Fall Trend Report For Women Over 40

It’s so much fun to look at fall fashion trends! I’ve said this before, but as women over 40, we don’t have need to wear every trend out there.

Some trends are great for us, but some need to be left to the 20 somethings. Here’s a fall trend report that is perfect for women over 40.

Awww, plaid, you’ll be seeing this trend everywhere this fall. From flats to shirts to scarves. Everyone should be able to add some plaid to their fall wardrobe.

I purchased this plaid shirt last year from Marshall’s. I know some of you don’t like mixing patterns but I popped a little leopard print in my belt.

I also untucked it for a couple of pictures. (The shirt lays better untucked.)

I’m going to add some more plaid to my fall wardrobe. I’ll share it with you in October.

Beauty For the Heart~~I Choose Joy…
I will invite my God to be the God of circumstance. I will refuse the temptation to be cynical. I will refuse to see people as anything less than human beings, created by God. I will refuse to see any problem as anything less than an opportunity to see God. -Max Lucado

  1. I love your site. You have such great style in how you put your outfits together. Love the cuffed skinny jeans….Work really well with booties.

  2. I don’t have any plaid yet and want to get some! Problem is it’s still high 80’s/low 90’s where I live in SW FL! I recently got that leopard belt but haven’t worn it yet. Also got some cute leopard flats that’s I’ve not worn yet; still in sandals every day here!! Always like your outfit ideas. Thanks!

  3. You look so pretty Cyndi. Thank you so much for your great fashion advise, and for your Beauty for the Heart section each day! I appreciate you!!!

  4. I liked the shirt untucked. it is a really nice style and am wondering if it came in solids as well.
the Max Lucado quote is so appropriate. thank you

is the Fall color going to be great in KY this year? How does KY’s Fall color compare with other states in the area? we go to nearby mountains for some color and it is still nothing like back east.

  5. Cindi, I am 5’7″ and have a hard time finding jeans long enough to roll. I think i might be able to do it with the booties though so thanks for the suggestion. I have a question about rolling, is there a rule of thumb as to where the bottom of the rolled jean should hit? Above the ankle, etc.? Thanks!

  6. Love the plaid on you but for me I am not a fan. But do love the leopard belt which I have from Talbots and look forward to wearing more this year than last year when I purchased it. Love all your ideas though. Let’s us pick and choose what is good for us. All looks good on you though. ☺

  7. Very cute outfit….definitely wear the shirt tucked, it polishes the whole outfit. I love the boots and tried them on at Old Navy but they’re too uncomfortable for me but I’ll definitely be adding another pair of booties to my wardrobe when I find just the right style and fit for me!

Max Lucado’s thought is awesome. I’m going to print it off so I can read it often!

  8. I really enjoy getting new ideas from your outfit of the day posts! You always look fabulous! Everything you wear is pretty much my style and very practical for every day:). I am anxious to try the front-tuck. Thanks for all the great style tips!!

  9. I am adding plaid to my fall wardrobe with skirts…one is a handmade, just below the knee, circle skirt, and one is a longer tea-length red plaid for holiday and winter season wear. Love them both…also thinking of a plaid scarf in blackwatch color. You look great in your plaid shirt, and while I like the leopard print belt, the shirt does look better untucked and loose. You are always adorable! 🙂

  10. I love plaid and it brings back such wonderful memories as my mother fully embraced it as it was natural with her Scottish background. I am chomping at the bit for Fall temps to wear my black watch plaid blazer I got over the summer for a great price! I may come back from my Ireland trip with something else plaid, who knows?

Cyndi, I love the leopard belt here and it’s important to note that this is a very strong trend and a great, easy way for those of us over 40 to look current.

  11. I’m wearing plaid today and just ordered a flannel shirt from L.L. Bean, which I’m looking forward to wearing with jeans and boots! Love fall fashion!

  12. I am one of your 60 something fans. I love your site. It gives me a starting point to see what is appropriate and on trend. I also appreciate your focus on modesty and Beauty For the Heart encouragement. Looking forward to your next post.

  13. There is a certain skill to matching prints and pull them off – and you definitely have it! I like the way the belt and shirt compliment each other. Also, I am remembering I bought some ankle boots in a light color at the end of last winter, and it is time to get those out! Love your blog!

  14. Love the plaid shirt with the jeans. The color looks great on you! I prefer the tucked look. You can do that with your slim figure. Wish I could. And I reallly like the belt! I’ve been looking at leopard belts too, just haven’t spent the money. Still not loving the cuffed pants with boots. Cuffs with flats, ok, but not boots. But that’s my preference. You look wonderful!

      1. I have that Target leopard belt and LOVE it! Leopard has become my new “neutral”–flats or the belt or in the cooler weather a scarf. And it’s such a fun, easy pattern to mix. I like your shirt tucked in. I tried the front-tuck during Alison’s Spring Challenge this year–wasn’t sure I could pull off tucking in a shirt, but the front tuck is just enough and adds just a little something to a simple outfit. Can’t wait for cooler weather here to jump into some plaid!
