Sunday Encouragement-Choose Today

Many of you know I lost my Mom to gastric cancer in 2009. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of her. I have this blog because Mom introduced me to blogging.

This time of the year I especially think of her and all the things we would be planning. We’d be talking about Thanksgiving, and what we wanted to fix this year.

We’d be going to some Christmas open houses at some of our favorite stores. She’d be telling me all the things she’d like us to do before Christmas gets here. Mom made the holidays special.

One thing for sure, all of our activities and family get togethers would be centered around Christ. Mom was passionate about her relationship with Christ and if you were around her for very long, you would know that.

This is a snapshot of Mom’s devotional book. (Mom was a writer at heart and we have hundreds of books that Mom has written in. She also wrote for Home Life Magazine and in our local newspaper.)

Sunday Encouragement-Choose Today

I love that she wrote out, “I’m taking a definite stand.” It makes me smile because she didn’t have to write that for me to know she was taking a stand for the Lord. Her life showed it.

Oh how I love and miss her!! But how blessed I am to have the assurance that she is with Jesus.

I guess it’s appropriate to ask whom do you serve? As we prepare for the all the festivities over the next two months will it be evident to those around you, whom you serve?

Sunday Encouragement-Choose Today

I know it’s early for Christmas music but I can’t help but think of this song. Maybe you’ve lost someone this year and you’re wondering what Christmas in Heaven is like.

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Thanks so much for sharing this, Cyndi! I lost my mom a year ago, and then her mom passed just 6 weeks ago. Each day I think of something I would like to call and tell them! Your blog has been such an encouragement, and I love that you use Sunday’s especially to focus on Christ.

As for me and my house we will serve the Lord!
    Blessings to you!

  2. Hi Cyndi~ What a beautiful post today. I lost my dad 2 1/2 years ago but still have my mom. However, my mom lost her mom when she was in her 20’s so I never met her. my Mom still misses her mom and speaks of her frequently. She burned to death…her sleeve caught on fire from the gas stove in the kitchen while he was cooking. Thankfully she and my dad both knew the Lord so it does give so much peace. Your moms writings in her devotional book are just beautiful So precious to have !! God bless you and thank you for always doing such a great job on your blog 🙂

  3. God bless you, Cyndi. Your posts most always bring a smile to my face and today, a tear to my eye. I am blessed to have both of my parents and we are all so very close. They are my dearest friends… My heart goes out to you and others who have lost so many and so much, but you are so right when you remind us that they live on in Heaven, our goal and eternal home, and we will all be together again some day. As I read thru the posts and comments others have shared, I am thankful that we can encourage one another in Christ and hold each other up in prayer. My prayer for you all today is that you will find His grace to be sufficient and His love and mercy overflowing in abundance, for whatever need you may have in your life. May God richly bless you all. Thankful for Christian sisters.

  4. I love the notes your mom made in her devotional – what a treasure and legacy for you. Would you share the name of her devotional – I love your mom’s godly example…thank you for sharing this post because now she has blessed me too.

    1. Hi Jenny,
Mom’s devotional book was a leather bound Oswald Chambers, My Upmost for His Highest devotional. It’s full of his writing and Mom’s journaling.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  5. Thank you so much for sharing your heart. I lost my mom when I was 16. She was 47. The holidays (not to mention life in general) gets harder for me the closer I get to her age. I needed this reminder today of whom I serve! He has not given us the spirit of fear!

    1. Yes Jennifer that’s right, he doesn’t want us to fear. I’m so sorry you lost your Mom at such a young age. We always need our Moms. I’ve clung to these words my Mom said when she knew she was dying, “I don’t always understand God, but I trust Him.”
      Trusting Him today,
      Cyndi

  6. I love this post. I lost my mom 25 years ago to breast cancer. My mom took a stand for Jesus and everyone (no matter who they were) knew it. She would tell her doctor that her faith was in God and not in man. Although she did eventually die, it doesn’t mean that she didn’t have enough faith. The ultimate healing (and the ultimate goal of being a Christian) is to go to Heaven. I have no doubt in my mind that your mom and my mom are having a great time together.
I also have no doubt in my mind that Jesus brought me to your blog over a year ago when I googled “the do’s and don’ts of how to wear white pants”. You have been a blessing to me.
And yes, I will take a stand for Jesus!

    1. Oh Amanda thank you for sharing this. I’m so glad my blog has been a blessings.
You’re right about your Mom’s faith. She may not have been healed here but her healing came in heaven. That’s the best kind!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  7. Grief strikes a chord with all of us and brings us all together when we have experienced it, doesn’t it? Lost my mom in 2007 and I miss her every day. For those of you for whom the grief is fresh, take heart. Time heals, and our loved ones live on in heaven and in us.

    1. Yes Julie time does heal and I think that’s straight from God. He knows time heals and we couldn’t survive without that.
Thanks so much for stopping by and praying you have a wonderful holiday season.
      Cyndi

    1. She was young Mary and I wasn’t ready to let her go but God had different plans. I know she’s right where she wants to be!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  8. This post was very meaningful for me today too. I lost my dad to a stroke in 2006. It was devastating. We were so close and he was a special man….truly the nicest person I’ve ever known. I am an only child and he and my mom were wonderful parents and grandparents. Today Dad would be 85 years old. I know his birthday in Heaven will be glorious. I miss him and my mom (who passed in 2010) every day. I find great comfort that they are together in Heaven.

    1. Oh Liz I’m so thankful your parents are celebrating in heaven today. Praying you have a special day of remembering what a wonderful earthly father you had.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  9. Cyndi,
I have been following you on Pinterest and just recently signed up for your blog. It has been a blessing, but especially today learning of the loss of your mom to gastric cancer. I lost my dad to gastric cancer this July. This morning’s blog especially spoke to my heart. Thank you and thank you for what you are doing for the Kingdom.
    Anna

    1. Oh Anna, I’m so sorry. I know this will be a difficult Thanksgiving and Christmas. The “firsts” are the hardest. Time does heal, thankfully. The first year was so hard for me but each year has gotten easier. I still miss her!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi
