you recommend and plan to make that my next purchase! Cyndi, thanks for sharing!!

  12. I may try the Sun Labs self-tanner. It seems that every self tanner I use just give me a fake look, and the tanner seems to just settle in the pores on my legs, causing the pores to look very dark. I wonder if anyone else has this to happen? Another self-tanner that I have been hearing rave reviews about is made by Bare Minerals. I may try that one this year.

    Thanks for sharing Cyndi!

  13. I bought the Sun Labs tanner last year after you blogged about it. I agree with you, it is the best….and I’ve tried them all. Thank you!

  14. I am loving the TanWise mousse. I tried it a couple of days ago and gave me a nice tan look. Not orange on me. I have tried the Jergens brand and didn’t like it on me. I will have to try the Sun labs next.

  15. The Jergens foam medium/dark. I am 43 years old and have used self-tanner consistently since I was 16 years old. I’m a medium-toned skin redhead so I don’t want a TAN but I don’t want to glow either.

I’ve used really expensive self-tanners and really inexpensive and go back to this one always.

Recently I tried the tarte Brazilliance. The reviews are amazing but it was not amazing on me. I looked dull and dirty.

  16. Cyndi I have very fair skin and have tried many tanners. The only ones that work for me are the Jergens Daily Glow and tada! Your recommended Sun Labs! I’m thankful you’ve shared that product because it is the bomb! ! Thanks Cyndi

  17. I use the Jergens Daily Glow and the Jergens for Faces Only and love them both. You don’t get instant color but the lotion reacts with the natural pigment in your skin and I get a very natural looking tan that builds over the course of a few days. My skin is glowing and incredibly soft. And, since it is a natural pigment tan, the color doesn’t rub off on my clothes.

  18. Cyndi, first of all, I love following your blog. And as for the self-tanners, I followed your advice and tried the Sun Labs (Amazon $15.99) and love it. I’m fair to medium skin toned and I also use the medium. The only drawback for me is that I have to apply several hours before bed because I have found it has a tendency to leave a slight color on our sheets. So on the days it’s hard to find those extra hours I use Jergen’s Daily Glow in medium/dark. It can be applied immediately before dressing. So I blend equal amounts of the Jergen’s with my daily body lotion to maintain the color I get from the Sun Labs. Works great for me and keeps my skin really moisturized as well.

  19. P.S. – My favorite sunless tanner is from Paula’s Choice (online). I get breakouts and this tanner is completely oil-free. I also supplement tanning with the Jergens Natural Glow just on my legs

  20. I have been using sunless tanners for several years. Something that I started using last year that I just love – an inexpensive tanning mitt from Ulta. They have the more expensive St. Tropez mitts but I just bought the cheap one and it works great and eliminates streaks; also protects my hands. Afterwards I wash the mitt with soap – it rinses clean and then I just hang it up to dry. On my face, I apply the tanner with a wedge makeup sponge. Even though the mitt keeps tanner off my hands, I still wash them and then use the leftover sponge from my face to apply tanner to the back of my hands and fingers.
