The Dog Days Of Summer Are Here

Today’s Tuesday so I wanted to remind  you to pray for Bennett. Someone on my Facebook page said, “Let’s storm heaven!” So today we’re storming heaven on behalf of Bennett! Thank you for your prayers!

Well, it’s finally gotten hot and humid in Kentucky. Which means I’ve pulled out the shorts and the flip flops.

I rarely wear flip flops except around the house but I recently went shopping and wore wedge heels, I shopped longer than expected and my feet started hurting. I grabbed these flip flops from Gap, they were $7.99 and I was desperate!! Have you ever had to do that?

Sometimes pictures don’t show the actual colors, I took this picture inside and it’s closest to the color of the shirt. I popped a yellow belt for fun. You don’t have to be matchy matchy all the time.

The Dog Days Of Summer Are Here

I love when you all send me pictures and share a little bit of your life with me. One of my readers, Sharon, sent me this picture of her sister, Mary. Sharon also sent me the bracelet I’m wearing in the above picture.

It’s a Stella & Dot Cady Wrap Bracelet and it’s gorgeous!! Thank you Sharon, I’ll be wearing it all the time! (The other bracelet I’m wearing is Stella & Dot Renegade Cluster Bracelet.)

Mary lives in Winchester, VA. She has two children ages, 4 and 11. She had surgery almost a year ago and has lost over 100 lbs! She’s now healthy, exercises daily and no longer has high blood pressure or diabetes! Way to go Mary, you look amazing!

Lori is one of my blog readers and she’s wearing a chambray shirt, which of course, I love. Lori, is a DIYer and is thinking about starting a blog of her own. Lori I think you should do it!!

Are you experiencing the dog days of summer?? Fall is right around the corner!

Beauty for the Heart~~Wayne and I are going to have a small group of couples meeting at our house on Sunday nights beginning in September. We’re going to be teaching through the book, Not A Fan. I’ve read it before but I’m looking forward to reading it again! We love sports so the analogy of Not a Fan appeals to us.

Here’s a quote from the book:

“It may seem that there are many followers of Jesus, but if they were honestly to define the relationship they have with him I am not sure it would be accurate to describe them as followers. It seems to me that there is a more suitable word to describe them. They are not followers of Jesus. They are fans of Jesus. Here is the most basic definition of fan in the dictionary: “An enthusiastic admirer” It’s the guy who goes to the football game with no shirt and a painted chest. He sits in the stands and cheers for his team. He’s got a signed jersey hanging on his wall at home and multiple bumper stickers on the back of his car. But he’s never in the game. He never breaks a sweat or takes a hard hit in the open field. He knows all about the players and can rattle off their latest stats, but he doesn’t know the players. He yells and cheers, but nothing is really required of him. There is no sacrifice he has to make. And the truth is, as excited as he seems, if the team he’s cheering for starts to let him down and has a few off seasons, his passion will wane pretty quickly. After several losing seasons you can expect him to jump off the fan wagon and begin cheering for some other team. He is an enthusiastic admirer.”

Are you a Fan or a Follower?

Have a blessed day!

  1. Cyndi,

Thanks so much for the support! I am feeling really great these days, better than I have in years. If anyone had told me last year when I started this that I would be able to go out and run 3 or 4 miles for fun, I certainly wouldn’t have believed it!

Sharon has been a constant support and a great cheerleader for me. She came to watch my kids when I had the surgery, sent countless cards and words of encouragement, and has been my stylist. I really didn’t care much about clothes for years. Most likely because at 250 lbs, I wasn’t feeling good no matter what I wore. After losing all this weight I was pretty clueless how to dress this new body. Sharon flew in and did her own version of What Not To Wear. Out with the old and in with the new! She gave her time, energy, and funds to help me enjoy the fruits of all this labor. I love to shop now! I love my big sister!

Thank you so much for your blog. I will be checking in to see what to wear! You look adorable!

    Mary

  2. Cyndi,
Kyle Idleman is my pastor here in a Louisville! You will love the study!
You are doing great with the blog, despite a few not so nice comments recently. You always look so nice and put together.

  3. Oh, how I wish I could wear flip flops! Am I the only one in the world who cannot wear any type of sandal with the thing-a-ma-bob (technical term 🙂 ) between the toes? It drives me crazy and actually makes my feet cramp! I used to wear them when I was younger but now I can’t. Oh well, there are worse things…

I loved the quote from the book, Cyndi. Unfortunately, there have been seasons I have only fit in the fan category. With God’s help, I hope to remain a faithful follower. That is definitely a book I will have to read! Thanks for sharing!

  4. I don’t usually get around to reading my favorite blogs til almost bedtime and tonight I had such a surprise when I saw your picture and comment about the bracelet Sharon – my best friend of 46 years – sent you (she is the most thoughtful person in the world). And then I scrolled down to see the picture of her sweet sister Mary! Isn’t Mary’s weight loss accomplishment amazing? Thank you for featuring her here, Cyndi, and for sharing the beautiful bracelet Sharon sent you with the rest of us. I consider myself blessed every single day because Sharon has been there to walk through life with me.

  5. Thank you for praying for Bennett. I love when I wake up and he immediately puts someone on my mind.
I usually think, This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it, before I ever get out of bed. Starts my day the right way!!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  6. Thanks Renee!!
I do gel nails. I like short nails and these make my short nails look neat. I don’t let them use any drills on my nails. A file only.
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  7. I don’t even try to shop in heels anymore, my feet just can’t do it! I would rather wear flats or flip flops and be able to accomplish what I set out to do than to have my feet hurting so I can hardly walk! When I was younger I could get away with it more than now but even then I didn’t like to shop in heels. I love the quote from the book, I think I want to read it too.

  8. Praying for Bennett. One of my BFF’s girlfriends from back home lost her god daughter last night to cancer. She was a month away from her bone marrow transplant.
What a wonderful study. I cannot wait to get back to my group next week!!

  9. One winter I was shopping out of town and my boots were killing me. I bought slippers that looked like flats!! I am sure I wasn’t as glamorous as I was in the boots but I had to do something. My bunion was killing me!!! On another note, thanks for the link to Get Your Pretty On. I signed up for her Work Wear Challenge and enjoying it. Although I think your fashion is more age appropriate for me!!!

  10. I prayed for little Bennett yesterday and the Lord brought her to my mind this AM even before I got out of bed. God is good to do things like that! I pray she is resting comfortably by now. Love the exert from the book and may need to read it for myself. As always, you are dressed very classy! I live in flip flops all the time when I’m home and often to run errands….they make some very pretty classy and ones these days!

  11. When I started reading Not A Fan, I wasn’t a fan of the book…it seemed at first to put me on the defensive — BUT — he addresses that as I continued on and I really am a huge fan of the book! Good for you! I have used material from it to plug into other lessons for the adult class I teach. A study of it as a small group is a great idea! God bless you as you gather to grow!!

  12. Not a Fan sounds great, will look into it. I often wonder how to address friends, very close friends who define themselves as Christian, but do not have a personal relationship with Jesus. I must say, I love Lori’s outfit.

  13. What a cute outfit and a good demonstration of how to look sharp while keeping cool. I like the unexpected pop of yellow in the belt. FYI I keep “emergency” flip flops in my car, but I would not rule out buying some to save my feet.
We have had an unusually warm and humid summer here in So Cal (we don’t usually get much humidity at all) so I could use some tips on keeping makeup from melting and hair from frizzing!
Our men’s group just did that study and really got a lot out of it.
    Have a blessed day.

  14. Wow, Cyndi, that quote cuts to the chase. Wish I were there to be a part of the study. I always enjoyed your Discipleship classes. Have a great day! BTW I love the top!
