Do You Ever Feel Anxious?

Do You Ever Feel Anxious?

I know many of you have felt anxious before, I know I have. I’ve had nights where I wake up and feel an overwhelming sense of fear. It’s in those moments I cry out to God.

The good news is that Jesus is always waiting, always listening and He is the one who can calm our fears. He can carry us in those times. The truth is we all need Jesus to carry us.

St. Augustine said, “our souls are restless until they find their rest in You.”

Philippians 4:7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”

Maybe you’re dealing with something, like divorce, financial troubles, illness, or doubt. Maybe everything is good but you still have fears or anxiety.

He can carry you!

I had heard this song many times, but hadn’t listened to the words. It’s a great reminder of His faithfulness.

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Shannon I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with a prodigal child. In September I’m going to start writing, once a month, for a blog called Grace for Moms. I want to write about issues that Mom’s with adult children deal with. It can be hard to handle adult children especially if we don’t agree with their choices.
    Keep praying,
    Cyndi

  2. Hi Kim!!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog. I continue to be in awe that God can use a fashion & beauty blog as a ministry but I’m so thankful He does.
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  3. Hi Teri,
I do use my essential oils for anxiety. They have several I use including joy, stress away and peace and calming. I know it sounds crazy but they really work for me!
    Blessings
    Cyndi

  4. God is so faithful! I always remember that worry doesn’t change the situation and I try to remember that when tough situations arise. “Let go and let God”…. I also know anxiety cannot be controlled at times. I’ve seen a loved one struggle with it. It can be very hard. Thank you for sharing such encouragement on Sundays. You make God smile Cyndi 😉

  5. Hi Karla! I am so glad you shared this. My experience is very similar to yours. I am one who struggles with anxiety. Some extremely stressful life experiences pushed me to the point where like you “my brain was just simply not functioning correctly anymore.” Making it a matter of faith or lack of it just added to my anxiety. It helped when my Dr taught me about the very physical aspect of anxiety. Only then was I able to let myself off the hook and accept help. I know that God hand picked the people who helped me to get on solid ground. I think people who struggle with anxiety need to know that it’s a medical condition and it’s ok to get treatment. Again, thank you for sharing your experience. I think it will help many people.

  6. That’s my favorite scripture. I struggle with anxiety, especially now as I have a prodigal. I needed to read this post. Thank You.

  7. Thanks for the prayer, He is faithful. Mom was found, police called about 8:45pm. She was only about 50 miles away but I have no idea how many miles she must have driven.

We are all just glad that she is safe and that no one was hurt. Now the fun of taking the keys away begins. More prayer, more prayer…..always without ceasing. Ugh!

  8. Thank you so much Cyndi for always lifting and encouraging. I truly appreciate that you a true follower of Christ and set the example for the rest of us to pass it on! God Bless you!! and thank you for sharing the music! I’ve added Josh Wilson to my Spotify list. LOVE it!!

  9. Oh Cyndi, thanks for post. My mom has been missing since 11am today. She has Ahlzheimers. Been praying but it’s hard.

  10. I have been enjoying your blog for a few months now. I stumbled upon it while on pinterst searching for “fashion over 40.” (although I’m 52;-)) I love your (modest) cute style and your posts on beauty and fashion. BUT I think your Sunday posts have become my favorite. Today’s especially hit home. Thank you for this work you are doing “inspiring women to be beautiful from the inside out.”

  11. Sandi, I know those feelings, too. I’m also a minister’s wife, and sometimes we can feel like a “man without a country” when it comes to releasing our own stress. #14 on Linda’s list earlier in the comments is not being rested. I decided last school year to change something in my life. Sunday is a very busy day- get up early, teach Sunday School, sometimes play piano at church, and then cook a big dinner. I used to go to school where I teach on Sunday afternoons to prepare some for the week and then head to church for the evening Bible study. I stopped going to school on Sunday afternoons. After dinner I go to the recliner and rest during the afternoon. I listen to Christian music, read this blog and just meditate and pray. Last winter I did not get sick as I had done the previous three winters. I really think I need the time to recoup and recharge. We all do.

  12. Cyndi,
I love this post, Philippians 4:6-8 are my life verses. Anxiety disorder is something that runs in our family and I return to these verses quite often.
I know you’re big into essential oils and I was wondering if you’ve found any to be helpful for anxiety/depression?

  13. Cyndi, I love this song! It has helped me many days. I have PTSD from my childhood/ early life events. My doctor told me that it is a lifelong thing to deal with and it gets worse with age. :/ Hhhmmm Well, God can do anything and He loves us! So of course, I rely on Him. But things such as this song are a comfort. The PTSD comes and goes. What triggers it is something that brings back unpleasant memories. My peace is in the Lord. And TRULY knowing that HE IS IN CONTROL and He works all for good according to His plan is the greatest comfort! Sometimes I get anxiety that I am certain is not the PTSD but is more related to the ole hormones. Sometimes, anxiety is a physical thing as opposed to spiritual or emotional. We ALL go through it because we are all human and it is Life. Some of us go through it on a tiny scale and some of us on a huge scale. The most important thing is to not let it consume us and get help when we need it and turn to the Lord for His help. I don’t know how people make it through life without the Lord. I sure am thankful I know HIM! Love ya lady and have a wonderful Sunday!

  14. Oh yes! Anxiety has been a long-time struggle for me, one that led me to being put on a seratonin-inhibitor a few years ago when things got really out of hand and my brain was just simply not functioning correctly anymore and my ragged emotions couldn’t balance it all. It was so freeing to finally say to myself, my faith or lack of it, is not the full picture – my body is simply not balancing things correctly and it’s throwing me off kilter. I’ve since gone off the meds but wouldn’t hesitate to go back on. In the meantime, I’ve learned so much about what causes, and prevents anxiety – in addition to the spiritual aspects of it. I’m learning that He does always carry us and that sometimes He even uses doctors and medicine to help us until we are stronger. His love is perfect and perfect love casts out fear!

  15. Cyndi,
Thank you for this post. As a pastor’s wife, I am the sounding board for the anxiety of many others, but sometimes I need an outlet for my own anxieties and doubts. Thanks for reminding me that our Father will be there to pick me up and carry me!

  16. Cyndi,

Thank you so much for this post. This happened to me just last night, and I was so frightened because I was caring for my little grandson. I had a panic attack and simply could not get hold of my emotions again. Only when my grandson woke and just wanted me to hold him did I remember what a beautiful gift he was from God, and how blessed I am. I am going through a very stressful struggle at my workplace, and I’m taking the verses listed in your post with me, as well as the comment that Nancy shared. These are going to help get me through the next week. Thank you so much. God Bless.

  17. Oh Cyndi and Linda….
Thanks for the video and for the post. YES….Our Father is GOOD and AMAZING. I got a call from my daughter Friday (who lives 1500 miles away from me) and she told me her husband “didn’t want to be married” anymore after 18 years of marriage and five children. Her heart is broken along with her Daddy and mine. I still know God has a wonderful future and plans for her, my son-in-law and these 5 precious kids. Thank you for “BEING a source” of God’s word and healing to me today. Joyce

  18. So, Cyndi, I’m checking out my FB page and just above your encouraging post is this from my friend, Nancy; God is so good to get my attention:

    THINGS THAT LEAD TO ANXIETY:

    1. Needing to be in control of others and situations
    2. Things being fair
    3. In ability to say “no”, to delegate, or draw boundaries
    4. Wanting things to be perfect
    5. Having unrealistic expectations of self
    6. Worrying about what people think
    7. Thinking that only you can do things right
    8. Feeling guilty easily
    9. Not allowing yourself to fail
    10. Not having someone to listen to you
    11. Feeling unappreciated
    12. Feeling like you are not accomplishing anything significant
    13. Having too much crammed into one day
    14. Not being rested

Where did I get this list? I can’t remember exactly. But, don’t you think this is a good list to reflect on and to take to prayer? I can relate to almost all of these.
