Oh my! Thank you all so much for the sweet birthday messages yesterday. You made turning 48 a little easier! 🙂 I had a wonderful day!
One of the dresses I’ve loved wearing this summer is my chambray dress but with fall right around the corner, I thought I would show you how to take a dress from summer to fall.
Summer is the perfect time for a sleeveless chambray dress. Paired with a cute sandal and you’re ready to go.
I usually get cold when I’m inside in the air condition so I always have a denim jacket handy. I get emails asking whether you can wear denim on denim and the answer is YES!

When September rolls around the temperatures are still warm, but I like to transition to a fall look. It’s easy to do by adding a scarf and a pair of ankle boots.

One of the trends for fall is definitely the ankle boot. Have you tried styling the ankle boot?
Beauty For the Heart~~Yesterday as I kept getting Happy Birthday wishes, I kept thinking of what my Mom always said, “my cup runneth over.” But I missed hearing my Mom’s voice yesterday. I wanted a call from my Mom. The pain of losing her will never go away but the memories I have with her are so so sweet.
In honor of Mom, I’ll share this poem that I’ve shared before:
I’ve never made a fortune
and it’s probably too late now.
But I don’t worry about that much,
I’m happy anyhow.
And as I go along life’s way,
I’m reaping better than I sowed.
I’m drinking from my saucer,
‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
I haven’t got a lot of riches,
and sometimes the going’s tough.
But I’ve got loved ones around me,
and that makes me rich enough.
I thank God for his blessings,
and the mercies He’s bestowed.
I’m drinking from my saucer,
’cause my cup has overflowed.
I remember times when things went wrong,
My faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke,
and the sun peeped through again.
So God, help me not to gripe about
the tough rows that I’ve hoed.
I’m drinking from my saucer,
‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
If God gives me strength and courage,
when the way grows steep and rough.
I’ll not ask for other blessings,
I’m already blessed enough.
And may I never be too busy,
to help others bear their loads.
Then I’ll keep drinking from my saucer,
‘Cause my cup has overflowed. -Author unknown
Have a blessed day!

Beautiful and exudes grace.
You’ve done it again ! Wonderful , beautiful fashion that is modest .
I got a pair of ankle boots last year in the Spring and look forward to them again this Autumn . I like to wear them with jeggins or leggings and a long top /short knee length dress all together .
Keep up the good work ! LOVE your blog .

The link to the similar ankle boot takes me to the dress instead. Love this look, I actually bought ankle boots on clearance that I haven’t gotten a chance to wear yet. I’m gonna go see what I can put together out of my closet 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration each day; my dad has been on chemotherapy for over a year for pancreatic cancer. He’s outlived all the doctors expectations so every new day is a precious gift from God.
Happy belated birthday ! August 5 is my birthday too! I turned 47! Hope your day was wonderful!
Happy Birthday. Love the idea of making the most out of your wardrobe. Love both looks, so cute with the leopard scarf, and then adding a jacket and boots.

Hopefully by next Summer my wardrobe will consists of a sleeveless chambray shirt-dress style of a dress. I love yours: style, wash; it is perfect. Great job taking it from Summer to Fall. Furthermore the Denim Jacket looks lovely over it. I love denim jackets over dresses and in my current post, that is how I am wearing it.
Have a great week Cindy!
Hi Cyndi.
Love the way you transitioned the dress. Love, love, love ankle boots! 🙂
My mom is sick with emphysema, but she is in denial. In 2013, she was diagnosed with COPD. This year, emphysema. I know her time is limited, and it will most likely turn into lung cancer. She has already told me she will refuse any treatment. I don’t agree, but it is her wish. She is a chain smoker, and she refuses to stop smoking. Most days, she smokes a minimum of 2-3 packs, and some days 4+. She’s lost several siblings to this disease, and they were between 70-73. My mom is 69. Please keep her in your prayers. I would greatly appreciate it.
I always love the kind words you write about your mom. I love the poem you shared. Beautiful, as are you.
Thanks for sharing.

Cyndi,
My mom has a terminal illness and her prognosis isn’t good. This post really caught my attention because this is one of my mom’s favorite quotes as well. I’m going through such a difficult time trying to be strong for my mom, but knowing that I will literally crumble once things turn. Life is so sweet, but also very difficult.
I have read your’s and your sister’s blog and marvel at what a wonderful mom you had and what great daughters your mom was blessed with. I strongly believe that your mom is looking down on you and sending her warmest birthday wishes. Reading both of your blogs has been enlightening to me.
I sometimes feel a little bitter that I’m losing my mom at such a young age, but then I feel guilty, because God has blessed me with the best mom in the world and for this, I’m eternally grateful. Sorry for rambling & thanks for sharing.
Love the scarf and jean jacket with the dress. I like the boots “on you” but I’m afraid being over 55 I would look like I’m trying to dress young so do you have another suggestion in place of the ankle boots? And..happy belated birthday!
I will be 53 in November and my mother still calls me first thing on the morning of my birthday and sings the entire Happy Birthday song to me. I can’t imagine what will happen the first year she won’t be here to do that! I’ll probably call a choir friend and beg them to carry on the tradition. Such sweet thoughts about your mother. Happy belated birthday!
Love the poem! A late Happy Birthday.
God Bless
Happy Belated Birthday precious girl!!! I too like the chambray dress and the added jacket and scarve…… You could wear a burlap bag and look lovely. God Bless you today….
Mary, I’ll be 60 this month, too, but I think we can still use many of Cyndi’s fashion tips, maybe just adapt a bit. I’m trying to embrace 60! 🙂
Cyndi, I would never have guessed you 48! Happy Birthday!
LOVE the poem, a be-lated Birthday wish is being sent your way and I love the dress with your jeans jacket! Blessing on you!
Happy belated birthday! I love the poem:)
I wish someone would do a blog for over 60. I love yours but some things are too young for me. Happy Birthday!
I love that poem! So simple and so beautiful.
I don’t know how I feel about ankle boots for myself, I never feel like they look right on me. Maybe I will have to try them again. Are you letting your hair grow out? It looks like it is getting a bit longer.
Love how your transformed the outfit for fall. I need to invest in a pair of ankle boots this fall. Thanks for sharing the poem as well.
Cyndi, did you know those words have been set to music as well?

Happy Belated Birthday!
Cyndi I am so thrilled to see you posting about transitioning summer pieces to fall. Love the chambray dress, scarf, and ankle boots. You have inspired me to start wearing scarfs!
You words were touching about missing your sweet Mom’s voice on your birthday. The poem helped me alot today. Thank for sharing.
Love this idea of taking summer pieces and transitioning them to fall. I think I might have to have this scarf. Happy belated Birthday!
