Casual Fashion For Women Over 40

Today I’m sharing some casual fashion for women over 40. My casual fashion consists of a plaid shirt and booties which I seem to have a thing for these days.

I’ve worn this Old Navy shirt with a red vest but decided to wear it alone today.

I love to add  bracelets to my outfit. The gold one is from Stella & Dot and I wear it all the time.

I’ve talked about my trench coat before but it’s a staple piece for me. I love to wear it this time of the year when the weather is chilly. A trench coat adds a little class to a basic outfit.

Please tell me I’m not alone in my love for plaid shirts and booties??

Beauty For the Heart~~I’m typing this post from a hospital room. My father-in-law has pneumonia and my husband and I are sitting with him. He’s 88 years old and at that age, pneumonia can be a little dangerous.

Hopefully he’ll get to go home soon. Hospitals are no fun!

As I sit here and listen to all that’s going on outside his room, I hear a lot of different conversations. Some are sweet, some are laced with obscenities, some are from people who are sick and need help.

It reminds me how each of us are different…..our backgrounds, our lifestyles, even our genetics.

But God in his perfect plan, created each of us. He loves us and he wants us to know Him. It’s a beautiful thing!

“The God who made the world and everything in it, this Master of sky and land, doesn’t live in custom-made shrines or need the human race to run errands for him, as if he couldn’t take care of himself. He makes the creatures; the creatures don’t make him. Starting from scratch, he made the entire human race and made the earth hospitable, with plenty of time and space for living so we could seek after God, and not just grope around in the dark but actually find him. He doesn’t play hide-and-seek with us. He’s not remote; he’s near. We live and move in him, can’t get away from him! Acts 17:24-28 (MSG)

Have a blessed day!

  1. Enjoy your site and lovely message. I am a young at heart women 62 yr old and enjoy your dress style and reaching out with a godly message to women. Such a great need. God bless, hope your father-in-law recovers quickly. Have a beautiful Christmas

  2. Hi Cyndi!
Saying prayers for your father in law tonight ! (Hugs))))

I really love your blog. You look so good in your jeans. I have always wondered…. I am more hippy….do skinny jeans really flatter someone like me?I love seeing all the pics of the booties with skinny jeans but i am a size 12 with hips…. Not sure I can pull off that look.. Would love your input Cyndi. Thank you!

  3. I will be praying for your father in law and your family. Always look forward to your blog-love the plaid, passing on the bootie trend.

  4. Hi Cyndi~
I too have been in the hospital all day…with my 13 year old daughter. We finally got home at 8pm. Im sorry about your father in law. Im praying for your family. God bless 😉

  5. Sweet Cyndi,
This has been a hard year for so many of my friends and family. I know you all have had more than your share of tragedy and loss in your family. Praying that your father-in-law is on the road to recovery in time to enjoy the holidays. May 2015 be a kinder, gentler year.

  6. A blogging friend recommended you to me. Up until this point I had a primarily fashion focused blog but am shifting to a faith and beauty focus, my tag is actually similar to yours “Finding beauty on the inside and out.” I’m excited to see you have faith and fashion co-exist here! Cute outfit and I hope your father-in-law feels better soon. Sickness is always hard, it pneumonia is scary for sure.

  7. Hi Cyndi,
Always love your posts, and you always look amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us. So sorry to hear your father-in-law is in the hospital. I will keep him in my prayers.

  8. Love your boots! Recently down in Thousand Oaks, CA visiting our son and purchased 2 pairs of boots, but just might need these Carlos Santana Harvest pair too! I always look forward to all you share, Cyndi…fashion, family stories, scripture, encouragement, etc. You are extra special! Thank you!

  9. Praying for your family Cyndi. My mom has had pneumonia three times in her life, and the last time nearly killed her. She is a chain smoker, smoking over 3 packs a day. I pray he has a speedy recovery. 🙂

Love your plaid shirt! That shade of blue looks great on you. (I didn’t get to comment yesterday, but I am also a winter. I have dark brown hair and grey eyes.)

  10. Thoughts an prayers sent your way. New to your blog. Love the emails! Question, I noticed in the first pic your blouse is tucked in the front an out on the back, also no belt, is this the style now? I’m old school sooooo confusing!

    1. Thanks so much for visiting my blog! Nice to meet you.
It is “in style” to tuck in the front and leave the back out. As far as the belt, that’s more of a preference. I sometimes wear one and sometimes don’t.:-)
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  11. Thoughts and prayers are with your family. It is so hard to watch a loved one be sick. Hospitals are a difficult place to be in, so much going on.

  12. You are not alone in your obsession of plaid and booties:) Love the blue color in that shirt! I pray that your father-in-law recovers, it seems as if every time I see my parents they age a little more and its hard to imagine life without them. Have a good day!

  13. I have that plaid shirt too and love it! In fact, I’m a bit plaid obsessed this fall….with 3 plaid button downs (all from Old Navy) and some scarves as well as a plaid jacket from Target! yikes!

    You look classy as always!

  14. I have been looking for a trenchcoat like that. Will check out the Marshall website. Our Marshall’s is not that good in Savannah. I love the light color.

  15. Hang in there because it’s difficult to watch our loved ones decline. My Mom is 87 and each day is a blessing and I know her health can change quickly at this age. Keep your fashion tips coming they are the highlight to my e-mails

  16. Said a little prayer for you all just now. It is a blessing to care for our parents and support them in love. But it is a tender place in our hearts, especially for you as you have walked through the letting go of a dear parent. I understand…me too…it changes us, but makes us softer and more compassionate, I think,,,more aware of how precious each day together truly is. Bless your family <3

  17. May I suggest that when your father-in-law gets discharge, request home health to follow through with his transition to home. Yes, he is at a fragile age and pneumonia can be very difficult to overcome at any age. It would be to his benefit to have a nurse come in to check on him periodically. It would also give you some peace of mind. Have a wonderful day!
